UAAP Finals foes turn teammates as NU's Alolino, Khobuntin join Belo, Tolomia in PBA D-League
From: Reuben Terrado October 24, 2014, 07:51 pm

UAAP Finals rivals have turned teammates in the PBA D-League. National University cagers Gelo Alolino, Glenn Khobuntin, and Tristan Perez will join forces with Far Eastern University players when they play in the D-League Aspirants Cup set to open on October 27. Alolino, Khobuntin, and Perez have signed up with MJM Builders for the coming conference following their stints with the Bulldogs, who won the UAAP Season 77 crown at FEU's expense. Incidentally, MJM Builders has a school tie-up with FEU, enabling it to tap most of the players from the Tamaraws' runner-up team in the last collegiate season. MJM Builders will be led by FEU stars Mythical Five awardee Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia with Carl Bryan Cruz, Raymar Jose, Ron Dennison, Anthony Hargrove, Russel Escoto, and Achie Iñigo as other Tamaraws players. Former Tamaraw Gryann Mendoza and University of the East guard Dan Alberto are also in the lineup of MJM Builders, which will be coached by Nash Racela.

From: Reuben Terrado October 26, 2014, 09:39 pm

THEY may have made the UAAP Finals this year and finished runner-up to eventual champion National University. But don’t expect the nucleus of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws to make a quick impact when they wear the MJM Builders uniform in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

FEU assistant coach Eric Gonzales said the Tamaraws won’t return to practice until October 27 - or the same day when the season-opening tournament opens shop. Gonzales said the team took a well-deserved respite following a grueling UAAP campaign that saw the Tamaraws battle the Bulldogs in three hard-fought games in the Finals. “Puro kami pahinga,” Gonzales admitted. “Magpa-practice pa lang kami sa October 27.” The Tamaraws will retain the solid core of their UAAP roster led by Mike Tolomia and Mac Belo, who was named part of the UAAP Mythical Five in the recently concluded Season 77.

Also joining the two are Carl Bryan Cruz, Raymar Jose, RR Pogoy, Achie Iñigo, Russel Escoto, Anthony Hargrove, and Ron Dennison, while complementing them are NU players Gelo Alolino, Glenn Khobuntin, and Tristan Perez, ex-Tamaraw Gryann Mendoza, and point guard Dan Alberto. Gonzales said the team will try to finish the best place possible for the team this conference. “Pupukpok lang kami then, tignan na lang natin kung saan kami matatapos,” said Gonzales.

Lawrence Chongson seems to be of the opinion that Mac Belo will play for Tanduay. What's the latest on this?

Most probably sir. I watched last night and did not see Belo play. They lost to Cagayan. But i saw Javelona.

I think PBA D League rules allow Mac Belo to play for his school team if he just completes a player intent form or something like that.

If that's the case then Tanduay will have to question the right of a private organization to set its own rules over and above a valid contract.

I know the law will not allow a breach of contract as a general principle, but then again this will come down to whether or not Tanduay was aware of this rule, because if they were, and they accepted it as part of joining the league, then their legal basis for compelling Belo to stay with them will crumble.

Mac Belo explains why he played for M-Builders instead of Rum Masters

By :Angelo Falcon on November 4, 2014

MANILA – Mac Belo finally cleared out his side on the contract dispute between Tanduay and the MJM M-Builders.

Belo, who previously played for Boracay Rum who’s under the Tanduay franchise, suited up for the M-Builders this year which started the dispute.

The Rum Masters claim that they have the rights to the 6’4 FEU Forward up to this year but Belo is claiming otherwise.

“Nagkaron kami ng agreement na pag nagkaron ng team ang FEU, sa kanila ako maglalaro,” Belo said.

Currently, the M-Builders are being backed by the FEU Tamaraws in the PBA D-League, and that’s the reason Belo is suiting up for them as of the moment.

FEU athletic director Mark Molina stated that they have Belo’s backing all the way in this contract mess.

“We’re standing by him. We believe him. He told me that last year pa. Meron silang usapan na pag may team ang FEU he will play for us,” Molina said.

Molina hopes that this wouldn’t end up on a Philippine court room but stated that the team and the school will have Belo’s back if and if that reaches that point.

“If there are legal implications we will be here for Mac until the end,” he said.

