Wala masyadong support both student and alumni except for Letran is good, JRU and San Beda. Ang layo compare sa crowd ng UAAP. What we can do?

One big reason is that all NCAA games are played on weekdays (MWF). The alumni of the different schools are tied up with their jobs while the students have to attend classes.

San Beda-Letran game draws NCAA season’s best crowd

MANILA, Philippines – Who says Ateneo and La Salle are the only crowd drawers in college basketball?

A jam-packed stadium greeted the National Collegiate Athletic Association game between San Beda and Letran Wednesday at the Astrodome, easily the most attended game of the season.

The Pasay City arena has a 13,000-person seating capacity. But the number of paying spectators Wednesday was estimated to be at least 14,000.

The San Beda-Letran rivalry is the most celebrated match-up in the tournament, dating back to the 1950s when Letran’s Lauro Mumar and San Beda’s Carlos Loyzaga were their respective teams’ stars.

Since 1950 when Mumar’s Knights defeated Loyzaga’s Lions for the NCAA championship, the only other time the two schools met in the final round was last year when San Beda swept Letran in a series that was also well-attended at the gates.

San Beda won 71-67 Wednesday, the two teams' first meeting since the 2007 finals. – Erickson Beco

MANCOm talaga. . . . . . It could have been better if hindi sa Cuneta yung mga NCAA games.

1. Parking
2. Security
3. ANG SIKIP NG ENTRY/EXIT!!!!
4. Madumi ang C.R.
5. "Mainit" (compared to The Arena)

Well, that's 3 of 8 schools, not a compelling figure to have the games at the Arena.

The 12,000 crowd estimate is already very good considering that the game was not played on a weekend and taking into account further that hundreds of Bedans did not go to Cuneta anymore because tickets were already sold out days before the actual playdate.

Note also that only that part of the bleachers behind the 2 goals were not filled up; otherwise, all seats were taken.

Langhiya, in defence of the NCAA mode muna ako sa post kong ito. hahahahaha! ;D

Eto mancom PE instructors and dapat niyong idinagdag tutal mahilig kayong magdagdag ng kung ano ano.

Student population*

San Beda = 4,600
Letran* * *= 4,900
Ateneo* * = 11,465 (7,553 undergrad)
La Sale* * = 13,628 (11,071 undergrd)

*from Wiki

You don't simply compare apples and oranges. Be an alchemist first then* you compare lemons with lemons. :D

The combined population of San Beda and Letran is just 9,500 while that of Ateneo and La Salle is 25,093. If you want to compare the attendance in basketball games to make it on equal footing, divide the total spectators with the total school population for your index.

12,000/9,500 = 1.26

For an Ateneo-La Salle game to be comparable to the attendance of the San Beda-Letran game on an adjsuted basis, they need to have a total attendance* of 31,617 (25,093 x 1.26). Last year, the San Beda-Letran games peaked at least 22,000 for an index of* 2.32. For the other league to equal that on an adjusted basis, they need to peak at around 51,040.

Now try using this index with the other huge UAAP schools.* *Come to think of it, that game in the NCAA was even done on a weekday. On a weekday, ManCom PE instructors! Did you hear me!?

It's just simple ratio and proportion. We do that everyday. But the NCAA Mancom? Clueless probably.

apua, Letran face long odds in NCAA semis

MANILA, Philippines – Mapua and Letran face a one-and-done situation when the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball semifinals get underway Friday at the Astrodome.

Mapua faces top-ranked San Beda at 2 p.m., while Letran takes on rejuvenated Jose Rizal University at four o’clock.

Both teams are on their third game in as many play dates but fatigue can’t be made an excuse. They lose, they go home.

"Maganda lang this year tinalo namin ang [San Beda]," Mapua coach Leo Isaac said. "Whatever worked for us in the game, we’ll use that again and hopefully the second time’s a charm."

"We have no choice. We need to extend the season," Letran coach Louie Alas said. "Whatever fight is left in us, we’ll lay it all out on the floor."

Mapua split its season series with the defending champions. After San Beda won by an 85-56 rout in the first round, the Cardinals returned the favor the next time they met which resulted in a 53-48 victory.

