Hi!

We all know that San Beda College did a splendid job in hosting Season 85. As we gear towards Season 86, lets formulate a discussion and observation/s how SSCR is doing...

Will SSCR meet the expectations of all NCAA AFICIONADOS?

Peace to all who would post a comment...

NCAA sticks it out with Del Rosario
By Jasmine W. Payo

MANILA, Philippines—Aric Del Rosario returns as commissioner of the NCAA basketball tournament when the league’s 86th season fires off on June 26 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Management Committee chair Frank Gusi of host San Sebastian College announced Del Rosario’s appointment Monday along with San Sebastian president and league board chair Fr. Anthony Morillo, OAR.

Del Rosario, who also served as commissioner when San Beda College was host last year, is best remembered for steering University of Santo Tomas to numerous UAAP crowns, including four straight from 1993 to 1996.

San Sebastian kicks off its bid for a second straight crown against Letran College, while San Beda takes on Jose Rizal University in the opening twin bill. Mapua INstitite of Technology collides with University of Perpetual Help while Arellano University tangles with Emilio Aguinaldo College the next day at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Siya pa rin ang commissioner come Season 86.

Damn! What an opening! ;D Grabe ang dami ng tao! 20,000 daw! Nice!

I must say that opening is probably THE BEST AND THE BIGGEST CROWD ATTENDANCE IN NCAA for ages!

Yan ang opening! All out! Hindi kinukuripot! :D

Really? Kaya pala nung game 2 ang daming nabakanteng seats. :D Halos naubos yung north side ng Araneta. ;D

But I'm sure marami ang Sebastinians: http://twitgoo.com/15edti The important thing is naging successful yung opening.

And I'm definitely sure by a mile it's the best and the biggest crowd turnout in the NCAA opening for ages.

Remember 20,000!

We're the 1st one to break the spell of low crowd support in the NCAA. :D

BRAVO!

Huh!

You do a once in a year event and you mimic a noontime variety show?

one of the biggest crowd attendance. no doubt about that. kaso too much entertainment yung ginawa. nagmukha tuloy variety show. akala ko nga ASAPxv at Party Pilipinas yung pinapanood ko eh. ;D

NCAA cagefest opens with a bang

Games Sunday (The Arena, San Juan)
10 a.m. — Mapua vs Perpetual (Jrs)
12 noon — Arellano vs EAC (Jrs)
2 p.m. — Mapua vs Perpetual (Srs)
4 p.m. — Arellano vs EAC (Srs)

Amid the bright lights, the awe-inspiring numbers by showbiz stars and the high-tech production that kicked off the grand opening of the 86th NCAA season at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, Atty. Judy Lardizabal, the event's guest speaker, reminded the overflowing crowd the essence why they were gathered.

“Battle can be won and lost with dignity,” said Lardizabal, referring to the games that will be played by nine teams in the new season of the country's oldest collegiate league hosted by San Sebastian.

The 2008 Bar topnotcher from SSC also likened the battle for supremacy in the collegiate wars to her journey when she was preparing for the bar exams.

“Although we are aiming for the top, we should not forget to set aside our difference for the common good,” Lardizabal said in front of thousands of students who wore their school colors.

The expensive opening ceremony, hosted by SSC for the sixth time since it joined the league in 1969, featured many showbiz personalities, including Kris Lawrence, J-R, John Prats, and Billy Crawford, who dazzled the crowd with his signature song “Bright Lights.”

Two exciting matches firing off hostilities were being played at presstime as defending champion San Sebastian College was playing Letran and last year’s runner-up San Beda College was facing Jose Rizal University.

Meanwhile, Emilio Aguinaldo College and Arellano University, the league’s two new members, test each other's mettle in a 4 p.m. game this Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.

Mapua and Perpertual, on the other hand, also debut in a 2 p.m. encounter.

EAC coach Nomar Isla will not field in this Sunday Malaysian-Chinese import Wei Lim, a veteran of the Penang Basketball Association (PBA) in Malaysia, whose stint is put in question by the NCAA.

Kasi ang Baste all out para sa ikagaganda ng NCAA.

Bakit ba masyado kayo affected? Karamihan ng mga nagrereact o mga bedista! ;D

And successful naman ang naging opening.

And you guys can't deny the fact na malaki ang naitulong nung mga artista to attract a lot of people to watch this year's opening.

I don't see anything wrong sa paginvite sa mga artists if it is for the betterment of the league. And it turned successful. I don't know what's the fuse about. Palibhasa nilangaw kasi yung opening niyo last season. Envy! :D Compared sa dami ng tao na nanood this year, 20,000! walang wala yung audience niyo last year. ;D

Oh well mas gusto niyo pa yata yung opening na may mga baklang nakasabit sa ere. ;D BTW 4m yung ginastos nyo last year diba? It's hard to believe! Alin dun yung 4m?

