    ACSAT defeats De Ocampo

The Asian College of Science and Technology Lightnings broke into the win column but beating a tough fighting De Ocampo squad 84-74 at the MBT Alex Wang Cup held at the Rizal Technological University gym in Boni. It was the Lightnings' first win in two starts in the post Welland Munoz era who has already completed his playing years. De Ocampo trailed throughout but was never out of contest and only trailed by 3 points 73-70 with 2 minutes to go.

A crucial three-point basket by ACSAT's Lito Casil virtually put the game away 76-70 and the Lightnings coasted the rest of the way. ACSAT also missed the services of 3 point specialist Nico Pupos who is concentrating on his studies.

The MBT is features a mix of current and former collegiate stars. Big names such as the Espiritu brothers Alwin and Anthony, Don Villamin, Melchor Latoreno who are all from the UST Growling Tigers. Al Magpayo of CSB, Ariel Capus of JRU are all competing in the MBT.

    * * *Alex Wang is a businessman who loves basketball.* He is the man behind Wang's Ball Club, a team that has been in existence for over ten years now.* The team started out from Wang's regular friendly pick up games.* He noticed that some of his friends would bring along to their games name players (ie past and present varsity, commercial and pro players) so the group then decided to join small tournaments and thus Wang's Ball Club was born.

    * * *Since then, the team has gone on to play on bigger tournaments, including a brief stint in the PBL as Kendi Mint and in the NBL representing Wang's home base of Mandaluyong City.

5th Ave. Electronics exerted enough effort to narrowly escape an 89-86 win over the ACSAT Lightnings last Saturday at the RTU gym in Boni. ACSAT had a chance to send the game into overtime but the last second three point heave of Lightnings off-guard Angel Quilaquiga was short.

The team of 5th Ave. is bannered by PBL veterans such as Larry Rodriguez, Jam Alfad, Melchor Latoreno, Anthony Espiritu, Al Magpayo, Angelus Raymundo.
