ACSAT prevails over PCCr, Eaglets demolish UPIS

The Asian College of Science and Technology Lightnings proved to be steadier in the endgame by narrowly escaping with an 88-83 victory over the Philippine College of Criminology at the UE gym in Recto. Chris Bularon of the Lightnings scorched hot in the payoff period by scoring all of his 15 points which included three 3-point baskets. Bularon was injured in the first quarter when he collided with a PCCr player opening up a gash under his right eye which would require stitches.

ACSAT main man Rey Burgos was hounded throughout the game with foul trouble. He picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls early in the 3rd quarter and had to sit out the rest of the quarter. The Lightnings played minus their reliables Lito Casil, Harvey Igtos, Ruel Jabaybay, Alec dela Pena who are all catching up on their school work.

Earlier, the Ateneo Blue Eaglets demolished a listless UPIS team. The final score was Ateneo up by more than 20 points.

Arellano U edges ACSAT

The Arellano University Chiefs narrowly escaped with a 75-74 victory over the tough ACSAT Lightnings yesterday in the elimination phase of the Fr. Martin Cup Summer League held at the UE gym. The game was close throughout with no team having a clear advantage and had several lead changes.

ACSAT big man Rey Burgos committed a foul on an Arellano player which sent him to the stripe time down to 10 seconds with the score tied at 74. He made 1 out 2 which turned out to be the final score. The Lightnings still had a chance to win the game but they turned the ball over in the ensuing play as time expired.

Arellano the reigning NCRAA champion was led by old reliables Orlando Daroya, Gio Ciria Cruz and Nathaniel Estilo as they shared the scoring load for the Chiefs. Leonard Anquillo, the dimunitive point guard who was elevated from the Junior Chiefs scored 10 points including 2 treys in an excellent supporting role.

FEU tops ACSAT

The FEU Tamaraws defeated a very determined ACSAT Lightnings team 55-51 in the continuation of the FMC Summer league at the UE gym in Recto. Of the FEU players who where of note were 2 (IMO) African descent players, FEU HS standout Knutel(tama ba spelling) and Tanuan. The Lightnings had a chance to tie the game with 30 seconds left but was pressured by the tight FEU defense into committing a 24 second violation. The Lightnings then fouled Tanuan who calmly sank two free throws for the final score.

FEU led by a much as 12 points midway through the 4th quarter but the hot shooting of ACSAT guards Chris Bularon, Lito Casil and Angel Quilaquiga brought the Lightnings back.
