    The FILOIL – FLYING V Homegrown Invitational Cup takes a break this weekend as it joins the rest of the Philippines in cheering, hoping and praying for a Manny Pacquiao victory in Las Vegas .

    After three games of the tournament, the following have excelled and are leading the MVP statistical race: Rico Maierhoffer of the De Las Salle Green Archers leads the pack with 48 statistical points. He shares the lead with James Martinez of University of the East.

    They are followed closely by Brian Faundo of the Letran Knights (45.4 SP), Pong Escobal of the San Beda Red Lions (45 SP) and Benedict Fernandez of the Far Eastern Tamaraws.

    Maierhoffer has been instrumental in orchestrating the three La Salle wins in the tournament so far. In his last assignment versus the Santo Tomas U Tigers, he scored a double-double (11 points and 11 rebounds), coupled with 5 assists.

    Martinez, in their recent win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles showed his steady shooting from the outside as he gunned down 18 points with two rebounds and four assists in his first assignment at the Homegrown Cup.

    Faudo in his last two outings averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Escobal’s lone game produced 18 points and seven assists. Fernandez’s impressive debut showed 13 points, three rebounds and seven assists.

    Rounding up the top 10 in statistical points at the Filoil-
    Flying V Homegrown Invitational Cup are Ogie Menor of San Beda (43 SP), Jayson Nocom of Jose Rizal (42 SP), Jim Bruce Viray of San Sebastian-R (41.5 SP), Mark Fampulme of UE (40 SP) and Reli Cervantes of FEU (40 SP).

    The Filoil-Flying V Homegrown Invitational Cup resumes on November 24 with JRU facing UE in the 12 noon opening tiff. This will be followed by the UST vs. UP game at 2 p.m., DLSU vs. FEU at 4 p.m. The night cap features the ADMU Blue Eagles vs. the SSC Stags at 6 p.m.

    The league is supported by Flying V Bio-Diesel, Filpride USA 88, Franz Burger, RJ100, Millennium Plans, Globe Telecom, Pepsi, Gerry’s Grill, Accel Sports, Nike and Filoil Portagas.
