The Ynares Arena is a perfect venue for PBL games. Good air-conditioning, accessible, enough seats and plenty of place to eat. The management just have to improve on one important thing---security. I didn't see any security guard in the vicinity. Although entrance is free, we still have to put premium on this. I saw Fortune being harassed by a fan after the game, asking him to give his headband.

The teams are wel-balanced. Although, I think Harbour still has the deepest bench and would still be the favorite to win the title. Plenty of good rookies. I thought Hapee would be a very weak team, after the departure of their star players. But Coach Abanilla got some good rookies. What they need right now is a strong back-up for Jervy Cruz in the middle. Bacchus would be one of the strong contenders with muscle men Daryoa and Fortune plus the UE core.

Shooter pala si Vanlandingham. Kala ko pogi lang kaya kinuha ng Hapee, hehe. Pagpasok ni Tiu dalawa na silang glamour boys para sa Hapee, pareho pang shooter.

Masu-suspend ba si Villamin after being thrown-out during their last game?

Question lang:

Why is the PBL not open to the public when the games are held in JRU? Pumunta ko kanina to watch sana but the person there told me that only JRU students are allowed to watch. >:( ???

Nope. Ako kasi dere-derecho lang at hindi na nagtanong sa guard. But it could be a blessing in disguise for you. The venue was small, crampy, jampacked and oven-hot. With plenty of hard-headed people standing at courtside blocking the view of the people in the gallery.

Harbour-Magnolia

Harbour had a "break" from the refs on this game. Right before the last 2 minutes and magnolia up by 4, Juntilla drove through heavy traffic and was blocked by Raneses. However he was bailed out by the refs and Raneses was called for a foul. And not only that, Raneses was given a Technical even if his act of complaining was very tame. It resulted in his 5th foul. So not only did Magnolia lose it's hottest player for the game, Juntilla made 4 shots and Baroca converted on their possession. It was a 6 point swing that demoralized Magnolia and totally changed the complexion of the game.

Harbour Centre-FEU defeated Burger King-San Beda, 83-70.

Harbour started the game strong. Capitalizing on BK's miscues and converting them into fastbreak points. Harbour led by as many as 24 points in the 1st half. Veterans Reed Juntilla and Rico Maierhoffer led the Batang Pier's charges with 18 and 11 points respectively.

Burger King tried to comeback in the 3rd quarter narrowing the lead to just only 4 points at the closing stages in the 3rd. Ogie Menor scored a game-high 20 points (14 in the 1st half). Jason Ballesteros and Marcy Arellano scored in double figures. Jake Pascual had 6 points and 3 blocks ( 1 each on Cervantes, Maierhoffer & Asoro).

Harbour Centre played like a well-oiled machine today and remained unbeaten.

^ Harbour Centre started off strong going up by as much as 31-10 in the opening period and survived one hell of a third period rally by Burger King to cruise to the win. Red-hot shooting from three-point range by Marcy Arellano and JR Tecson brought the Stunners within 53-56 lat in the third period. But the Batang Pier recovered their bearings soon enough behind the shooting of Reed Juntilla and the play-making of Boyet Bautista to once again gain separation at 65-53 early in the payoff fourth period. A mess of turnovers ensured that Burger King would not threaten Harbour Centre again.

Pharex must be wondering what the heck is going on with them. For the fourth game in a row they played great basketball over the first three periods and then inexplicably collapsed in the end-game to yield to Bacchus Energy Drinks by eight. Going to their transition, early offense and high-low plays, the Generics went up by as much as 11 points late in the first half. Chris Ross was a one-man fastbreak; Don Villamin was having great success running the two-man game with Ronnie Matias; Ian Saladaga was breaking down the Bacchus 2-3 zone with his slithering drives inside. They still stayed ahead for the better part of the third period. In the fourth period Pharex just seemed to forget how to play defense as Bacchus went to their UE connection of Paul Lee, Pari Llagas, James Martinez and Val Acuna. Llagas controlled the inside, Martinez sniped and slashed, Acuna and Lee were everywhere else. By the time it was all over Martinez sneaked in one last layup for the final count.

Can we attribute this to conditioning and pacing? Ross seems to disappear in the 4th quarter. Pharex should make full use of their bench.

Bacchus beat Burger King, 68-54.

Sa tingin ko lalo pang nakasama yung 3 mid-season additions ni coach Allan Gregorio. Veterans Khiel Misa, Abby Santos and Nestor David were not in cohesion with the other players as the team itself struggled for chemistry. Nestor David looked bloated and was obviously out of shape. But still Gregorio gave heavy minutes to the veterans.

As a result of the additions of the veterans, Dave Marcelo and Bam Gamalinda was not fielded.

Bacchus was spearheaded by Patrick Cabahug, Paul Lee and Rudy Lingganay.

Misa was a decent addition for the Stunners to give way to the loss of Borgie Hermida yun nga lang di pa talaga magkapaan ang mga bagong players sa mga bagong teammates nila.

Meanwhile, Harbour is on the verge of winning its eighth consecutive game, they are leading Hapee by a mile.

The PBL used to be aired on Studio 23. But as long as Chino is the commissioner and he is identified with Solar, don't expect the PBL to move back to 23. The games at 23 didn't do as well as the UAAP and NCAA kaya lumipat sa Solar ang PBL. ABS also made the PBL opening too much of a showbiz event by inviting sexy stars to dance in the opening.

There was even a time when the PBL opening was shown on ASAP '08, Channel 2's noontime show.
