Franz Pumaren was the first player to successfully make a four-point play in the PBA.
Pumaren did that while he was playing for the guest team NCC.

Alfredo "Freddy" Hubalde was the second person to have done that feat playing for the Tanduay Rhum Masters in 1987.

In Game 1 of the 1994 All Filipino Finals, Allan Caidic scored 41 points in the beermen's losing cause against Coney Island, but he did converted 7 triples, 2 of which were 4 point plays. quite a record of sorts in a championship.

October 12, 1996 – San Miguel beat Purefoods 92-89 in iloilo city.

October 15, 1996 – Alaska eked out a 97-86 triumph to the all filipino Purefoods corned beef cowboys, without import dennis hopson. Despite Patrimonio’s 32 point effort, the milkmen coasted to an easy victory and put the cowboys semis bid in jeopardy. In the nightcap, San Miguel overpowered Formula Shell turbochargers 99-81 to raise their record to four wins against one loss.

October 18, 1996 – Lamont Strothers sizzled with 56 points as San Miguel snapped Ginebra’s 9 game winning streak at the Big Dome with a 109-107 squeaker, the Ginebras were 9-0 at the Araneta Coliseum since the commissioners cup last August.

October 18, 1997 – San Miguel trounced Sta.Lucia 97-90 in Cebu City as the beermen led by as many as 24 points and held on to victory.

October 19, 1996 – Alaska defeated Formula Shell 100-95 in Cagayan de oro.

October 19, 1997 – Gordon’s edges Purefoods 100-98 as Leon Trimmingham poured in 45 points, 35 in the 2nd.half and collared 15 rebounds to outduel Mike Jones and powered the boars to its fifth victory that tied them with Alaska and San Miguel at 5-3, Jones previously led the beefies to a 101-91 win over the boars in their first meeting.

October 21, 1997 – Alaska overcame a sluggish start to subdue Pop Cola 83-79, the sizzlers tasted their fourth straight defeat and are now on a brink of elimination at 2-6. Purefoods exact revenge over Sta.Lucia 100-80 as Mike Jones put the clamps on Sean Green and the realtors who looked vastly different from the team which dumped the beefies 104-89 in the first round.

October 25, 1996 – Alaska, determined to complete the coveted Grand slam, trounced Mobiline cellular 117-107.

October 26, 1996 – Jun Limpot poured in a season high 41 points to lead Sta.Lucia to a 95-93 win over Sunkist Orange bottlers in Bacolod City.

^Heck, in 1984 Fernandez nearly averaged a triple double. He was just five assists short of averaging exactly 10 assists to go along with his 27 points and 11 rebounds per game average.

Yes. That's correct. Rookie season yata ni Boybits Victoria or after 1994. They strung up a winning streak of their own after shaving their heads. Lahat ng assistants ni Guiao including Roel Nadurata and Tembong Melencio also shaved their heads.

Just saw this in the Portland-Boston game the other day. On that day in 1980, fan-favorite PBA import Billy Ray Bates laid in a shot off an alley-oop inbound pass with about a second left to win the game for the Blazers. Just can't remember which team they beat. I think it was the Sixers. Coach Jack Ramsey called the play for Portland.

On 5 occasions a PBA Championship had 2 teams contesting for their very first PBA Title. these are:

1984 2nd All Filipino: Great Taste and Beer Hausen
1985 Reinforced: Northern and Manila Beer
1986 Open: Ginebra and Manila Beer
1990 Reinforced: Purefoods and Alaska
1992 Reinforced: Swift and Seven up

among the 10 current teams, only Burger King and Rain or shine havent won a PBA title yet, if ever these two played together in a PBA Finals, they'll joined the lists above.

Emon, the Purefoods franchise won their first PBA Championship in the 3rd conference of the 1988 season.
Purefoods also made finals appearances in the 1st and 2nd conferences of the 1988 season but lost both times to San Miguel. A great feat by the Purefoods franchise that year considering 1988 was their maden year in the PBA.

Just to set the records straight, Purefoods had won its first PBA title, the 1990 3rd Conference, at the expense of Alaska. Purefoods was the first expansion team to play in two straight Finals, 1st and All Filipino, on its first year. Unfortunately, they lost to both sister teams, San Miguel and Ginebra, respectively with the alleged pambebenta of its two players, Thirdkill during the First Conference and Fernandez during the All Filipino. Fernandez was subsequently traded to Guidaben before the start of the 3rd Conference which proved to be beneficial to San Miguel who won the title but resulted to a disappointing performance for the Hotdogs who failed to enter the semi-finals that year despite having a good import named Perry Young.

Ricky Brown and Willy Pearson yata.

? He was part of probably one of the best teams ever, the grandslam winning team, Crispa Redmanizers in '83(?). They not only have, perhaps the best stating unit ever, Abet Guidaben, Philip Cezar, Freddie Hubalde, Atoy Co and Bernie Fabiosa, but, arguablyt the best 2nd unit ever: Amateur hotshots Yoyoy Villamin, Padim Israel, Bay Cristobal and Mon Cruz and the aforementioned Willie Pearson. They still have 6'6" Jimmy Javier for good measure. Add to that mix Billy Ray Baytes and that sure is a power house.

Ang mga talaga die-hard Ginebra fans nagsimula sa ULTRA in 1985 when the living legend Robert Jaworski became playing coach, di nman barangay tawag sa kanila noon, ang kasikatan ng Ginebra dala na rin ng mga Toyota players like Big J, Arnaiz, Tuadles, Relosa, Saldana. sa opinion ko kaya na in love ang mga fans sa never-say-die attitude ng team, it happened during the third conference of '85 when import nila si Michael Hackett and that memorable Big J led-comeback win against Northern, which has naturalized players Jeff Moore and Dennis Still, along with Samboy Lim, Caidic, Calma.

I know ma offend dito mga present generation of Ginebra fans but the Ginebra fans during the 80s which occupied (or the whole) the Gallery section ng ULTRA kakaiba at grabe mang asar sa mga players, mostly Class C or D level mga fans nila noon, at times even threatened players outside the ULTRA premises whenever the Gins lost a poor officiating game, for sure, wala na sila lahat ngayon, probably those Ginebra fans in the past may no longer watch the games, today, the Ginebra fans are very cool thats why whenever I hear on TV their chant of Gi-ne-bra, Gi-ne-bra, TH ang dating sken, mainly because I was able to saw the Gins under the Big J era.

At that time, Purefoods and Ginerba were still not part of the SMC Group. IMO, Purefoods was still under the Ayala Group, while Ginebra, under La Tondena was yet to be purchased by SMC.

Marketing campaign to revive the interest in the team and the PBA overall. Not that I'm saying the PBA had a hand on it but eventually malaking gain for the league yun. Ginawan ng kantang pang-masa ni Gary Granada and followed up by Bayang Barrios. That's where and how the "Barangay" tag came to be.

I heartfully agree w/ sir Emon74 about how Ginebra was viewed back then.
