Buzzer just sounded. A solid win for the Blazers. :D

70-64.

I just saw the game on live telecast. The young guards are impressing me quite a lot here: Quick transition defense, quick feet and long arms. Good shooting effort but has to stop settling for the long bombs when higher percentage looks are available. Particularly rookie guard Carlo Lastimosa who is living up to the hype, and the seemingly more focused co-captain Mark De Guzman who have also developed a great perimeter game. The other new recruits are also contributing quite well.

I'm just hoping the bigs like Tim McCoy (who's trying to do too much on offense and too less on defense), Jan Tan (butterfingers), and veteran Manalc to step up big on the next games.

Great recruits and decision for Coach Richard del Rosario to completely revamp the team and retain only those who have heart in this team. No more distractions.

p.s. those alley-oops from De Guzman to Lastimosa must have been practiced a lot ;)

Faith in the Flame! Animo Benilde! :)

Nakakatawa, dahil 3 beses pa nila ginawa na halos identically. Yung huli pa through AU's defense. ;D

These 2 guards can really fill in where Morial left off, dont you think? De Guzman has improved from last year where he was seen only as a flashy ball handler who cant really shoot.

May tendency kasi dati yan maging ballhog pero natuto na rin sa sistema ni Coach Richard yan. Role player at go-to-guy na natin plus si Lastimosa. All we need now is an improvement kina Tan, Ongtenco at McCoy. Medyo mainitin ulo nitong si Ongtenco pero may kinabukasan din yan dahil may mga nasupal yata siya! ;D

Si McCoy disappointing kahapon. I was really impressed watching him from Season 84. He's bulked up, pero I fear he's trying to do too much on offense. Tapos kulang sa awareness on D.

Thanks Big Cat! I'm not so sure about our chances with the Knights since their intensity in Defense is truly intimidating. We will have to work extra hard in setting up offensive plays and try to match the same intensity that the Knights are known for. As for the rest of the teams, let's just try to win one game at a time. Ayoko din pangunahan masyado at baka ma-jinx agad. ;)

And I'm sorry to hear that your Red Cubs lost due to another uniform violation. I think your coaching staff in the Lions' & Cubs' Den should try to avoid repeating the same mistakes and try to inspect your wardrobe because the rules are strictly enforced. We're on the same boat when it comes to uniform violations since it happened to us before and in other sports like chess besides that classic LSGH uniform violation. :-\

Well I like that because he is playing it with the strength of the Blazers. As for being a shooting team, this can open the inside for our undersized big men to operate when the defense concentrates too much on our shooters.

Hopefully the Blazers can score an upset against the Bombers. They can easily limit our shooters with their perimeter defense and the only way we can go beyond Etame is through constant motion offense or drop-passes. I hope Jan Tan lessens the butterfingers too!

Great Defense, Perimeter Shooting, Big Time Hustle is what the Blazers need!! We only lost to JRU by 2 in the Filoil when they used Etame and Njei simultaneously so CSB has a good chance.

Hey guys, I was able to catch part of the 3rd quarter until the end. All I can say is that the big men have yet to show up. Jan Tan, Alex Wong, and Robbie Manalac were all disappointments. Still they were not able to finish erstwhile easy buckets. Tim McCoy have yet to get back into his full form and Ian Dela Paz still were not able to finish some baskets but were still much better than the eyesore which was the first 3 mentioned. We lost because of rebounding and allowing all those second chance points. Plus we were not able to convert on those (relatively few compared to JRU's) free throws. We had a chance but we missed on all openings to strike.

The lone real bright spot was our backcourt, which I really believe we can build around. Mark De Guzman and Carlo Lastimosa plus shooters like Sinco and Nayve can well serve us in the following years to come. Kelangan lang ibolster yung frontcourt natin dramatically.

I'm not feeling well so I'm not gonna say much. Flat performance by the Blazers with just a few spurts of runs here and there. Lastimosa and De Guzman were not able to sustain and momentum was lost to EAC's treys and then we tried to answer back but kept missing. Hope the Blazers learn from this. Faith in the Flame!

Lastimosa shoulde be benched next game and let the coaches and team show him what "teamwork" means. Masyadong "kanya-kanya" ang style niya. He isn't his uncle Jojo and should develop a team concept of play .... his height isn't going to help him much with his incursions. He has been scouted and EAC showed how to defend against him. Overrated.

De Guzman is a more cerebral player and should have been kept more in the game than Lastimosa.

Get our Bigs practicing fundamental lay-ups for 3 hours, where all lay-ups are made or go back counting from zero. McCoy and Tan missed lay-ups yesterday which should have been sure goals. It happened versus JRU also.

