The very first Iranian player that caught my attention was 6'7" Nosratolla Iliavi of their national team which we barely defeated in the 1974 Asian Games held in Tehran. The overthrow of the Shah later on stunted their development as a basketball power. China was just beginning to flex its muscles then, and overtook the Iranians as a regional power.
