Chris Soler basically says that Ray Parks is eligible to play.
In another tweet, he said that G. Slaughter has likewise been cleared by the board.

    UAAP commish to suspend ref

    By Olmin Leyba

MANILA, Philippines - UAAP Season 74 commissioner Andy Jao is likely to crack the whip on a referee who officiated Saturday’s matchup between defending champion Ateneo and archrival La Salle at the Araneta Coliseum.

Referee Amado Soriano faces possible suspension for “poor performance and judgment” especially in the second half of the Ateneo-La Salle tussle, which the Blue Eagles won, 81-72.

“I still don’t have the official action but I plan to suspend Soriano until the end of the first round and (we’ll) evaluate after that,” Jao told The STAR yesterday.

No formal complaint was filed by either teams but Jao and his staff took it upon themselves to take action. They reviewed the tape of the game yesterday and would write supervisor Romy Guevarra and the UAAP board about their decision later this week.

“We’re trying to maintain a high standard so that everybody will be satisfied. We’re working on that. And there’s no timetable. We want to start from the very beginning, that’s why if I find some instances like this, we have to act immediately,” Jao said.

He admitted there’s still some work to be done in so far as officiating is concerned.

“(Overall) It leaves something to be desired. We always have high standards but there can never be a perfect game called in the same way as there can never be a perfect game played or coached, whether it’s from a player or a coach’s point of view,” he said.

Hoops commissioner suspends ‘erratic’ referee, bats for genuine quality officiating in U.A.A.P.
    MONDAY, 18 JULY 2011 19:40 JOEL ORELLANA / REPORTER

BASKETBALL commissioner Andy Jao is recommending the suspension—for at least the first round—of a referee for his lapses in the Ateneo-De La Salle duel in Season 74 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Jao told the BusinessMirror on Monday that referee Amado Soriano made “erratic” calls during the match won by the Blue Eagles, 81-72.

“It’s not official because I have yet to inform technical supervisor Romy Guevarra and the UAAP Board, but my decision is to suspend him in the first round of the eliminations,” said Jao.

“I watched the [tape] of that game and asked my boys to splice the concrete errors he made and there were really erratic calls on his part and when I saw them, sabi ko talagang hindi ko palalagpasin ito,” he added.

Soriano was told not to report for Sunday’s scheduled games also at the Big Dome.

Although Jao clarified that Soriano’s erratic calls did not decide the outcome of the game, Jao said they need to maintain quality officiating in the UAAP even if it would deplete his pool of game officials.

There are eight Class A and as many Class B referees in Jao’s stable. “Class A usually have more experience, especially in high-profile games plus continuous high rating in performance [from the past]. And [their] natural talent has been proven. But in this case, I did not make the classification,” said Jao of the classification of the referees.

“But we have to do this so that we can ensure the quality of the games. As I’ve always said, our objective is for the deserving team to win. Ateneo deserved to win. It just so happened na may ganitong nangyari,” said Jao.

Soriano, Jao said, would be assigned for the juniors and women’s games and if he shows improvements, he would be recalled for the seniors tournament in the second round.

Jao was not very specific about Antonio’s erratic calls but said the referee made successive questionable foul calls on Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena and De La Salle’s Juami Tiongson in the fourth period.

Jao said the league, under host Ateneo, intends to maintain consistency in the quality of its referees and officiating as a whole. He said Ateneo has even increased the pool of referees for each game from the traditional four to five this season.

“Usually apat lang each game and one will be an alternate referee. But Ateneo agreed na gawin lima. It’s an additional expense but a necessary expense for the good of the league,” he said.

    Five referees? Andami naman.

Di tulad sa DILG. Pag wala daw complaint, hindi sila aaksyon, huhuhuhu.
