    Forgotten collegiate players' scoring feats

We all know our Local cagers highest point production in the more popular commercial leagues such as the PBA, PBL and Collegiate leagues like the UAAP and NCAA. but there are less popular leagues where a collegiate player had this great offensive game that was unknown to many, or simply forgotten.

did you know that Allan Caidic didnt actually holds the record for most number of three point shots in the amateurs, as I previously stated, on February 4, 1989, La Salle's Eddie Viaplana hit a record 16 three point shots en route to a 52-point output in La Salle win over San Beda in the MMBL tourney held at the Ateneo Gym. The MMBL crown that year was won by the FEU tamarraws.

In the National Inter-Collegiate Championship held in Iloilo City that same year, Dindo Pumaren, whose PBA career-high must be somewhere between 25-30 points, scored 44 points in La Salle's win over UE in the semifinal round. and there was a player from University of San Agustin Golden Eagles, named Ramil Zarandin, who scored 42 points in USA victory over Mindanao Aeronautic School.

I believe there are many players from the south or other collegiate leagues whose scoring feats were not advertised or arent printed on paper that probably deserves an attention.

I think Michael Dumdum had a 50+ point game in HS

Felix Duhig once hit 20 three-point shots and finished with 70 points in an amateur commercial league in Iloilo in the late 80s.
People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

^ I think he also once hit 94 points in another tournament. This led some afficionados down south to dub him Cebu's answer to Allan Caidic.
In Season 74, it was all about a phenomenal Salva-tion that brought about a Slaughter.

Another unknown player named Rex Manansala from Manuel L Quezon University, the reigning PICAA and CUSA champion back in 1997, scored 48 points against Ateneo de Davao in biennial Arafura Games in Australia.
among his teammates were Francis Aquino, Winnie Arboleda, Omanzie Rodriguez, Albert David and Bonnie Garcia, who act as their playing coach in that tourney.

turns out he was a bust in the PBL...di masyadong pumatok...though alaska did draft him in the bottom rounds either in 1993 or 1994.

pre, pumutok rin si Felix Duhig sa PBL noon kasama siya nila Johnny Abbarientos, Victor Pablo at Rene Hawkins sa Crispa 400 na nag-champion.

still, considering the hype he had immediately prior to joining crispa, i'd still consider him a disappointment...

sayang nga to si Duhig, he has no place sa Alaska, what with so much talents, the milkmen already pick Johnny A and Cardel, tapos si Jolas andun pa, how come other teams didn't consider him, that same rookie class, Boyet Fernandez was originally pick by Swift but ended up with his mother team in the PBL, Sta.Lucia.

Squire Bolabola's 61 big points is no joke
    By Pyke Jocson
    1975 or 1976?

The young cager ripped the net as if it was his last. He delivered a sound seven points in the first quarter, exploding for 22 in the second, added 15 in the third, and banged in 17 in the last. He converted 22 field goals and 17 charities for a total of 61 points, more than half the score of the team, and considered one of the highest individual scores converted in a single amateur basketball game in years.
After his record-breaker, Erwin Bolabola's game perhaps won't be the same anymore. For NC fanatics, it's got to be Erwin is now Letran's grand squire. Erwin, 6-1, and enjoying his sophomore year in the NC, boasts of a deadly medium-range side jump and a variety of unstoppable undergoal shots.
Last year, Edgardo Jayme of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets paced a record of 46 points, and earlier this season, Eaglet Ogie Narvasa almost came to eclipse his last year's teammate's record with a high 42 points.
Even if we compare Erwin's feat with the score of the senior record-holder, former Green Archer Lim Eng Beng's 55 set two years ago in the same glamorous league in overtime play, and former Letran Knight Ricky Pineda's previous 53 points in 1970, and Loreto Carbonell's 46, then a San Beda Red Lion in the early fifties, Erwin's 61, in any language, would still spell sensational.
"Hindi naman ako buwaya, talagang natatapat lang siguro, " he said about his game against the Trinity Colts which his team took, 119-98.
