Wrong premise.* All these countries have two things that we don't: (1) naturally gifted athletes built for their particular sport in execellent natural conditons to make them excel and (2) having these athletes in heaps and thus providing a large grass roots base to choose form.

the key then is to find a sport that is suitable for the filipino build.

i beg to differ. i think we have both. just look at all the young men and women playing basketball in sandlots, cement courts, barangay leagues, school leagues, semi-pro leagues, pro leagues and you'll see thousands of naturally gifted athletes who would have been great at sprints, long distance, jumping, throwing, swimming, volleyball, weightlifting, cycling, rowing, etc. piso sandosena na ang pinoy 6-footers ngayon. these athletes, though, bata pa lang, wala nang ibang nilaro kundi basketball.