Oh well! Pero it turned out good. Oh well! :D

Hey lion! It's been a long time! What's up? ;D

Anyway back on topic. Since San Sebastian is the host. I can say that our school will give credit to where it is due. All the big games will be held on Araneta. If not, at the very least the final 4 will be on Araneta. Damn! Can't believe the f4 last year was not held on Araneta! :D

Also I wonder why are bedans so affected with the opening yesterday? :D

I will tell you why bedans are so affected.
Because lots of bedans went (take note: NAGPUNTA) to araneta to watch the openning and support the red lions.
They sacrificed time and money just to get to arenata,
for what an ASAP type of openning number.

Kung sa TV nalang sana nanuod.

20,000 audience?
baka naman ticket sales lang yun!

Congrats pa din sa BASTE!!!!

There are no regular Monday games scheduled for this season because there's NO coverage AGAIN on Mondays. So in effect, we'll have an unnecessarily long season with games only on Wednesdays and Fridays.

So the question now is why our good host allowed this to happen after SBC worked so hard last year to get 3 times a week coverage?

So kahit may monday games pa aabot at aabot yan up to late september or early october at talagang mas mauuna matapos ang UAAP sa NCAA.

Baste did a poor job in negotiating with ABS-CBN with respect to television broadcast of the games opinion ko lang naman ito. Last yearna gawa g SBC na magkaroon ng Monday games di naman nagkaroon ng problema I guess other school host can do the same..due diligence lang ang kailangan.

Ticket sales? do you have the numbers to show that monday games yielded poor ticket sales last year..ilagay mo ang Baste, SBC, Letran..at JRU every monday eh malamang hindi magkaka problema sa ticket sales.

Ano ko ticketnet? ;D

Napanood mo naman siguro yung gate attendance every monday last year and nung other seasons. It's up to you to believe it or not. But just like what I said yun yung dahilan.

Ngayon ko lang nabasa yung ibang comments.

About dun kay Kyla. Anyway sige granting that's true.

If I'm not mistaken nung last 2 seasons before your hosting. I think JRU and CSB ang host. Ang f4 nilaro sa Araneta.

Pero nung kayo sa Arena lang. Walang budget?! :D Grabe pa naman yung mga press release niyo before the start of the season. :D

Ang laki ng budget niyo sa opening. Sabi niyo 4m diba? :D

October 23 -- nag-concert si Akon sa Araneta. Concerts like that are booked months in advance. Set-up and disassembly of stages take at least 24 hours of round-the-clock work. That makes October 22-24 off-limits to any other activity, including basketball games. Kaya wala ring PBA sa Araneta on Oct 23, which was a Friday. Add to that the postponement of major events, including games, due to Tropical Storm Ondoy, and it's easy to see why schedules got screwed up.

It simply shows that entertainers are there to spice up the event... :o

[b]Pero gusto ko lang malaman bakit nga ba yung f4 last year hindi sa Araneta nilaro?! ;D

If I'm not mistaken nung last 2 seasons before your hosting. I think JRU and CSB ang host. Ang f4 nilaro sa Araneta.

Pero nung kayo sa Arena lang. Walang budget?! :D Grabe pa naman yung mga press release niyo before the start of the season. :D

Ang laki ng budget niyo sa opening. Sabi niyo 4m diba? :D [/b/

And lastly don't get too offended kung napuna ko yung hosting niyo last year. ;)

Last na talaga to! ;D

BTW, I am not from any NCAA school. :)

So your point is?

Well first and foremost I have to tell you, get your facts straight! The f4 last year was scheduled Oct. 16 and 19. So ang tanong bakit hindi sa Araneta nilagay ang mga games na to?

Walang budget? :D

And guess what! Coincidentally Oct. 22-24? Just like what you said Araneta is off limits for other events. It's just that it's the other way around. ;D Well FYI the finals date of NCAA last year was Oct. 22 and 24? What the?! I thought it's off limits? :D

So since your not a bedan. I'll let bedans answer this. Bakit nga hindi nilagay ang f4 sa Araneta last year? Grabe iniiwasan talagang sagutin?

