MANILA – There seems to be a problem promoting content on social network site Facebook.
Social media managers have noted that, when they promote stories from their blogs or websites on Facebook, Facebook doesn’t show the correct thumbnail unless the page administrators debug the link.
Looking at the Facebook developer page, it looks like the problem has been around since April 30.
On May 8, a certain Tushar Arora from the Facebook team said rescraping the link should fix the issue. She also advised the developers to specify the width and height of the image in the code so that the image can be used on the first share created.
However, developers continued to experience problems even with the proposed solution of the Facebook team.
As of Saturday, some developers noted that adding the image width and height to the codes does solve the issue. But they also noted that there are inconsistencies between what happens when sharing by clicking the share button and sharing by pasting a link on the timeline.
Some also noted that including the image dimensions in the code doesn’t help when you are sharing from your apps.
A developer also mentioned that even when you include the codes, only a small image size appears, prompting him to share the post manually.
Facebook has yet to issue a statement on the problem.
