UAAP Season 75 na, and DLSU's pep squad continues its shameless, disgusting, cheap bastardization of our one-word cheer.

    Shame.

DLSU's pep squad's shameless, disgusting, cheap bastardization of our one-word cheer continued today.

And again, DLSU's pep squad's shameless, disgusting, cheap bastardization of our one-word cheer continued in our last match.

    Shame.

Now even the "puso" and "all heart" battlecries, even the formations are being plagiarized.

    SHAME.

STOP COPYING OUR CHEERS AND DRUMBEATS.

San Beda’s “ANIMO SAN BEDA! BEAT ______________!” is probably the most copied cheer nowadays. We’ve heard the following 2nd rate versions:

    1. arriba letran! beat _________!
    2. bravo baste! beat _________!
    3. animo rizal! beat _________!
    4. animo la salle! beat _________!
    5. animo benilde! beat _________!

    Uh, Letran... "Get that ball?"

    Explain.

perhaps the letranistas are in the best position to explain their "get that ball" cheer, but i believe that this was a generic cheer back then. or at least it was something we shared with letran when the ateneo was still in the NCAA. IIRC, as a fourth-grader watching the ateneo-san beda finals back in '75, when our team had the ball, the cheer was "shoot that ball," and then "get that ball" when the opponent had it. when we left the NCAA, i think letran just continued with it. they are a school with a proud cheering tradition that goes way back in time, like san beda. i doubt they would try to imitate anything that anybody else did, like UE did with our "get that ball." my recollection is UE did not have a "get that ball" cheer prior to '03, and have actually discontinued it, adopting everyone else's "defense" only beginning last year.

Jeep, thanks for sharing your personal experience. I had my schooling from 1965 (prep) to 1982 (eng'g). Back then, "get that ball", "shoot that ball", "animo", drum beats, fight songs were staples in the NCAA. Everyone was using it and there was no fuss among the communities. Of course, hurled profanity was a different story. It often resulted in rumbles : (

    Have a good weekend everyone!
