-These kids are disciplined, Coach Raymond exposed them to a lot of summer tune-up games and teambuildings. I think he aplied coach turo's system to the junior squad.

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College-Recoletos completed a 12-game sweep of the National Collegiate Athletic Association juniors basketball tournament after the Staglets defeated the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers 97-88 in overtime Monday at the Astrodome in Pasay City.

As incentive for the rare sweep, the Staglets will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage in the championship round.

“Ang sarap ng feeling ng maka-sweep. We always think one game at a time. Last year, kaya naming mag-sweep pero hindi nangyari, kaya pinagtrabahuhan namin ito nang husto this season," said coach Raymond Valenzona.

The Staglets, seeking their fourth straight high-school championship, became the first team to sweep the eliminations since Letran accomplished that feat in 2000.

Arvie Bringas finished with 29 points and eight rebounds, while Almond Vosotros added 26, 10, eight assists, and four steals for the Staglets.

Louie Vigil had 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Keith Agovida, who registered an NCAA record 82 points in the JRU’s last game Friday, wound up with “only" 21.

It was Vigil who sent the game into overtime after drilling a triple to tie the game at 74 with 1.9 seconds left in regulation.

JRU tied it once again at 79 in overtime after a jumper by Ric Madlangbayan at the 3:20 mark, but Bringas and Vosotros took over to ensure a San Sebastian victory.

In the other game, La Salle-Greenhills beat San Beda 77-68 to clinch the last final-four berth.

With the win, the Greenies (7-5) face the Light Bombers (7-5) in the first stepladder match on Monday with the winner taking on Letran. – GMANews.TV

-Almost a triple-double. Baste never felt ryan's departure because of this kid. He makes basketball look so easy, just like a kid having fun in the playground.

Kabayang King_stag, I hope that most of the graduating Staglets will remain with Baste, most especially now that the Stags are on their way to the NCAA Final Four this season. ;)

Pahabol, Kabayan: How tall are Cam, Ramsey and Fritz Delgado and what are the chances that they can land a slot with the Stags or with another team in either the UAAP or the NCAA? ???

sandra cam's kid will have a hard time making it to a college team, he stands 5'11", a hustle type forward with awful shooting mechanics. Fritz Delgado will be evaluated by the coaching staff, but i think guard spot is full. He might spend time in the reserve squad. 6'4" ramsey can make it, he plays like raymond "putik" aguilar of NU and a former staglet. :)

Well anyway, I still hope to see most of the Staglets moving up to the Stags given San Sebastian's "return" to the NCAA elite this season. Perhaps Coach Jorge Gallent should try his best to keep the talented Staglets in Recto instead of letting them "fly away" towards other teams. ;)

San Sebastian continues its reign as the best high school team in the country. With their season sweep they get a couple days of extra rest and preparation for whoever it is they will face in the Finals, and all they need is one win to clinch the Season 84 Juniors Crown.

If it were up to me I'd rather have the Staglets face the Letran Squires in the championship. Letran has enough depth and more than enough talent and teamwork to make this an interesting match. Plus there is the marquee match-up between forward-center Arvie Bringas and swingman Kevin Alas.

Alas and the Squires proved they can give the Staglets a run for their money, going back to Letran's conquest of San Sebastian in the 14th Fr Martin Cup summer tournament championship. In that game Alas had 30 points including the winning basket, proving what good execution and discipline can do even against the tall timber of the Staglets. Of course Letran couldn't pull it off in the NCAA this season, but the fact that they've beaten San Sebastian shows they have what it takes to make this a heck of a fight.

JRU might crash the party, which would also provide a marquee match-up against new-age scoring machine Keith "8-2" Agovida. But again drawing back to the preseason, these Light Bombers have not shown they can beat the Staglets. When they face the tall and powerful San Sebastian frontline the shorter and leaner Light Bombers just have not gotten it done, leaving Agovida to try and beat them by himself. Agovida may need to set a new scoring record to get that done if they ever meet in the championship.

Which then begs the question: San Sebastinians, when and where will the Finals be?

Arvie Bringas had 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the San Sebastian Staglets to a tight 83-81 victory over the Letran Squires in Game 1 of the Best 2-out of-3 Finals in the NCAA Juniors Division.

Raffy Gusi took a pass from Almond Vosotros then nailed a long trey from the right corner to give the Staglets the lead time down to 28 seconds.

Joseph Sumang then drove into the lane and hit a lay-up to bring the Squires within one point.

Jen Roxas had one last chance to try to at least send the game into overtime when he was fouled by Vosotros with no time left on the clock. Roxas clanked the front end of the two freethrows and it was all she wrote for Letran.

Game 2 is on Friday.

In the bench ive seen also number 17 who is even much taller than Mamaril. My guess is he could be around 6-7.

San Sebastian's Staglets made it four straight NCAA junior division championships, winning Game 2 77-70 against the tough Letran Squires and wrapping up a perfect season. The boys from CM Recto swept the entire season 14-0 including these Finals.

Former Staglet superstars Eric Salamat and Ryan Buenafe were in the stands to support their former team, specifically power forward Arvie Bringas. Bringas is said to be headed to the UAAP to join Salamat and Buenafe on the champion Ateneo Blue Eagles squad.

^ Agreed, I think their heights should be switched. Watching on TV the Finals, Bringas looked to be the shorter of the two, so I would guess that Bringas is 6-4, and Mamaril would be at least 6-5.

Congrats to the Stags by the way, winning 4 straight championships. I still remember being impressed by a young Eric Salamat on TV during the NCAA juniors Finals back in 2005, and it's been fun watching them just keep on winning.

Sana yung basketball program ng Baste would also go down to their grade school team, last saturday napanood ko yung grade school team nila naglaro sa Don Bosco Makati against Southridge School, nanalo sila.

Magandang halimbawa nito is yung San Beda College, meron silang program for Grade School to High School kaya dumadami ang estudyante nila, they have produce the likes of Tyrone Bautista, Ren Ren Ritualo, Borgie Hermida etc.

If Jerome Delgado, Noy Bautista, Jeric Estrada and Len Mamaril are still around next season they will still have a chance next season. These four will still give the Staglets some scoring sock as well as the edge inside. Delgado and Bautista are both around 5'7", very quick and athletic, and display great range. Estrada and Mamaril are not only tall but they also have some heft which makes them difficult to move inside. They can still give fits to any opponent, and if just two more players emerge then they have a credible rotation for Season 85.
