We do have a team manager. Dati siyang team manager ng Pharex team at ng mag-disband nga ang team nila, i hired him na the conference after.

Atenista rin kasi yang manager namin and malamang nangibabaw din sa kanya yung huwag munang i-distract si Newsome since pa-Final 4 yung Ateneo between the dates September 15-21.

Rosario, having played for BdO last season, is considered a free agent. Therefore, he is free to chose whichever team he so desires to join. I have made a "tempting" offer to Rosario as well but for him to still choose Hapee over us simply gives me the impression that "monstrous" ang naging offer sa kanya ng kabila.

Yung genuine na tanong dyan, gaano ba ka-prestigious ang D-League trophy for the MVP Group to employ the "win at all cost" formula dito, notwithstanding the delicadeza factor. Parang sina-salampak na sa mukha ng ibang mga participants dito yung "umayaw ka na kung ayaw mo" hamon..and the league doesn't seem to care one bit.

Its an option. Discussing with a lawyer now. Any inputs from you, sir, would be very much appreciated. Sobrang agrabyado na naman kasi namin din. Arrogante din yung mga sumusulsol kay Belo instead of advicing him to do the right thing.

Yung pagpirma ni Belo last year sa amin, kusang-loob naman niya yon at walang pumilit, walang pumwersa, walang tumutok ng baril at walang halong pananakot.

I think it's the right thing to do, without prejudice to any extra judicial settlement. I think agents and players will have to realize that contracts are not just pieces of scrap they can throw away at their convenience. Never mind what other people will say if you enforce your rights. It's a damn-if-you-do-and-if-you-don't situation anyway, so you might as well do what is right. I'm sure other teams will support you, albeitquietly.

You're correct on those 2 precedents that you've indicated. Romeo with Big Chill and RR Garcia with NLEX. Both Tamaraws then just like Belo now.

Dun sa inquiry ni Sam Miguel..walang ganung ruling ang D-League kaya players like Hargrove, Inigo, Jose of FEU, yung mga top 6 players ng Saint Clare and AMA..also school-based teams, they had to draft those players parin in the rookie draft.

Just like when Cebuana had a tie-up with UE last year, sina Sumang, Javier, Olivares and school players that haven't played D-League in the past..kailangan pang dumaan sa rookie draft ng mga yan.

I can only surmise that "respect and honor" for a contract that was personally and whole-heartedly SIGNED ang nag-prevail sa mga issues nina Romeo and Garcia inthe past.

Marcial declined to delve into Chongson’s statements, only saying that rules of the D-League are the same as in the PBA, which has been in place for several years. “Hindi siguro niya alam ang rules ng PBA. It has been there for several years,” said Marcial.

I think it was more of a drunk tweet, but do you think may basis yung tweet nya?

***You may or may not answer this coach.

Below are the tweets from Allado.

I'm the guy that says what others can't. PBA games are fixed. They control who is in & out. It's a disgrace to be in this league.

I can accept losing to teams. But I can't accept losing bcoz of referees.

I am bitter about losing. Not to Powerade, but to PBA. In my opinion, this league has little credibility left.

Im in no position to confirm nor deny Allado's claim as i was more of a non-entity in the 2 years that i was a part of the Tanduay-PBA team back in 2000-2001..as compared to Allado's more than a decade stint as a PBA player.

Belo is a 21 year old promdi so i can't fault him for simply "following instructions". Why only now did he came up with a story about a supposedly "verbal agreement" that we had?? 2 weeks na itong issue na ito, why only now??

He even asked for our team practices schedule TWICE 2 weeks ago. First, from our team physical therapist and secondly, from ROI SUMANG..on the plane on their way back to Manila after attending the Maskara Festival in Bacolod. Obviously, he had all intentions of coming back to us up until 2 weeks ago.

Definitely he was coached..or most probably "bribed".

Belo's agent, Edgar Mangahas, is also partly subsidizing the M-Builders team. Kaya from M-Builders last year, they're now known as MJM-Builders. If i know wala namang kumpanyang MJM-Builders but M-Builders lang.

I wouldn't know who's ACTUALLY behind the breaching scam. What bothers me is Mark Molina stating that he believed Belo and the FEU management stands by and will support Belo. Does he mean support for breaching a signed contract?? Suportado ng FEU management ang ganung gawain??

