All is set for the staging of the Congressman Erbie A. Fabian Cup 3rd Student Basketball Tournament which will be held on September 8 (Saturday) at City Coliseum at Tetuan, this city.
The tournament is being sponsored by Congressman Fabian in cooperation with the El Federacion Basketbolista de Zamboanga.
According to Bong Casimiro, sports coordinator for the Congressional Office of Rep. Fabian, the basketball tournament will be participated in by 15 schools, colleges and universities from both public and private schools.
Casimiro said that the opening program of the games will be preceded by a long motorcade that will start at City Hall which will pass along the major thoroughfares of the city up to the coliseum.
A muse of the day will also be chosen out of the different muses from each participating basketball team.
Casimiro said that to further make the opening program more colorful,* a cheer dance competition and drum and lyre contest will also be held that would be participated in by several selected high school and colleges.
“Our basketball tournament is now on its third season. We’re very glad that many schools have registered for the tourney,” Casimiro said.
He assured that the Federacion Basketbolista de Zamboanga and the Office of Rep. Fabian have prepared fabulous prizes and trophies for the winners including consolation prizes for the participating teams.
“The basketball team of the different schools here are very grateful to Fabian for consistently supporting the promotion and development of basketball here in the city. This is a good opportunity for the basketball teams of schools to really further sharpen their skills and prowess in the said sports,” Casimiro added.
Meanwhile, Federacion Basketbolista president Pedro Alfaro Jr. said they expect the tournament to be more exciting as he said that most if not all the basketball teams here in the city are just at par with each other.
“We would definitely see actions when rival schools and colleges meet in the court. The public is invited to witness this great sports event,” Alfaro said.
Fabian, for his part, assured that he will always be consistent in supporting basketball here in the city to include other sports like soccer, volleyball, baseball, cycling, boxing and billiard, among others.
“Promoting sports here in the city will greatly encourage our young people to be physically fit and sports-minded. Besides, they will also be pre-occupied with sports and in the process will stay away from drugs and other vices,” Fabian stressed.
