    Mighty Filter Kings strike back

    THE MIGHTY Filter Kings went to former UP star Edrick Ferrer to down the PNP Shooters, 85-76, in the MBT Corporate Cup Wednesday at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

    Ferrer exploded for 20 points while Roel Assay chipped in 12 markers as the Mighty Filter Kings rebounded from a stinging 88-84 double overtime defeat to Polymasters in the opening day.

    Also shining for the Gerry’s Grillbacked Mighty Filter Kings were Mark Victoria, Clark Torrente and Woody Co who combined for 25 points.

    With Ferrer knocking in a trey, the Mighty Filter Kings, gunning for their second title in the tournament organized by Metro Basketball Tournament, Inc. pulled away from a tight contest to level their record to 1-1.

    They posted a slim lead of 48-44 at halftime but when Co and Asay got into the groove, there was no stopping the Mighty Filter Kings from taking several 14-point leads early in the payoff period.

    Aside from contributing 9 points each, Victoria and Torrente tended both boards with authority that led to their several fastbreak plays.

    Aside from their involment in competitive basketball tournaments, the Mighty Filter Kings through the Mighty Sports Association are also active in promoting basketball and football in several provinces.

    MSA sponsored the recent Mighty College Hoops in Malolos, Bulacan and the Football Festival in Bacolod last July. Changing The Face of The Game!

    CKP 168, Polymasters, Jas Cellphone make MBT semis

    MANILA, Philippines--CKP 168 blasted Rusty Lopez, 82-60, to barge into the semifinals of the MBT Corporate Cup Wednesday at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

    John Valderama scored 18 points while Hakim Alcantara, Roel Capati and Dexter Micutan chipped in 10 points each as CKP 168 arranged a semifinal duel with the Mighty Filter Kings.

    Also advancing to the next round are Polymasters and Jas Cellphone.

    The winners of Saturday's semifinal will advance to the best-of-three finals. Game One is slated on Nov. 12.

    The Polymasters tripped Nougat Candy, 78-72, while Jas Cellphone leaned on Paul Santiago to crush the PNP Shooters, 78-72.
