i just can't understand why malaysia, hongkong, kuwait and uzbekistan are ahead of us in the rankings. these teams are easy preys for our national squad. one more thing, why in the hell are qatar, chinese taipei, lebanon, japan jordan and kazhakstan way above us in the rankings. they are 20 notches(or more) over us. we are at par or even better than those countries.

on paper, maybe yes, but those rankings are based on solid data for the past few years..remember that we did not do too well in the FIBA Asia Championships. Lebanon finished 2nd in that tourney, Qatar, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei placed ahead of us.

While China did place after us in that tourney, they had more than enough points to cushion that debacle, i.e. prior qualification to Olympics and World Championships. As to Hong Kong, Kuwait and Uzbekistan, I dont know but my guess is the criteria for the rankings included the time when we were suspended from FIBA competitions

The FIBA rankings are based on a four year cycle. And since the Philippines was banned for almost two years, we have two years of non-participation dragging down our rank.

why is the seaba, sea games and asian games not included in the tournaments that are used for the ranking system. isn't it that when we got suspended, we were not allowed to participate in the sea games, seaba, asian games, etc because they fall under the jurisdiction of the fiba.does that mean that playing in this tournaments doesn't have any effect on our ranking?

^^ i think regional competion does not have any bearing in the rankings. it's the ruke so we have to follow it. That is also thereason why the PBA backed team targets the fiba asia rather than asian games (as they previously did) is to improve our standing.
