CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Robert Valconcha sizzled in the final quarter to lift the Lanao Royals to a stunning 65-62 win over erstwhile unbeaten Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr in the ML Kwarta Padala Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference Friday at the Xavier University Gym here.
Valconcha tallied nine points in the fourth, including a crucial basket that gave them a 64-59 lead, enough to cushion MisOr’s determined comeback and notch their first win in four starts.
The win was a revenge of sort for the Royals who absorbed a stinging 56-79 loss to MisOr last Oct. 13 at the Mindana Civic Center.
Team owner Gov. Imelda Q. Dimaporo immediately sent a text message to the team moments after being informed of their win that snapped MisOr’s five-game winning streak.
A triple by Gilbert Demape shoved MisOr to within 62-64 but it proved their last gallant stand eventhough Baltazar Jueves bungled two crucial free throws. Despite miscues, MisOr also missed a chance to tie the game when Maui Huelar missed an easy lay-up.
In frustration, Huelar quickly fouled Benjamin Clavite who split his free throws for the final tally.
Kent Joemar Senining led the Royals to their first win in franchise history with 15 points. Valconcha finished with 13.
Bob Cozy Ilanga topped MisOr with 15 followed by Demape with 11.
Over at the New Cebu City Coliseum, First Conference champion M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu also exacted a sweet revenge over Cebu Landmaster-Mantawi by pulling off an 83-75 win for its second straight win.
