MANILA, Philippines—Don Bosco Technical College outlasted San Beda-Alabang, 90-86, in a battle between unbeaten teams to grab the top spot in the NCAA South basketball tournament at the SBC-A gym.
Don Bosco now paces the nine-team field with a 3-0 slate while SBCA dropped to second place at 3-1.

In previous matches, Don Bosco dumped Letran-Calamba, 86-70, and Philippine Christian University-Dasmarińas, 76-65.

The top two teams in the NCAA-South will advance to the zonal championships of the Smart-PLDT Champions League. No NCAA-South team has advanced to the “Sweet 16” finals in previous stagings of the country’s nationwide collegiate basketball tournament.

Trailing DBTC and SBCA are Lyceum-Batangas, 2-1; University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, 2-2; De La Salle Lipa, 1-1; First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, 1-1; PCU-Dasmarińas, 1-2; Letran-Calamba, 0-2; and San Pablo Colleges 0-3.

The top two teams in four zonal championships will clinch slots to the FilOil Flying V “Sweet 16” Final Challenge to be held in Manila in November.

Earning automatic seeds to the Manila championships are the finalists of the UAAP and NCAA and the champions of the Naascu, Cusa, Ucaa and the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi). Romina S. Austria