If i know better, these people are just after the basketball aspect of this whole episode. Will whatever Belo claim (coached to claim) hold in court as compared to a signed document??

Allow me to make myself clear. As far as im concerned, i don't give a damn anymore whether Belo ever plays a single game for me or not. Mr. Bong Tan's marching order to me was to already MOVE ON from the Belo and Newsome thing, and that will also be my personal stand from now on. It will be so hard for me to work with a Stooge sitting on my bench.

Yeah. Sayang to see a good talent go to waste. I decided to give him a chance after some "heart to heart" talk. Can you imagine 12 D-League teams, with at least 4 of them the lousy-variety...wala man lang kumuha kay Aljon??

Probably its yung "word-of-mouth" about his attitude (selfish) and yung legendary-notion sa kanya of having a lazy practice habit. Pero ika nga eh talent is talent. Tsaka mala-St.

So far so good though. Ituloy niya lang sana yang magandang panimula niya. Malay natin eh yang pagbibigay natin ng pag-asa..eh ma-suklian naman din ng good vibes (and tuluy-tuloy na panalo)...at umpisa ng isang very fruitful na career para kay Aljon. God Bless Us.

I think oca was on target when he said, in an old post, that Aljon lacks motor and is not the type who will thrive in a main-man role. Napaka inconsistent ng effort nya when he was thrust in the leadership role. He did so much better nung supporting role siya. I feel Aljon will do well with a little more structure and a lot of push.

PASIG CITY – Tanduay Light banked on the torrid scoring of Aljon Mariano to get their third win in a row at the expense of Racal Motors Alibaba, 70-57, at the resumption of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena last Thursday (December 18). More importantly, the Rhum Masters of ironcoach further cemented their grip on Sixth Place with an even 4-4 win-loss card. Coach, the Lunar New Year is approaching as well!

In basketball related matters, Marqus Blakely is playing very well for Purefoods, averaging like 30 points and 15 rebounds per game in two wins thus far.

The guy who is really supposed to be their import - Dan Orton - is now in town, Blakely was a stopgap.

Heck of a stopgap though.

Question: If you were Coach Tim Cone, would you still replace Blakely with Orton?

A coach who has seen it all..a PBA head coach the past QUARTER OF A CENTURY..2-time PBA Grand Slam coach..and winningest coach in PBA history.

With those in his resume, sino pa bang nilalang sa buong Pilipinas ang may karapatang kumwestyon ng kahit na sa anong bagay na related sa basketball sa taong ito?

Maybe he knows (or nababasa niya) na Blakely isn't the long-term answer to their campaign for this particular conference. Nandyan pa down the road ang Talk N Text, RoS at Beermen.

Pupwede ring business ang dahilan as in maybe nakapag-bayad na ang kumpanya kay Orton at masasayang lang yon. At the same eh Blakely will be their import din naman sa susunod na conference..para hindi rin masyadong masunog. Alam mo naman ang mga imports kayod-marino for almost 48 minutes ang mga yan game-in and game-out unlike yung mga locals na kukuya-kuyakoy lang at supporting roles lang naman sa mga import-flavored conferences.

Lastly, pwede ring ang diskarte is isalang na si Orton habang maaga pa (and since 2-0 ang record) at ma-gauge. Kung mapapatunayan na hindi ito uubra, they can reinstate-recall Blakely parin naman.

In basketball related matters...

Hey Sam! Ikaw ang kauna-unahang nag-post dito sa thread ko for 2015...FEBRUARY 4, 2015 to be exact. For that, kindly allow me to gift you with a little token (ikaw narin nagpa-alala na malapit na ang Lunar/Chinese New Year). Let me know (pwede ring thru PM) of a comfortable address or location (huwag lang sa Mamasapano) where i can drop them off).

It had really been fun while it lasted.

More than 300 pages, more than 400,000 views, more than 3,000 replies...and umabot ng 4 years.

Coach, the San Sebastian staglet that won several championships was a constant steady source of talents for the UAAP, like Eric Salamat, Ryan Buenafe, Arvin Bringas among others. And of course Paul Lee.