You have a legit point there, but I also think the refs were too hesitant to give Lastimosa calls whenever he drives to the basket. A few times where there were obvious contact but the no-call. De Guzman is an all-around player and is really impressive to watch but needs more consistency, same with Lastimosa. Mc Abolucion, on the other hand has to play more like a vet and stop making rookie mistakes. He has to suck it up and be the court general for the Blazers, a role De Guzman cant fill if he also has to be the primary scorer alongside Lastimosa.

Actually I think McCoy is struggling to get his form back, because he was a terrific post player back with PCU in '84. Jan Tan, not so much. Dati nang butterfingers in the paint e. Dela Paz and McCoy would be okay, konting work lang. Robbie Manalac and Tan are more like awful stretch-4's.

Hay nako, can't say enough about the Blazers in their game against the EAC Generals. Ang dami din hesitations on their part from the 1st quarter. Medyo nakahabol at lumamang pa sila kaso kinulang nanaman sa TEAMWORK sabay pumutok yung Vargas for EAC. At siyempre nakatulong din ang kapalpakan ni Lastimosa! Tama mag-lay up practice muna mga bigs at ang daming sinayang na points! Mukhang may baon pa sila after their loss against the Bombers. Dapat mawala na mga daga sa system nila! >:(

HELL WEEK is here! SSC, Letran, at ang darkhorse team that is MIT. Isa lang mantra natin, ONE MIRACLE WIN AT A TIME! Hopefully Coach Richard will whip these boys into better players as the season continues. Depensa lang ng depensa at darating din ang offense sa kanila as the coach would reiterate plus to get their heads into the game!

Best of luck to us next week!

Good point re the officiating - it was a little biased towards EAC. In the first quarter, fouls were 5-0 wherein the Blazers had 5 fouls at least, EAC none - Impossible!! Anyone watching the game would know the refs had non-calls all quarter. EAC committed at least one foul, the most glaring being when an EAC player held Sinco on the neck shoulder area during an inbound, Sinco got pulled backwards, but no call.

Re Lastimosa, good point that he wasn't getting calls but then he should've adjusted and set up his teammates for assists. Sharing the ball was the Blazers major problem vs. EAC. In the Arellano U. and JRU games, Blazers assist total was 21. Against EAC, it was 11.

Learn, accept and adjust. I think the team will learn from all this.

Muntikan pa natin matalo SSC. And it's all because Birthday Boy Coach Ato wanted to experiment with his 2nd and 3rd stringers after posting a 15-point lead going into the last 2 minutes of the game. It's a good thing for them that Lastimosa fouled out. Sayang nga lang at 4 points ang natirang lamang ng Baste dahil masaya sana na umabot ng OT ang game.

Hopefully they can do better against the Knights on wednesday!

The Knights took the fight out of the Blazers from the start of the 3rd quarter. We were trailing by as much as 6 points when all of a sudden, turnovers were piling up. Abolucion was giving away too many turnovers as he crossed the half-court. No second-chance points, low field-goal percentage, and everyone was fumbling with lay-ups and freethrows. Lastimosa was at his worst since their game against the Generals. De Guzman was our only shining beacon but the rest didn't step up to help him. Oh well, I expect another blowout from the Cardinals this friday and I'm hoping they can end playing "catch-up ball" with their opponents. TRAIL BLAZERS na talaga dapat tawag sa atin!

We never left reality. ;) We know that this year we are back to 0 in terms of competing, given that all our main guys who carried the load last year (escpecially Morial) have graduated. Last year I can say we are comparable to the Toronto Raptors, with a little more than a hail-mary chance to get into the playoffs but didnt win when it mattered. At least we can say that we also ran. This year naman, we are the post-Bosh Raptors. Do youy get the picture? :)

We can only to hope to snag up a few wins while developing our recruits (Dela Paz, De Guzman and Lastimosa) while trying to put other pieces into the puzzle.
Winning, in turn, could also help us big time in scoring more recruits. Diba?

About the game, I saw the game live at The Arena because I was in Ortigas and decided to swing by. Disappointing for the most part of the second quarter although they finished it strong, trailing by 8. Manageable. Third quarter was a nightmare, with a lot of turnovers like in the first half due to not having a good press-break. As in puro TO. Tama rin kayo, no rebounds=no 2nd chance points. Alex Wong is duck once again, missing a lot of gimmes, not defending the paint well, and failing to grab boards. Dela Paz pwede na, pero kulang parin as interior presence. Medyo madami din mintis sa ilalim. These 2 forwards, including Tim McCoy should really step up soon. De Guzman did not play his A game pero solid performance parin. Lastimosa once again was forcing things, pero on the open court malakas talaga silang dalawa. they can also force a few tipped passes leading to transition points.

