After a one-year absence, the Metro Manila Tiong Basketball Association returns to action this month with the staging of an 11-and-under tournament. Participating are host Xavier School, Saint Jude Catholic School, Hope Christian College and Grace Christian College. Saint Stephen's High School and Chiang Kai Shek College reportedly are also interested in joining the tournament for athletes age 11 and below. Meanwhile, the Juniors or high school competitions remain shelved for at least four years. This action is being taken to assure that the homegrown/recruiting issues that divided the league a year ago will be resolved by itself in four years.

In a Tiong Lian Board meeting last night, it was decided that the league will suspend play next season. The decision came about after Xavier School and Grace Christian College, whose representatives attended the board meeting, simply informed host Hope Christian HS that they will sit out the 2014 season. Xavier and Grace actually did not file a leave from the league. Legal impediments apparently played a role in the decision to just suspend play in January next year. A leave or withdrawal by Xavier and Grace would have resulted in the dissolution of the league, which probably what the Board would like to avoid.
Mammoth Isaac Go had 18 points and 15 rebounds as Xavier School beat Chiang Kai Shek College, 84-63, Thursday afternoon to secure a quarterfinal spot (final eight) in the 2nd PSSBC high school basketball tournament held at the SGS gym in Quezon City. The Golden Stallions, who led by at least 10 points early in the 1st and as many as 25 points, 80-55, in a start to finish romp, will finish 3rd or 4th in Group A depending on the result of the National University-Mapua Tech game later in the day. If the UAAP champion Bulldogs beat the Red Robins, Xavier will be seeded 3rd and pull CKSC into the quarters at No. 4. If Mapua beats NU, the former will be No. 3 and Xavier No. 4 while resulting in CKSC's ouster.