How come they were not able to translate their success in UAAP to PBA. Not like Paul Lee whose game seems to be evolving and constantly improving. Maling team ba napuntahan nila Sa PBA? Or may kulang sa mindset when they moved to the next level?

Factors din dyan yung work ethics, attitudes and characters. But over and above it all, eh yung kanilang destiny o kapalaran. Just like where is Arvie Bringas now? Only 5 years ago he was the hottest high school prospect..on every college teams' radar. And after a fleeting stint in the D-League...eh parang naglaho nalang parang bula.

He was on my training team last year..promised to work his butt off and get back into game shape..but after only a couple of weeks, he went AWOL na. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

Ironcoach,

Apologies for not being very active on this thread. Four years old na rin yung youngest child ko - napaka-bilis nga ang panahon. Nagkikita tayo pa minsan minsan sa practice games niyo against Ateneo team A sa Moro pero hindi pa ako lumalapit sa inyo ng personal.

That being said, I'm looking forward to meeting you one of these days and sharing a bottle or two, mapa-beer or mapa-hard.

Thank you for being so candid and expressing your opinions on various basketball (and personal) topics.

Anyone out there with a sound suggestion on who will be able to replace Atty. Chito Salud as PBA Commissioner?

^^^ Coach, I ran into some TNT executives last night, and they said brothers Ogie and Chito Narvasa are being considered, but that the name on everyone's lips for now is the Big J, Sonny Jaworski. They said the PBA Board is coming up with a set of "criteria" in selecting the next Commish. Lord only knows what those will be.

I'd like to think the PBA will bring in someone with top leadership and management skills, a guy who knows how to run a corporation, because essentially that is what the PBA is now. PBA Commish = President/CEO. If he has a some background in basketball that would be great.

hi anthony! yes..we were able to sign Joseph Eriobu..and also picked-up free agent (undrafted in last September's rookie draft) Luigi De La Paz, previously of DLSU, and also Kim Lo of UST. we've also traded our rights on Leo De Vera and Choy Ignacio to newcomer Liver Marine in exchange for their 2nd round rookie draft pick next season (assuming may D-League pa).

RR De Leon of UE naman begged-off na to, according to him, focus on his studies and with his stint sa UE.

alam mo it just occurred to me..what if hayaan/ipaubaya ng 2 conglomerates ang pagpili/pag-appoint ng next commissioner..solely to Alaska, RoS, KIA and Blackwater.

That's a good idea Coach. In corporate parlance, they should abstain from voting due to conflict of interest.

Another solution would be to allow the conglomerates one vote each. Meaning SMC teams - one vote, MVP teams - one vote then Alaska, RoS, Kia and Blackwater.

Tignan na lang nila size-plus-skill-set ni Don, how on earth are Jeron and Almond better than Don?

Si Newsome depweds naman talaga, that silly passport-before-16 rule.

That Tab Baldwin is a joke. I don't think he has seen or had watched the D-League and the collegiate leagues enough times for him to be able to "master" those individual players that he selected.

They got Douthit as insurance naman kaya might as well just send a combination of Ateneo, San Beda and Hapee players + Douthit..eh sa bulok na ligang sasalihan (although qualifier itong SEABA)...sure win din naman yan no matter what.

bchoter
03-17-2015, 12:05 PM

Baka nga pwedeng the Top 11 high school all stars plus Douthit sure gold pa din tayo sa SEAG at SEABA.

coach, bakit nga ba si sol mercado hindi din tumatagal sa isang team? he's tough and has a nice touch inside and out naman. plus he's relatively got the bulk and size advantage relative to his position. so what gives?

as far as i know, hindi man lang yata na-imbitahan si Aljon. You wouldn't see his name listed in any of the press releases. Pero not being on the Sinag squad shouldn't be something to be bitter about also. When i brought Paul Lee to the Gilas practices right after he decided to skip his final year of collegiate eligibility, we were just given the runaround by the Gilas geniuses (excluding Toroman) as well.

Half a year later, he was selected with the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 PBA Rookie Draft. Ahead of the likes of Lutz, Lassiter, Barroca, Baracael and Ababou.

2 ways to look at it:

1) hard to handle siya. baka may attitude problem or hard to get along with.

