UNIVERSITY of Manila added another feather to its cap by winning the 2009 National Athletic Associaiton of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) junior basketball tournament via a rare sweep at the Pasay City Sports Complex.

Led by Mark Vincent Garcia and Sherwin Castro and handled by coach Bang Tumapat and manager Atty. Ernesto de los Santos, the Hawklets demolished AMA Computer University, 92-64, to clinch the crown and regain lost glory in the nine-year-old league.

“We’re very happy to win the title again for UM,” sai dTumapat, who attributed the success to the all-out support of the UM management, led by Atty. de los Santos.

It was the first title in three years for UM, which dominated the league with five straight titles from 2002-2006 under coach Eugene Tan.

Garcia, a 5-9 recruit from Floridablanca, Pampanga, fired a game-high 34 point for the Hawklets, who swept the 12-team, double-round tournament.
