Leo Isaac will be the next head coach of Red Bull next conference. With that, he will most likely leave his post as coach of the Mapua Cardinals.

this takes away a problem which Leo Isaac would have probably faced if Arellano was accepted by the NCAA as it's new member. Isaac would have been forced to choose between his Alma Mater Mapua or his Champion Arellano team. ;D

But there are a lot of ex-Cardinals who can come in. WHo do you think it should be?

bring back coach horacio. he's a hardcore coach. he is a constant final 4 coach with just limited support from the school. Imagine what he can do with these years line up?

Hahaha.. Frustrate and delay tactic. Sayang. Mapua and JRU I think were the only team to have beaten SBC twice last season. So sayang talaga..

Koy Banal will be much better to take the post and bring back the glory days of Mapua during the 90's.

Confirmed na ba yan?

Kung siya na nga, with the proper support in terms of recruitment, the Cardinals should do well.

Cardinals picked Ercito Victolero as new coach
by Student Athlete ~ March 2nd, 2009

Leo Isaac, wonít be calling shots for the Mapua Cardinals in the 85th NCAA Basketball season. Isaac, who guided Mapua to a consecutive final four finish in his two season as bench tactician will now coach Barako Bulls of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), replacing Coach Yeng Guiao.

Mapua Tech Assistant Athletic Director Carlito Geronimo is very optimistic about Isaacís replacement, Ercito Victolero.

Ercito Victolero was a point guard for the Cardinals from 1992 to 1996. After graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1996, he shot hoops for the AMA Team in the Philippine Basketball Legue (PBL) as an amateur cager. His stint latyer on flourished, playing in the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBL) and PBA wherein he was also given the priviledge to be part of the Philippine National Team in 2000-2001. After his stint, he switched his gears to coaching, handling various teams including PBLís San Mic Coffee and other collegiate and provincial squads. Victolero is also assisting Coach Koy Banal of Magnolia Pure Water in PBL.

Victoleroís plan is to balance the Cardinalís offensive and defensive ends. Chito also wants to emphasize discipline and hard work, in and out of the court.

Coach Ercito works alongside fellow Mapuan Efren Garcia on defense, Mapua Red Robinís head coach Randy Alcantara on offense, and Marlon Celiz in the squadís physical conditioning.

What lies ahead for the Cardinals? With the absense of Neil Pascual, Ian Mazo and Alaska Acesí Kelvin Dela Pen, Coach Chito Victolero is relying on the hands of fourth year veterans TG Guillermo, Mark Anthony Acosta and Paul Alexis Cinco to lead the team. Guillermon, the Cardinalís new Team Captain, beleives in Coach Victoleroís coaching style. Vice Captain Acosta salutes their new mentorís unique coaching techniques.

Last year ni Victolero noong 1990 along with Albert Ramas and Bong Marasigan. Ang starting point guard ng Mapua in 1991 was Gary Topacio and was backed up by Robin Mendoza look-a-like guard named Ronquillo.

Good luck to the new coach!

Yes, Banal is recovering from ACL pero I doubt he'll be able to play this season. As for Mangahas, he'll play.

Regarding the PCU players, some of them tried-out. I don't know if they'll be able to make the cut.

Base on what I see during training, Victolero is doing a good job.
