Henry sy is already owns NU and their recruitment is very agressive. the perks/package has really attracted this recruits to their side. sad but true.

The Yuchengco family should match the offers being handed out by NU. Starting point is a signing bonus plus a monthly stipend. Can deep discounts at SM stores be far behind. :D

It is not only Mapua that is feeling the squeeze from NU and the school aims to be a factor when it comes to recruiting blue chippers. The cost of recruiting has escalated.

2 years pa ata yun bago makalaro

humingi lang daw pala ng vacation break si yousef sa coaching staff pahinga lang daw muna siya..

Vacation break to think things over? ;D

For a new recruit to ask for a vacation, that's quite disturbing.

^ +1 on that one.

Worrisome too, considering he may end up playing in our neck of the woods rather than yours. Neck-neck na...

Anyway, the more, the many-er na lang.

Mapua will get the last Final Four slot this season 86. They have a veteran lineup who have played together for the last 3 years; Guillermo, Acosta, Cornejo, Pascual, Banal, Ranises, Sarangay and Mangahas. The Cardinals were also impressive in the Pre-season; playoff appearances in the FMC Open and FMC Summer League.

Jessy Saitanan is the big man from Colegio Sta Monica, around 6'4" to 6'5", great footwork, very fundamentally sound, gotten stronger the last two years, will be a good complement / replacement for Mike Parala, don't know if he can play two years or only one year for the Cardinals.

Chris Porter is the transfer from TIP, a 6'2" to 6'3" swingman, very athletic but has a streaky jumpshot, handles are a little suspect too, probably more 3 than 2, might be a de luxe imported version of Kevin Espinosa, that former swingman of yours who came from San Beda.

Joseph Eriobu will get the minutes on your team at both forward spots, but will most likely be more 3 than 4. He's a legit 6'3", might already even be 6'4". He's better off running in transition or playing the secondary break with his great leaping ability and overall athleticism, really should work on his jumpshot though.

Gab Banal is a 6'3" forward whose skill set is made more for the 4 than the 3 spot. He'll probably be a player like Macky Acosta, not really a fulltime 3, not really a legit 4, but has enough fundamentals to play either forward spot.

Even though he's in danger of not growing any bigger you guys really ought to keep Red Robin star Jay Alejandro. He'll be the star for Olsen Racela's Youth Team playing both guard spots. He's got above-average skills at both guard spots but will be overmatched in college as a 2-guard if he stops growing at his present 5'9". This early you might want to train him to be a fulltime pointguard, where he can use his driving game to break down defenses and set up some baseline action or drive-draw opportunities.

I guess Saitanan has 3 to 4 yrs left of eligibilty since he is just 19 yo by now. i believe he was included in the pool for 2010 RP youth under 18 team.

CEBU CITY – University of Cebu suddenly found itself without its best player after guard Darrell Shane Menina bolted the Webmasters camp in favor of the NCAA's Mapua Cardinals.

The development is a major blow for the Webmasters, who, just a few weeks ago, were in a bright mood after hanging tough against Malaysia, Mapua and the University of San Carlos Warriors in the Cebu City Mayor’s Cup.

Menina was the star of the team's campaign with performances that saw him break out for 37 against the Malaysians and 28 against the Warriors, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) runners-up last season.

These performances caught the eye of Mapua head coach Fortunato 'Atoy' Co, who wasted no time recruiting the cat-quick guard.

In a talk with Spin.ph, Menina divulged that the Cardinals’ pitch was just too good to pass up on.

“It’s a good opportunity. It’s what led me to make the decision as it benefits me and my family,” said Menina in his native tongue.

Menina added that it has always been his dream to play in Manila.

“I think I speak for all basketball players, who dream of playing in Manila for exposure and for their ambitions to come true.”

Still, the decision to leave the Webmasters was not an easy one, said the youngster especially with the Cesafi a few months away.

“I am sad because UC was my high school alma mater. I wouldn't reach this far as a player if it wasn't for UC. I am thankful to Atty. (Baldomero) Estenzo and the UC coaching staff. I owe them a debt of gratitude,” Menina shared.

According to UC’s associate head coach Joever Samonte, Menina was not the only player who was recruited by Mapua. Five players were offered spots in the Cardinals squad but only Menina and big man Marc Obado accepted the offer.

Estenzo, the team’s manager and acting head coach, did not hide his disappointment nor did he mince words over Menina’s defection.

“I have mixed feelings. I’m terribly disappointed that they did not have the courtesy of asking permission or just even informing UC or Atty. (Augusto) Go of their plan to transfer. But I’m happy because I will not have players in the team whose loyalty is questionable,” said the longtime UC official, who helped nurture the careers of current PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo and Blackwater guard Brian Heruela.

With Menina gone, the offensive burden will now lie squarely on the shoulders of sophomore guard Justine Dacalos. But Estenzo is hoping that others can pick up the slack and reiterated that he carried no ill will towards Menina.

“Finally, I’m hopeful that the other players will step up and prove themselves worthy of carrying UC in all the games they will be playing. So, no love lost between us. Good luck to them.”

Atoy Co defends Mapua recruitment tactics after UC cries foul over Menina 'poaching'

From: Jonas Panerio
June 8, 2015

CEBU CITY – The transfer of marquee player Darrell Shane Menina from University of Cebu to Mapua has sparked a scathing word war between two of the leading colleges in the country.

Webmasters team manager and acting coach Atty. Baldomero ‘Merong’ Estenzo questioned Mapua’s recruitment tactics after its coaches talked directly with Menina and other targets during the Cardinals' recent stint in the Cebu City Mayor’s Cup without informing UC officials.

... Contacted for comment by Spin.ph, Co said he did nothing wrong as far as offering Medina a chance to play for the Cardinals in the NCAA, stressing he was merely doing his job.

“I did nothing wrong. As a coach, it is my job to look for the best talent available to add to my team. And in (Shane) Menina, nakita ko na he’s one of the best, if not the best here in Cebu. So I talked to him and his parents after our game and they agreed to join my team,” said the Crispa legend.
