    The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay (PLP) was originally conceived by the late former Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta, who initiated the establishment of a city university in May 1994. Ordinance 271 series of 1994, enacted on May 26, 1994, establishing the Pamantasan as a tertiary or higher institution of learning for and in the city. On May 13, 1995, Ordinance 452 amended the previous one stating, among others, the powers and functions of the governing body of the Pamantasan.

    Guided by a consistent commitment to provide quality education and services to the students, especially the underprivileged, the Pamantasan envisions to achieve quality education, which is competency-based, value-laden, and technology-oriented. It endeavors to produced God-loving, proactive, law-abiding and productive men and women equipped with adequate and relevant knowledge, skills and values that will enable them to practice their professions and to lead quality life in a democratic, just, peaceful and progressive society.

    At present, the Pamantasan offers the following courses to meet the demands of the changing times: Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Nursing, Business Administration major in Marketing and major in Management, Office Management; Bachelor in Public Governance; Certificate in Midwifery; and Associates in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Computer Technology. The College of Law and Graduate School of Education and Public Governance have likewise been opened.

    Currently, the Pamantasan has an enrolment of a little more than 5,300 students.

    The PLP became a member of the NAASCU family last 2001 and participated in the Collegiate Basketball for Men and ranked 3rd place. After four years, PLP competed in the Chess Tournament and bagged the 1st runner-up with Mr. Saturnino Junio Jr. as the coach. Last 2006 with the coaching ability of* Mr. Jerry Villanueva, Eagles joined the Table Tennis Event and it also participated the Volleyball for Women last 2007, Mr. Anselmo Reyes is the coach of the ladies.* To prove that the PLP is truly one of the active and loyal members of the family , it competed in the 7th Season of the NAASCU Cheering Competition were the PLP Pep Squad ended 2nd runner-up. In this season the PLP is planning to compete in the Volleyball Men Category.

    The championship trophy still remains a dream for the PLP Eagles since season 2. Giving the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay a glorious victory is the top priority of the team. Making this dream come true is in the heart of every PLPian in this 8th season.

    Would the Eagles soar high this season? Absolutely, YES!* With the burning desire that flames the spirit of every player, coaching staff and PLP populace, championship is within reach.

    “The first time we competed in this tournament last 2nd season, the Senior Men’s Basketball, we bagged the 3rd place, after seven years, this is the best time for us to muster our strength to be in the lime light”,* Coach Alvin Zuñiga said.* He is the Head Coach of the team since 2001 up to present. Aside from being the Sports Coordinator of the PLP he is also a professor.* Currently he is the Assistant Coach of the Pasay team.* Coach Alvin is not new to this field because during his youthful years until now he is a heartthrob in a hard court. Presently he is one of the players of Philippine Air Force Basketball Team since 2000.* He is also a Varsity Player of UE Warriors from 1994 to 1997. After his college days, he then joined in the PBL, playing in Oriental Battery and Red Bull Energy Drinks Team. He is also a former player of Davao Eagles in MBA.
    Mr. Edwin Macaraig stated that the team undergoes a rigid physical and mental practice and training everyday because he believes that basketball is not just a physical game but as well as a brain game. He also explains that an individual must have a goal to make their dreams into reality. “Every player and every person involve in this team has ONE GOAL- to be a CHAMPION”, Asst. Coach Edwin said. He is a full-time professor under the College of Business Administration. A graduate of University of Sto. Tomas with the degree Bachelor of Economics.

    Assistant Coach Alex D. Balangon reiterated that each player and coaching staff must work and play as a strong team. He also inculcated in the mind of the players that they must have a discipline in all aspects of life. “Through discipline and self-motivation (winning in every game) I know that we can surpass all the impediments that come along our way into the championship battle”, he said. Asst. Coach Alex is the Assistant Dean of the College of Business Administration, he is also the coach of the College’s Basketball Team.

    This season’s team consultant Mr. Alan D. Balangon, the twin brother of Asst. Coach Alex, says that the PLP has really preparing so much for this season. Despite of all the shortcomings the institution is giving its best shot to fully-support the goal of the team. “The school administration has field in new players with best experiences and trainings in the basketball to achieve the elusive championship trophy”, he said. Mr. Balangon is the Department Chair of Social Sciences, he is also the coach of the Women’s Volleyball Team of the College of Arts and Sciences.

    The 5’9” 19 year old Edriane Pineda and 5’8” 23 year old Eulogio Guingon both shooting guards of the team believes that motivation is one of the keys for the team to bring home the trophy.* The 21 year old Roy Fabian a 5 feet and 11 inches tall together with* 20 year old , 5’10’ tall John Love Pacla, they also plays as shooting guards of the team, shares to the team the importance of self-confidence, that each of the player must have that characteristics to outshine all the problems that might be encountered by the team. These shooting guards are all in their two years in the team.

    Five feet six inches tall Ricky Casulla (21 years old) and Joshua Antonio (18 years old) both Point Guards of the team considered the seriousness during practices must be observed by the players. “You must put in your heart and in your mind the essence of all the things that you have done, either it’s in the practice or in the meetings especially during the games for the team,” they said. Another point guards, Jerome Obar (18 years old) and Jerry Fodra (22 years old) with the height of* 5’7” points out that every player must have a goal that coincides with the goal of the team.* The 22- year olds Ronald Pacifico and* Candido Malicdem Jr. with the heights of* 5’10”* also plays as a point guards of the team stated that “ each player of the team must have a self-discipline and self-esteem so that they could play well and the players must not just contented with the practices that the team had, he should also observe a self-training after or before the practices of the team”.

    The new-comer heartthrob John Gerald Cemetera said that all he could give to the team is his best and eagerness to win. This* 19-year old power forward of the team with the height of 6 feet and 1 inch would have a brighter future in the field of basketball. Another forward of the team to watch out for is the 6 feet 2 inches tall Ivan Anjew Cordero (23 years old), he believes that you have to love on what you are doing and everything follows. This 21 year old forward Jonathan Obar is also new to the team with his height ( 5’11”)* combined with his experience from other school and love for the game surely he could contribute a lot to the fulfillment of the team’s goal. Paul Joseph Biala believes that each player should monitor his performance and check his improvement every now and then. This* 23-year old Forward with the height of 6 feet and 1 inch is also one of the hopes of the Eagles,* The towering height of 18 year-old Alvin Eusebio (6’2”) is his edge among the opponents of the team, he is the center man of the team.

    Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay hammered out a tough 72-64 win over Centro Escolar University in ongoing NAASCU action. PJ Biala had 18 points for the PLP Eagles to lead three other players in double digits.

    PLP Eagles won by 11 points last 08-08-08 against Umak...... and today Eagles slammed CEU with a score of 72-64. you're in your way to achieve your goal guys ... keep on spreading your wings and soar high for the glory of our school.. God bless... LOVE YOU guys.. i knew you work hard for this season.. i knew how you feel... i knew that god is always in our side.... though we encountered a lot of shortcomings but life must go on... we have to keep on moving on... SOAR HIGH EAGLES.... BRING BACK THE GLORY OF PLP....

    PLP Eagles won against Holy Angel University just this day August 15, 2008... it's a good bounce back for they lost last August 13, 2008 game against St. Claire...... WISHING ALL THE BEST THAT EAGLES WOULD BE IN THE SEMIS... 3-1 IS NOT BAD.... LOVE YOU GUYS.. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK COACH ALVIN, COACH EDWIN