2) mataas ang trade value niya for being, as you've said..tough player with a good inside & outside touch. and also the size to dominate sa position niya.

either of the 2 lang naman yan eh. unfair din para hulaan ko since i don't know Sol personally at never kaming nagkasama sa isang team.

i can't wait to see Calvin Abueva don the National colors for Team Gilas and compete in the FIBA-Asia and later on, in the FIBA World Cup. Sana nga mapasama siya so the whole world can get a glimpse of how a prototype homegrown Filipino basketeer can create havoc inside the basketball court and especially on the opponents nerves.

btw, salamat sa insights niyo coach re sa mga tanong ko. hopefully, you reconsider your planned exit from this thread next month :)

Coach nakita mo na sigurado 'yung in-add na 15 players to make up the 40 Greatest players ng PBA.

Tingin ko dapat nauna dun si Nelson Asaytono, ahead even of Jayson Castro, Marc Pingris, and James Yap.

for me from the start kasi flawed na yung sistema nila sa selection process. at sana isinama sa committee yung mga tulad nina andy jao, tommy manotoc, recah trinidad, ed piczon and tito talao..personalities that can have a better assessment sa pagpili.

yun nga given na yung guideline nila on former MVP's being shoo-ins..pero bakit kay JuneMar may asterisk? Kerby Raymundo over Asaytono or even Dennis Espino?? Seriously??!!!!

ewan ko ba. parati nalang synonymous sa anomalya o kapalpakan ang mga ganyang pangyayari sa atin. parang nagkakalokohan nalang eh. you just can't help but feel sorry for those who deserved it even more. the names asaytono, hawkins, tuadles, villamin, espino, victorino, king, mumar, soriano, estrada..yung mga legacy nila eh sa memorya nalang ng mga fans naka-tatak. sana mapag-kasya na nila yan.

The Best Player of the Conference Award for the ongoing conference has boiled down to a Jayson Castro-Paul Lee..either you or me..scenario. Jayson is ahead of Paul in the statistical race but there are still other determining factors that can still sway the tide in favor of the man tagged as "Ang Angas ng Tundo".

Either way would be a good choice as these 2 young dribblers had given tremendous contributions in bringing their teams to the championship round. To these 2 gladiators of the hardwood..may the best man win.

Although given his performance in the semis napakaganda din talaga ng pinakita ni Jayson Castro, he's the main reason TNT is back in the Finals.

Coach ano tingin nyio sa Chism-Johnson match? Sino llamado diyan?

All i know is that if RoS is to have a chance of upending TnT in a series..Chism averaging 17 pts and 9 boards won't be enough. Inspite of not averaging with monster numbers himself, Ivan Johnson has proven to be a crunchtime-bigtime operator.

1 aspect that should go Chism's way is yung familiarity sa PBA brand of play having been here before.

Coach kung ikaw ang PBA Commissioner, how would you deal with Ganuelas, Ibanez, and Quinahan after last night's near-free-for-all?

Who do you think was the primary instigator?

Would you impose sanctions on any of them? (Aside from all three getting ejected from the game in the imeediate aftermath.)

If so, what sanctions would you impose?

Kung ako lang ang commissioner: P50,000 fine each kina Rosser & Ibanes (no suspensions)..P20,000 each for those (as in lahat from players, staff, utilities, team officials, etc.) who entered the court "FROM THE BENCH", EXCLUDING Guiao & Uichico. Then P150,000 fine and suspended for the rest of this series for Quinahan.

Sana manalo si Paul Lee..at ang Rain Or Shine..in Game 6 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals today. Good Luck Paul! May the force be with you.

Well, what do you know? There indeed will be a Game 7! Thank God Hoops Scoops will close/end on a winning note. 

How many times was Paul Lee mentioned here in this thread for the past 4 years? Wow! He definitely played 1 hell of a cameo role here indeed. You can even say that, as a ball player..and as a person..he has grown/unraveled .. kasabay ng thread na ito.

Hoops Scoops will NEVER be what it is today..without you. Take a bow, guys!

well, paul lee wasn't able to win his championship ring tonight. double OT..and he even got a good look at a triple try in the dying seconds of the 1st OT..but as fate would have it..he'll need some more time to snatch that elusive title.

good effort though..riding on a career-high 38 pts. it just wasn't meant to be.