The Cards can draw inspiration from their 63-54 win Friday over San Sebastian, one of the teams that had previous success against San Beda. Mapua can also take advantage of momentum going up against a Lions team hasn’t played competitive basketball in the last eight days.

In its second-round win, Mapua slowed the pace of the game and managed the shot clock to limit the Lions’ possessions.

"We cannot take Mapua lightly," said San Beda coach Frankie Lim. "We know that they can beat us and they have proven that."

Letran has a lot to prove when the Knights face the same club that dumped them by 16 points the last time they met.

His team’s 69-53 loss Wednesday to the Bombers isn’t the kind of performance Louie Alas wants to bring into Friday’s must-win game. Key personnel RJ Jazul, Rey Guevarra and Dino Daa combined for a paltry 20 points, while James Sena – the Knights’ single glaring headache – ran away with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a near-unstoppable outing.

"They outsmarted us. We were outhustled and outrebounded," Alas said.

"Letran is the best defensive team and they are very well-coached," JRU coach Ariel Vanguardia said. "We will make minor adjustments. We will try to stop their scorers." – GMANews.TV

It's the start of the Final 4 today. But did you know that in the elimination round, the NCAA did not make money in majority of the NCAA games held, despite the fact that Cuneta is charging the NCAA a mere P50,000.00 every playing day?

The only money-maker NCAA games involve San Beda, specifically the games against Letran, PCU, JRU and even one game against UPHD (on a monday declared as holiday; and despite almost zero attendance by UDHD gallery).

The other San Beda games were consistently well attended by the SBC community but the other side could only come up with measly numbers.

All the games by the other schools were box office flops.

This low attendance that you mentioned is perhaps the reason why the Final 4 games were moved from Araneta to Cuneta.

And if San Beda does lose on Monday and gets dethroned, I think the finals should be played at Cuneta.

I hope the NCAA moves back to The Arena in San Juan next year. I live near The Arena and it's a G Liner bus ride away from my place.

Yikes!

The new SWS survey also confirmed the lack of market exposure of the NCAA.

This latest survey, if used as the barometer for business decisions, will surely not help the league.

SWS: La Salle, Ateneo most popular in UAAP (http://www.gmanews.tv/story/121568/SWS-La-Salle-Ateneo-most-popular-in-UAAP)

To quote:

The survey also found San Beda College and Colegio de San Juan de Letran taking the top spots as most favorite colleges in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

This is what troubles me from the business point of view:

There were relatively lower awareness of the NCAA in areas outside Metro Manila, and among the lower classes.

Tsk tsk tsk.

Anyway, we Bedans have been defending the NCAA for so many years already. I guess it's time to wake up and smell the coffee... and the stink. ManCom, bahala na kayo sa buhay niyo.* Race to the bottom nga talaga gusto niyo. The latest survey proved our point.

I the Red Lions can still snatch a victory this coming Monday, we will give you another blockbuster attendance even in Araneta on a weekend.* ARANETA ON A WEEKEND.

If not ...sorry na lang sa ating lahat.

According to the survey, San Beda has consistently bannered the NCAA for top-of-mind awareness across different classes in different parts of the country.

But certainly,if we want to maintain this business model, we cannot do it alone.

What say you ManCom and rumor-mongerers?

Yes I understand that there should be rules but if they are made to create division among NCAA paricipants nag iiba na ang dating.

We will still follow NCAA but I hope we see all schools growing and excelling.

The finals series against JRU does not have the atmosphere and ambience of a championship game, as far as the SBC crowd is concerned.

Almost 21,000 paying audience.

Conservatively, 2/3 of that crowd were in red rooting for SBC.

So this translates to about 14,000 Bedan supporters at the Araneta on a Monday.

Not bad for a small college ;)

its business, rent probably cheaper on weekdays specially on mondays. and SBC people can fill the venue anyway.
btw, who will be the host next year?

Since ABS-CBN is only willing to broadcast two game dates per week, it will be better to move the Monday games to Sunday. It wont matter much even if the Sunday games are not televised as it is a non-working day and will afford our alumni and students the opportunity to watch the games live.* ;)
