San Sebastian Cavite leaned on the heroics of their "Big 3" of 5'7" guard Jo Gracilla, 5'11" swingman Jun Villareal and 6'1" forward Boy Lucernas to edge defending champion STI College 84-78. From a 78-all tie in the last minute and a half the Bay Cats nailed a short stab and four pressure freethrows for the final count.

San Sebastian Cavite forced a winner-take-all Game 3 in the NAASCU Season 8 Finals against defending champion STI 95-75 in Game 2 at the Makati Coliseum.

Jay Lucernas and Jack Alcasabas were on the firing end in a huge third quarter run that turned a 51-42 halftime edge into a 55-44 double-digit bubble that was never threatened.

Lucernas finished with a game-high 24 points while Alcasabas added 21 markers.

The Bay Cats of Fr Emil Jaruda will go for their first ever NAASCU men's senior division basketball title on Saturday 4 October at 2:00 PM again at the Makati.

Re: Baste Cavite Baycats in Season 8

Letran hardly broke a sweat disposing of an off-form San Sebastian Cavite in the ongoing Fil Oil Flying V Sweet 16 tournament at the Arena.

Stamping their class early on against the Bay Cats of head coach Edgar Macaraya, head coach Louie Alas' Knights went to town right away on transition and from the perimeter right from the opening period. PBL veteran and team captain RJ Jazul started everything off with his dead-eye perimeter shooting and masterful ball distribution. Two more PBL veterans - forwards Dino Daa and Rey Guevarra - joined in with timely hits in the lane.

San Sebastian Cavite however was not about to just roll over as 5-foot-11 swingman Jeff Acain and 6-foot swingman Rey "Kobe" Alcasabas responded with slashes into the gut of the Letran defense mixed in with some timely hits from long range to stay within 13-18 after the first period.

Letran however soon went to its superior size inside as well as to its notorious roughhousing tactics to errect their first double-digit lead 36-25. Regin Raneses, Jam Cortes and Alvin Cabonce pounded the smaller San Sebastian Cavite frontline in the lane and at the low blocks. Guards Rey Dangcal, Kojak Melegrito, Kirk Del Rosario and Rey Gutilban also started roughing up 5-foot-9 guard Jun Gracilla and 6-foot-1 forward Lito Escobal on the defensive end to stymie the game of the Bay Cats.

Letran practically put on a clinic in the third period going up by as much as 22 points at 61-49 behind the continued sniping of Jazul and Guevarra, the slashing of Melegrito and Gutilban and the power moves in the lane of Cabonce, Cortes and Daa. San Sebastian Cavite had no solution for the bigger and far more aggressive Knights. It didn't help that key Bay Cats were way off their game, including 6-foot-2 PBL newbie forward Kris Lucernas, the reigning NAASCU most valuable player, and 6-foot-1 forward Mark Basa.

In the payoff fourth period the Bay CAts finally came alive and came within 61-70 behind the transition attacks of Gracilla, Alcasabas and Acain. Lucernas and Lyle Antipuesto also got some opportunistic baskets themselves and the Knights looked visibly rattled. Bucking the fouling out of Jazul midway through the last period, the Knights settled down behind the heads-up guard play of Gutilban even as Melegrito and Daa responded on the offensive end to once again pull away all the way to the final buzzer.

Melegrito led all scorers with 16 points while Daa added 15 markers.

Gracilla had 14 points for the Bay Cats.
