    Delostrinos was a member of UM Hawks last two champion team. last year nya na ngayon season.
    while Sadsad was a member of UM Hawkletts that once also dominated the junior division of NAASCU.

    SSC-C, UM, AMACU in easy win

    DEFENDING champion San Sebastian College-Cavite trounced University of Makati, 96-69, to join STI Colleges and Informatics International College for the lead in the 9th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) basketball tournament at the Pasay Sports Complex.

    Led by rookie guard Lloyd Pono and handled by coach Edgar Macaraya, the Baycats established several double-digit leads on the way to another easy victory over the Hardy Herons.

    Pono, who was elevated from the junior team, finished with 15 points for the Cavite City-based Baycats. Lito Escobal added 12 points and Jeremiah Callado contributed 11.

    JR Moresco carried the fight for the Hardy Herons with a game-high 29 points.

    In the other games, five-time champion University of Manila overwhelmed New Era University, 90-72, and AMA Computer University routed Our Lady of Fatima University, 82-55, to barge into the win column.

    Senior forward Ryeon Delos Trinos scattered 29 points for the Hawks who bounced back from a heartbreaking 79-81 loss Centro Escolar University during opening day.

    John Matubang and Jay-Ar Manuel contributed 18 points apiece for the Hawks, who are now being mentored by Jojo Castillo and comebacking Rex Manansala.

    Mark Jhacer Lopez paced the Hunters with 24 points.

    The Titans of coach Gino Manansala got 61 points from Roi Vincent Nicholas, Marvin Cabico, Dennis Maravilla and Sander Salvador to beat Fatima.

    The Phoenix, who debuted with a 78-77 win over New Era in nthe opener, were led by Paolo Guidaben with 14 points.

    NAASCU: Hawks down Saints, Scorpions nip Eagles

    FIVE-time champion University of Manila outsteadied St..Clare College of Caloocan, 84-74, while Centro Escolar University nipped Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, 96-93, for their second wins in the 9th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) basketball tournament at the CEU gym in Mendiola, Manila.

    The Hawks, who are being handled by Jojo Castillo and consultant Rex Manansala, drew superb games from John Matubang, Alvin Vienes and Ryeon Delos Trinos to beat the Saints and register their second straight win after suffering a heart-breaking loss to CEU on opening day..

    Matubang finished with 19 points, Viernes added 17 points and DelosTrinos contributed 11 points for the Sampaloc-based Hawks of team manager Atty. Ernesto Delos Santos.


    Last year’s “Rookie of the Year” awardee Aries Parinas carried the fight for the Saints with a game-high 32 points.

    The Scorpions relied on the 36-point production of Mark Jovel Banas and to improve to 2-1.

    Jeric Magno and Gene Zapanta contributed 17 and 13 points, respectively.

    Patrick Cassulla paced the Eagles with 27 points, followed by Jimmy Dale Delgado with 18 points.

    In the other game, last year’s third placer Lyceum of Subic Bay defeated newcomer Our Lady of Fatima University, 97-80, to barge into win column after two losses.

    Billy Ray Labadan, Rolliver Valencia, Jommel Bilog, Vergel Baydo and Richard Velasco scored in double figures for the Sharks of coach Kerwin McCoy.

    Labadan finished with 15 points, Valencia addded 13, Bilog had 12 and Baydo and Velaco added 11 each.

    The Phoenix, who toppled New Era University in the opener ,was led by Ralph Monserat with 29 points and Randy Basco with 20.

    FIBA commissioner Boy Cahanding is the tournament commissioner while Benjie Diswe is the tournament director.

    Hawks in third straight win

    FIVE-time champion University of Manila showed too much class in beating University of Makati, 112-70, for its third straight win in the 2009 NAASCU mens basketball tournament at the UM gym in Manila.

    Edwin Tamayo, John Matubang, Francis Jacob, Reyner Sadsad and Ryeon de los Trinos scored almost at will as the Hawks of coach Jojo Castillo and manager Atty. Ernesto de los Santos led from start to finish.

    Tamayo finished with 18 points, while Matubang and Jacob added 12 points apiece for the Hawks, who dropped their opening-day assignment.


    Reyner Sadsad and Ryeon Delos Trinos contributed 11 and 10 points for UM.

    Erwin Graza paced the Hardy Herons with 21 points, followed by Santos Moresco and John Gonzaga with 15 points apiece.

    Newcomer Our Lady of Fatima University edged Centro Escolar University, 72-70, for a 2-2 win-loss record.