Walang budget?! :D ;D

Aba, oo nga ano. My mistake. Mukhang hindi natuloy ang concert ni Akon on those dates and the Araneta was available for the Finals on those dates. Happy? :)

Mistake having been admitted, though, may iba pa ring gumamit ng Araneta on October 16. There were PBA games between Smart Gilas and Burger King (with the infamous Arboleda incident), TNT and Rain or Shine, and Santa Lucia and Coke. October 19, hindi ko alam, although I'd say it would've been blocked out for the Basia concert on October 21 (and all the preparation a concert of that magnitude entails).

Again, events like the PBA are scheduled way in advance. Traditionally, the PBA plays Friday games at the Araneta, except when other events are booked there. The NCAA had to re-schedule some games due to Tropical Storm Ondoy, which led to the Final Four being played at a later date than originally planned.

BTW, what's wrong with a non-Bedan giving opinions contrary to yours? May oras ako magbasa at magresearch and I chose to post the reasons above just to give another angle.

Brother-Bedans,

I can relate and sympathize with all our misgiving re the change in venue for the finals. Araneta is more convenient to our likings and expectations, e.g. parking, after-game powwows et al.

But does it really matter where we will win back our crown?

Let's make do with whatever is brought before us. Our primary focus remains to be the double championship in basketball this NCAA season.

Animo!

The opposition is trying to contain the possibility of an all San Beda affair in a huge area like Araneta. We can fill Araneta to the rafters if they want to. but no. That image of an ALL RED affair will only be good to San Beda, o so they assume. Rather than give San Beda another avenue to exercise it's supremacy, they would rather contain the inevitable in a small venue to limit the impact of the RED ARMY'S FULL SPECTRUM DOMINANCE.

SORRY NCAA, WE ARE TRULY PEERLESS IN THIS LEAGUE. :D

But of course. It is easier for them to force their captive students to watch games during school days. Make it a requirement, a part of their attendance, and give bonus points.

This is to trick the naive and create an impression of competition against the RED ARMY.

Do this on a weekend, then their hakot power will diminish against the Bedan onslaught. The RED ARMY is peerless. Only this small school from Mendiola can muster the warm bodies on any given day. SMB!

JRU 'Quarantines' Players Fear of game-fixers prompts moveBy FRANCIS SANTIAGOOctober 7, 2010, 6:59pmGames Friday (The Arena, San Juan)
2 p.m. — SSC vs JRU (Srs)

MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Jose Rizal University basketball team have been disconnected from the outside world in a bid to head off game-fixing in the ongoing playoffs in the 86th National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Since Sunday, the Heavy Bombers are housed in condominium units near the school and are barred from contacting anyone, including relatives.

Sources said cell phones and laptops were confiscated and Internet access denied.

Friends and relatives waited for nearly an hour outside The Arena in San Juan Wednesday night, but failed to get near or talk with any member of the team.

After their 60-54 win over the Mapua Cardinals, the Bombers were ushered quickly to the school bus.

The players themselves were surprised by the move, according to one of the girlfriends who asked not to be named.

“It’s very frustrating,” she said. “I thought he (boyfriend) was just joking about this whole situation, but when a team aide approached us and showed a bag full of their cell phones, I knew this situation will take long.”

The “quarantine” was prompted by suspicions that one of the players was involved in game-fixing during the eliminations.

The source did not identify the player who escaped team sanctions.

Reached for comment, Jose Rizal official Paul Supan downplayed the report.

“It’s a normal process especially when you are in the playoffs,” Supan said. “Medyo naghigpit kami sa pagamit ng cell phone pero hindi naman naging bawal ang pag-contact sa mga kapamilya.”

Game-fixing has been a perennial problem for the NCAA which in the past has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

There were arrests made in 2007, but the case did not prosper and was eventually dismissed.

The playoffs resume this Friday with the Bombers taking on defending champion San Sebastian College at The Arena in San Juan for the right to face idle San Beda College in the finals.

The Stags are favored to win over the Bombers, whom they’ve beaten in the eliminations twice this season.

But the Bombers looked impressive in their playoff win over the Cardinals at the start of the stepladder semifinals.

San Beda gained an outright Finals berth after eking out an unprecedented 16-game sweep of the eliminations. The Lions also hold a thrice-to-beat advantage, equivalent to an outright 1-0 lead in the best-of-five finals.

Ano ba yan!

Walang cellphones.

^ Danny, why don't you write the Rector of your former school and inquire why a jueteng lord is always seated behind their team bench. ;D

With Baste as both the Host and a finals contender, the NBI should now enter the picture.

The alleged jueteng lords will be all over.

Give us Araneta and we will give the NCAA the spectacle that it needs. ONLY THE RED ARMY, ONLY THE RED LIONS, ONLY SAN BEDA CAN MAKE THE NCAA LOOK GOOD. REDemption. :D