My 2 words to Coach Richard if we are to have any crack at Letran in the second round: PRESS BREAK.

If you look at the statistics, Benilde has 2 players above +15 Effeciency rating as of now. Lastimosa is league-wide top 5 in points, assists, and steals. De Guzman is top 10 in assists blocks and steals. but it's no surprise that De Guzman is the best player on our team (+17) and Carlo comes in at close second with (+15.8). No question these 2 guards can play, have tons of potential, and we would be building around them for the next few years. Aside from the two, only two other players are playing decent ball, bigs Dela Paz and McCoy (at around +7 each). Then the rest are all playing below +5. That's not a good sign, but it is evident regardless of the stats that only these 4 players have really shown up to play in every game. The two big men have still some improvements to make, and then the rest would have to look themselves in the mirror and man up, or ship out at the end of the season. This team is loaded with potential by needs to show more heart.

Pretty good game, huh. Im glad the veterans (Manalac, Abolucion) finally showed up, including second year player Jan Tan. Carlo Lastimosa had a stellar game although some penetration shots should have trickled in (mga lumalabas pa e!), including that transition 3 to force OT. Serious nerves. Kaya lang kinapos parin tayo sa huli. Makes me think na sa 6 games, once palang nagsabay na good game pareho si Lastimosa and De Guzman, which was our solitary win.

I hope the boys continue to show up every game like this one, especially the vets. nababagalan parin ako sa development/adjustment ng bigs like Dela Paz, McCoy, and (especially) Alex Wong. I dont question the intensity pero kelangan ng follow though on both ends. We had a few chances at it but we missed once again. Pero the difference between this year and the years before is the potential we can definitely see from the boys. Follow through lang sana onto results in the hardcourt pa.

i understand how hard it is to break a press break if the wing men are not struggling to get out out of being denied by their defenders. i believe coach richard pointed that out as well. though of course, point guards really has the major role ifa team commits a turnover. but what i heard from other forums and mga kwentong kalye.. what we really lack is the front court. we are the worst rebounding team in the league. as in worst. and no threat inside. there was one game that the team only had 25 rebounds, 12 of which came from the guards. amazing di ba.

kainis. no post threats for csb.

injury report, abolucion sprained both his feet. yung right, matagal na eh, punit yung soft tissue. he chose to play through the pain for a couple of games... then yung sa left, kanina lang sa practice.

Ahura & ladyballer - I think CSB doesn't want to risk academic deficiencies compared to NU. But since he lacked a good command of the english language, the coaching staff should've done something about it. Oh well, hopefully we can recruit a big man that can complement or do better than JDG.

Thank you for the holiday and I was able to watch a CSB game for the first time (on TV nga lang). Good thing they won and pulled away in the 4th quarter just as when Argel Mendoza was starting to wax hot from the perimeter.

I was impressed with Lastimosa's offensive moves. The kid can really score. Buti na lang and Sinco delivered when EAC has been putting Milan Vargas to mark Carlo. Mark De Guzman was a bit slow yesterday but still effective. Mas mabilis siya when I saw him play for the RP Youth team two years ago.

I like also Jan Tan. He's what I can describe as a utility big man since he is not that flashy but brings a lot to the table. In his offense, he effectively uses his long arms to make baby hook shots in the middle and has a good defensive acumen. Nakarami siya ng blocks in yesterday's game.

If only they can blend consistently, I thought CSB could have won more games than what their standing reflects at this point. Ian Dela Paz played well also yesterday. Making shots from the low post. Maganda combination nila ni Tan because when Dela Paz creates in the low block, puedeng receiver niya si Tan on the opposite side when the defense collapses on Dela Paz.

Michael Pate of LSGH can be a good addition to CSB next year.

Thank you sa pic sir joe, Mark was able to make 2 steals and 2 fastbreaks in their game against JRU but unfortunately they were outgunned and outrebounded again. But I see a bright future for our resident Batman and Robin tandem players.

I hope they can bounce back and exact revenge against Letran. They have to mature and learn faster every game. By next season, it will be tougher with teams parading new foreign recruits and CSB parading a 6'11 "project" center. Nayve has shown flashes of brilliance in shooting but he has a long way to go. And I do hope they get a wildcard slot in the PCCL! ;)

Sadly he is qualified for ROY this season. But I think he has some stats in terms of steals and assists (although small) so I guess he has more room for improvement. Sana lang matuto siya kay Kevin Alas who recently taught him how to drive and dish to seal the 2nd round win against the Blazers. You can verify Carlo's stats in ncaa.org.ph. ;)
