UAAP Season 76 volleyball opens December 1

MANILA, Philippines — The anticipated volleyball action in UAAP Season 76 kicks off on December 1 with an explosive double header to open the season at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Reigning titlist La Salle takes on darkhorse Adamson in the 4 p.m. main game, while and last year’s runner-up Ateneo roadtests a rookie-laden roster opposite to Santiago sisters-led National University (NU) at 2 p.m.

Apart from the Big Dome, majority of the matches in the first round of the eliminations will be held at the Arena in San Juan according to a scheduled released by the league as of October 23.

The La Salle Lady Spikers will be opening their bid for a fourth-straight women’s title with a line-up that still looks invincible against the Lady Falcons who finished third last season.

Despite losing Michelle Gumabao, who decided to forgo her final year and graduates Wensh Tiu and libero Melissa Gohing, La Salle remains formidable with Season 75 co-Most Valuable Players Abigail Maraņo, and Ara Galang and Kim Fajardo.

But most of the attention is expected be on Lady Bulldogs, with their dreaded twin towers—Dindin and Jaja Santiago—who stand six-foot-four and six-foot-five, respectively.

Dindin,19, and Jaja,17, made an immediate impact when they led NU to the crown in an off-season tournament earlier this year.

Ateneo, on the other hand, is going to face major challenge with a line-up that is missing Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho, and Jem Ferrer.

Season host Adamson University, meanwhile, will have Sheila Pineda, Marleen Cortel, Faye Guevara, Amanda Villanueva and Mayette Zapanta as frontliners.

The men’s hostilities also starts on December 1 with reigning champion NU facing La Salle at 10 a.m., and last year’ second-placer Far Eastern University battling fourth-seed Adamson University in the first game at 8:30 a.m.

From FEU WVT Lady Tamaraws official FB Page

18 y/o Fil-Am Middle Attacker from Sunny Hills High School California Jerrili Malabanan confirmed that she's currently enrolled with FEU. But she might not able to join the roster for UAAP76 due to the 1 year residency rule.

Great game by our Womens team against UE, but it proves nothing. I mean, with all due respect to UE, the Warriors are not that competitive this season. Eulalio and Vargas' loss is too much but enter Bernadette Pons and that tall player.

Sweep against UE.............bring on Ateneo.

FEU keeps UE losing in women's volleyball

December 4, 2013 6:18pm

The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws were not about to be the ones to end the University of the East Lady Warriors' losing skid.

UE, which has now lost 18 straight games stretching back to 2012, fell in a three-set romp by FEU, 25-14, 25-15, 25-11, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, in the season-opener of these two sides in Season 76.

No UE player scored more than six points in the rout. Team captain Sarina Bulan scored six on five spikes and a block, while Ma. Shaya Adorador added five.

FEU on the other hand leaned on 10 points by Bernadette Pons, while Geneveve Casugod added nine. The Lady Tams also got 32 points off opponents' errors, and got 29 excellent sets, 28 courtesy of captain Gizelle Sy, versus the 11 of UE. - AMD, GMA News

FEU cruises past UE in UAAP women's volleyball

MANILA, Philippines – The Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws made short work of the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors as they opened their UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament campaign with a three-set win.

Behind the excellent setting of skipper Gyzelle Sy, the Lady Tamaraws cruised to a 25-14, 25-15 and 25-11 victory over the error prone Lady Warriors.

In each set, the Lady Tamaraws pulled away after the first technical timeout, with Bernadeth Pons and Gen Casugod, as well as Rem Palma, taking turns scoring for FEU.

UE had its best chance in the third set, when they briefly led 4-2 following uncharacteristic receiving errors from the Lady Tams, but attacks from Pons and Palma, as well as a hitting error from UE’s Shaya Adorador, quickly restored order.

The towering pair of Casugod and Palma made it difficult for UE to put together consistent attacks at the net, but it was Sy’s masterful setting that kept the Lady Warriors guessing throughout the game.

Sy, a former UAAP Best Setter, finished the game with two attack points and 28 excellent sets

FEU MVT opened their 2nd round campaign with two straight victories, 1st against their 1st round tormentors Adamson and repeating over rival UST in another 5 setter.

FEU WVT is not that lucky losing to NU in their 2nd round opener and will face the highly touted DLSU on sat.

FEU MVT is now sporting a win loss card after dropping their match against DLSU in 3 sets. Yes folks, its a sweep.

FEU WVT is much luckier and is poised enter the step ladder format after beating rival UST

In a weird, unfathomable ways...FEU WVT lost to the 7th place UP. And putting their campaign to enter the step ladder format in peril. Shaq used Palma to no end in their game against AdU hoping for a win but it bounced back badly. Not only did we lose but Palma aggravated her injury, the reason why she was nowhere in their match against UP.

Can we win against Ateneo? NO. Can AdU win against UST? Yes. Congrats Adamson. Better luck next season FEU.

The FEU WVT ended thei season 76 campaign after they fell short against AdU in 5 sets. Hoping for a better performance next season with the rumored return of Rosemarie Vargas and the entry of Malabanan sisters.

Thanks for the memories Sam Dawson and Christine Agno. The best Tam digger since Taganas.

FEU WVT bowed out for the Finals contention after losing to Ateneo in 5 sets led by the new Volleyball's golden boy Espejo.
