Altas, Generals bring on-court battle to parking lot

By Norman Lee Benjamin Riego on Sep 22, 2015 07:59 PM

Exactly one year after the infamous on-court brawl in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Emilio Aguinaldo College again figured in another scuffle at the San Juan Arena.

Only on Tuesday, the heat spilled over to the parking lot as some Generals and players from University of Perpetual Help got involved with each other. Eyewitnesses named EAC’s Raymund Pascua and Sidney Onwubere and Perpetual’s Niko Cabiltes as the protagonists.

All three were said to have thrown punches before venue security and other teammates separated them. The NCAA is still investigating the incident and is yet to release a statement.

According to Alta GJ Ylagan, everything began when Pascua and Onwubere walked past them while yelling sweet nothings. Cabiltes returned the favor and the Generals rushed towards him and caused him to fall down with a few strikes.

Ylagan then said that he and teammates Nestor Bantayan, Ric Gallardo, and Flash Sadiwa stopped the fight from escalating. It was at that point that security arrived and separated the protagonists.

Earlier, Cabiltes and Pascua were involved in a flare-up right when the Perpetual-EAC matchup was ending. The two along with General Max Diego were all ejected from the game.

For his part, Pascua pointed at the Altas as the instigators. “Palabas pa lang ng arena, sa may pinto, nakita na namin silang inaabangan kami. Pero hindi na namin pinansin,” he said.

Once they neared the parking lot, Pascua then said it was the Perpetual players who started shouting sweet nothings. “We didn’t start it. We just defended ourselves.”

Last season, the benches of EAC and Mapua Institute of Technology both cleared after General John Tayongtong punched Cardinal CJ Isit during their game.
