Xavier Quits Tiong Lian

Latest Development in the MMTLBA

According to a reliable source, founding member Xavier School will officially take a leave of absence from the Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association next week, leaving the 43-year league with just three teams under its fold - 2013 champion Hope Christian High School, Chiang Kai Shek College and St. Stephen's High School.

This stunning development may probably result in the demise of the MMTLBA, which traditionally commences hostilities in January of each year.

Earlier this summer, St. Jude Catholic School and Grace Christian College also filed a leave. Uno High School withdrew from the league as early as before the 2013 season.

The controversial recruitment issue has divided the MMTLBA member teams for the past three years, resulting in the departure of Uno, St. Jude Catholic School, Grace Christian College, and soon, Xavier School.

Hope Christian High School, which along with CKSC has relied heavily on recruiting Filipino players without Chinese roots in recent years, was to be the host team next year.

St. Jude Catholic School, Grace Christian College and Uno High School has since formed a new homegrown Chinese-Filipino High School league, the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association, along with three other teams.

Isama na natin dito and Xavier, UNO, St Jude at Grace nung time na kasali pa sila. If no rule exists, no prohibition exists, then no rule was violated, therefore making those that left merely, what's the term I'm looking for... Oh right, SORE LOSERS.

Pure Filipinos are ALLOWED to study and be members of the varsity squad in Tiong Lian schools as long as they are homegrown. Homegrown meaning, they are enrolled in a particular Tiong Lian school to study primarily, and not as some hired assassin na ni-recruit primarily for the purpose of playing for the varsity.

In fact, in the past 4 decades, pure-Pinoys have strutted their wares in the Tiong Lian scene. Schools like Xavier, Philippine Cultural (of the 70's & 80's), and even Hope Christian & Chiang Kai Shek have had their shares of pure-Pinoy varsity members.

In my opinion, all these schools are all entitled to their own wishes and wants.

If 2 groups of independent entities couldn't agree on the same principles, missions & visions...they might as well go their separate ways. And no hard feelings dapat.

Sir joe..share ko lng oo dati wala rules, kc more on camaraderie n honesty ang liga. Kun last year UNO lng umalis , sabihin mu sore loser pwede pa, kc talunan sila. To think kun hindi untenable na to stay on p sa TL, I believe pipols like doc james tan of grace o father dy of Xavier will decide to leave.

Pero coach pls enlighten me lng ha , sa parada ng teams opening ng TL , kumpleto all guests, principals presidents alumnus ng all 7 schools members. Tapos yun cksc being the premier n largest Chinese schools in Philippines parade an all pinoy juniors team, almost all pinoy ladies team, almost all pinoy aspi teams n lastly almost all pinoy 11 under developmental team . Hehehe hindi b tayo i iling iling , like wat pnoy say.." hindi ko alam San sila kumuha kapal ng mukha". Maybe you wud say anu problema dun kun yan gusto nila, pero NASAAN n yun spirit n objective ng tionglian...name p lng alam natin yun purpose ng mga tumayo nyan. Yun yearly Taiwan trip ng TL selection..yun iba TL officials allergic na nga sumama e...kc our Taiwan counterparts umiiling iling bakit each year mas marami na pinoy ang nasa selection. e sa tagal ng goodwill games, alam nila fil-chi league ang TL.