    Paolo Guidaben fired 17 points for the Rensy Bajar-mentored Phoenix.

    Ralph Monserat and Robin Zapanta added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

    Jeric Magno paced the Scorpions with 13 markers.

    NAASCU: Informatics outplays PLP, 78-67, for fifth win, UM in fourth straight win

    INFORMATICS International College continued its winning way by beating Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, 78-67, even as defending cahmpion San Sebastian College-Cavite won by forfeiture over Our Lady of Fatima Univerity in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) basketball tournament at the SSC-Cavite gym in Cavite City.

    Leonard Azotea, Juan Antonio Asinas and Mark Montuano scored in double figures for the Icons of coach Jonathan Reyes.

    Azotea finished with 13 points, Asinas added 12 and Montuano contributed 10 for the Icons, who kept a share of the lead with SSC-Cavite with five straight wins.

    Jimmy Delgado finished with 16 points for the Eagles, who dropped to 1-4.

    Five-time champion University of Manila rode on the hot hands of John Matubang to subdue STI College, 73-62.

    The Hawks, who are now being handled by coach Jojo Castillo and consultant Rex Manansala, got 24 point from Matubang to beat the Olympians and improve to 4-1.

    Ryeon Delos Trinos and Alvin Viernes contributed 15 and 11 points respectively for the Sampaloc-based team.


    In other games, AMA Computer University nipped St. Clare Colllege-Caloocan, 70-66, and Centro Escolar University humbled University of Makati, 83-66.

    Earlier, SSC-Cavite was declared winner by forfeiture when Fatima brought the wrong set of uniform.

    The game was later played for the sake of the students with SSC-Cavite winning the match just the same.

    In the lone junior division, SSC-Cavite defeated CEU, 52-48.

    UM prevail

    Five time champion University of Manila relied on the game long brillance of rookie guard John Matubang to a 94-87, double overtime win over AMA Computer University in the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) men’s basketball tournament at the New Era Gym.

    Matubang a 6-foot-3 guard-forward sank the first of two free throws off a foul from Sander Salvador in the final 2.5 seconds of the fourth quarter to forge overtime, 71-all, after an exhausting game-long catch-up job by the Hawks.

    Then he added six of his game-high 25 points in the next two overtime periods to help the Hawks snatch their fifth victory in six games. The Titans dropped to 3-4.

    The victory kept UM in second place behind Informatics, which notched a seventh straight triumph at the expense of Centro Escolar, 69-67.


    The Scorpions absorbed their third loss in six games.

    Six-foot shooter Mario Leonida topscored for the Icons with 15 points most of them in the fourth quarter where they mounted a huge rally to overcome a 46-57 third-quarter deficit and ensure the win.

    Lyceum of Subic Bay leaned on 6-foot-4 shooting guard Jessie James Collado to down STI, 82-78, while Our Lady of Fatima University (3-3) claimed its third win by routing winless University of Makati (0-7), 65-53.

    Collado fired 25 points for the Sharks, who improved to 3-2.

    NAASCU: SSC-Cavite in 8th straight win, UM post 7th win in a row

    SUBIC -- Defending champion San Sebastian College-Cavite hurdled another obstacle in its title-retention campaign, beating Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, 89-54, in the 9th National Athletic Association of Schools, College and Universities (NAASCU) men's basketball tournament at the SBMA Sports Complex here.

    Jhun Gracilla, Jeoffrey Acain and Bryan Filio combined for 38 points for the Baycats, who were never seriously threatened in posting their eighth straight win for the solo lead in this 12-team tournament.

    Gracilla topscored with 15 points, Acain contributed 13 and Filio added 10 for the Cavite City-based Baycats of coach Edgar Macaraya.

    John Gerald Cemetera topscored with 12 points for the Eagles, followed by Jimmy Delgado with 11 points.

    Equally impressive was University of Manila, which outplayed newcomer Our Lady of Fatima University, 68-63, for its seven straight win after an opening-day loss.

    The Hawks relied on John Matubang, Alvin Viernes and Reyner Sadsad in the closing minutes to frustrate the Phoenix.

    Ralph Monserat finished with 14 points for Fatima, which fell to 3-5.

    In other games, STI College toppled Informatics, 79-45, AMA Computer University trounced University of Makati, 85-71, New Era University stunned Centro Escolar Univerity, 98-78 and Lyceum of Subic Bay outsteadied St. Clare College-Caloocan, 73-63.

    Norman Ihalas scattered 15 points and three other players also scored in double figures for the Vic Ycasiano=mentored STI, which handed Informatics its first setback.