“Ang samin lang, we’re sticking with Mac’s statements. Kung may legal implications yan, we’ll see. Hopefully wala pa. We’re in a wait and see situation,” He added.

Unfortunately for them, the Rum Masters got a little bit of vengeance as they succumbed to Tanduay, 78-77 in their D-League matchup last Thursday. - Rivals 2014

Lawrence Chongson to Mac Belo: ‘Di ko naman siya asawa para iyakan ko siya ng todo

By:Angelo Falcon on November 4, 2014

MANILA – Despite saying that he’s finally put the Mac Belo issue behind him, controversial coach Lawrence Chongson still can’t help but feel jubilant after their 78-77 victory over the FEU-backed MJM M-Builders last Monday.

Pressed for comments about their victory, Chongson kept it plain and sweet.

“Di lang sweet (ang panalo), may kape pa,” he said.

However, Chongson cleared that he’s leaving it all up to the management to fix the contract dispute between him and Belo.

Chongson even said that it’s unfair for his 14 other players to see him crying over Belo when in fact it’s clear that they can move on without him.

“Di ko naman asawa si Belo para iyakan ko siya ng todo,” He said.

“May 14 other guys pa ako. Unfair din eh. Baka sabihin nila, ‘iniiyakan natin yung wala, kami andito naman coach.’ umaasa sila sa akin,” he added.

Chongson further denied the claim that he and Belo had a verbal agreement about Belo leaving assuming there’s an FEU squad that will join the D-League.

“Wala akong marecall na ganun ang pinagusapan namin,” he mentioned.

But then again, he reiterated that it’s finally time for him and the management to move on, despite admitting that losing Belo and Chris Newsome prior to the season affected their squad.m

“I’ll be lying if I said na di kami affected. But things our thrown our way and it’s just a matter of how we will respond and react dun.” - Rivals 2014

1. Coach Nash Racela was thrown out in the 2nd quarter after incurring 2 technical fouls after arguing and entering the court in non call against the refs.

2. Gryann Mendoza was also thrown out after nudging a referee in the 3rd quarter.

3. Tolomia, Belo, Alolino throwing bricks here and there.

4. Hence, MJM Builders-FEU suffered their 3rd straight loss in a still winless campaign.

Schedule conflict forces FEU Tamaraws to split team for PBA D-League, PCCL games
From: Reuben Terrado
•November 18, 2014, 07:31 pm

Coach Nash Racela has an idea which players will be sent to what game, but has yet to confirm which side he'll be coaching.
FAR Eastern University will be splitting its squad for matches in the PBA D-League and the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) that will be held at the same time on Monday in separate venues.

Coach Nash Racela already has a plan on which players will play where, although he hasn’t decided which side to handle. The veteran coach said FEU tried asking both leagues for a possible schedule adjustment, but neither gave way.

The FEU-backed MJM M-Builders will have a D-League game against BreadStory-Lyceum at the JCSGO gym slated at 4 p.m., the same time the Tamaraws begin battle in the PCCL against La Salle at the Ynares Sports Arena.

"Four o'clock, we have D-League. Four o'clock, may PCCL game ang FEU," FEU coach Nash Racela said.

Racela said they will most likely have Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia, and the Tamaraws core play in the D-League due to the school's commitment with MJM, a production outfit.

UAAP champion National University, which also has players in the MJM squad in the PBA D-League, also has a PCCL game at 2 p.m. against NCAA titlist San Beda.

“Right now, ang FEU talaga committed to a partnership with MJM. If there is a team that will sacrifice, definitely it’s FEU,” said Racela.

“Most likely, our core will play in the D-League, and the rest, sa PCCL. And we are playing La Salle,” said Racela.

The Tamaraws are in third place with a 0-1 win-loss mark in Group B of the PCCL. The top two teams in the group advance to the semifinals.

In the D-League, the M-Builders recently won their first game after three straight defeats to open the conference.

Racela said the PBA D-League exposure is a great opportunity for the UAAP Season 77 runner-ups Tamaraws to gain experience as they build up for next year.

“Like some of our players, they are comfortable in the UAAP pero sa D-League, hindi. Kailangan nilang matutunan ’yun,” said Racela.

Meanwhile FEU MJM lost their game against Bread Story and is now 1 - 4. Things are not looking good as only 6 teams will advance to the playoffs.
