Pardon my ignorance but whats the meaning of unc?

I think it's University of Nueva Caceres.

* * *YES, that's a possibility but the said school is not on the working list.

* * *However, it could by a typo error because one of the teams that has confirmed their participation is the Universal College of Nursing (UCN) Dragons.* UCN is located along Sucat Road in Paranaque City and is handled by former Mapua Cardinal guard Efren Garcia.

* * *By the way, it's not UNC but another school from Bicol that will join this year's Father Martin Cup, Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU).* I will post the official list once it is finalized.* Some schools have yet to give their confirmation and others are still hoping to get in.

The Fr Martin opening ceremony set for Saturday morning was postponed. No reason was given by Mr Joey Lim, FMC Sec Gen, according to the security personnel of San Beda. Neither did he say if and when the opening ceremony will be.

Does that affect any of the schedules you posted above, Anthony?

Does that affect any of the schedules you posted above, Anthony?

* * *NO, the schedule posted above was the revisions made after the Saturday games were cancelled.* It is the official schedule.* The only minor change was the request of Emilio Aguinaldo to have its Sunday game with Informatics re-scheduled and it was agreed upon by both teams.

* * *Any breaking changing will be posted here.

Most probably. I cant imagine Cawaling, Baracael, Cervantes, Kave and company bowing to LaCo when the Tams can defeat any UAAP team at any given time.

Not that im degrading LaCo's basketball ability.* ;D :D Anything can happen.

when is the next game of the Arellano SRS. team? I wanna see how good the Daroya kid really is.

Di ba matanda na yan?

I think Daroya has already graduate or baka di na talaga eligible sa NCRAA.

Daroya dominated when he played against NCRAA teams and that's as far as he can go. I doubt if he can really compete against the UAAP and NCAA big men like Ekwe, Marcelo, Jervy, Arao, Baclao, Ballesteros, Sena, etc. Daroya is just 6'3 and he gets his way by simply bullying his way inside against smaller opposition.

As per the official line-up of Arellano University Chiefs submitted by their school Sports Coordinator, Ezra Baloloy to us, #23 Orlando Daroya was born March 9, 1984. As per league rules, he is still within the cut-off year of 1984.
Arellano will playing T.I.P.Engineers on Sunday, May 18, 2008, 10:30 am, at the St. Placid gymnasium of San Beda College. Then they play St. Francis of Assisi the following Sunday, at 12 noon, also at San Beda. Their last opponent for the elims will be Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers Team B, likewise undefeated, on the 29th, 1:30pm, at the newly refurbished T.I.P. gymnasium at P.Casal, at Quiapo, Manila

I can still remember someone named Daroya in that Arellano team way back in 2005 Gillette FMC II. That SBC-Arellano game was one of the toughest and the most physical game for the Red Lions Team Behold bannered by Pong Escobal. Who is this Orlando Daroya? The same person or younger brother?

About the incident involving Ryan Roose Garcia sucker-punching Eman Monfort in their recent Fr Martin game: Garcia should issue a public apology to Monfort and the basketball public or he should resign from the team.

With all of the young pointguards out there it shouldn't be difficult to replace him. Clark Bautista, Mikee Reyes, Nico Elorde, JD Dumrique, Juami Tiongson can easily replace Garcia.

Mr Jun Sy of the TAO Corportion and Mr William Whyte of Nokia Philippines, the two main sponsors of the Youth team, have constantly and publicly declared that they are supporting the Youth team not only because of basketball but also in order to mold young men of integrity and character.

Jun Sy in particular has been very vocal about developing not just outstanding basketball players but upstanding young men who embody the best in the Filipino youth. With Garcia's action in their FMC game against Monfort he has directly gone against the very values and principles that the team supposedly is trying to uphold in all its members. Surely Jun Sy and William Whyte would not have condoned Garcia's cowardly and treacherous act and in a game situation at that.

Even if we were to assume that this was a "heat of the moment" kind of thing, it is distressing and disappointing that it still did happen. What possible excuse could Garcia have? They were down in the dying seconds of the game and Monfort was killing FEU particularly Garcia with steals and pressure shots. Instead of rising to the occasion and being poised and sportsmanlike Garcia did the one thing no one should ever do in a civilized game: sucker-punch the opponent. Surely this cannot be the integrity and character the Youth team wants to project.

To make matters worse Garcia is on the YOUTH team! The YOUTH team for godsakes! This is the team that most directly wants to be a positive example for all Filipino youth in general. I fail to see what kind of good example Garcia's street thug action provides. He is no longer just another player from off the streets and it is high time he realizes this and acts accordingly. He is representing the YOUTH OF OUR COUNTRY IN A VERY VISIBLE OFFICIAL CAPACITY. If he cannot shoulder the full weight of this responsibility then he should be removed from the team.

That Ronnie I remember very well. Torched us in a pre-season tourney in your home turf. It's just unfortunate that he wasn't able to suit up earler. Him and that beanpole Kentucky could have denied us S69 (shudder the thought).

Arellano University continued its dominance over Ateneo B in the Fr Martin, ousting the B Eagles 87-76 in their semifinal encounter this morning at San Beda. 4'11" pointguard Frodo Anquilo led the Chiefs with 27 points including four triples and five steals. Veteran Orlan Daroya also came through for the defending NCRAA champions with 16 points and 11 rebounds, including four clutch freethrows in the end-game. Anquilo came in midway through the second period and busted the game open for Arellano 34-17.

Pau Dizon, Alec Rivera, former UAAP players Eman Monfort and Jobe Nkemakolam all conspired to bring the B Eagles back. Dizon scored seven straight points to bring Ateneo within 44-42 early in the third period. Anquilo, Jun Del Rosario and Daroya however put some distance between the two teams again with shifty inside play. Dizon, Rivera and Nkemakolam kept Ateneo within striking distance though. Gina Lucas nailed a trey from top of the key to knot the count at 71-all early in the fourth period.

But Arellano just wouldn't be denied as they went on an 11-1 to put the game away.

In the main seniors game Letran came from behind to edge NCAA rival Jose Rizal 74-67. Former hardcore circuit mainstays RJ Jazul, Boyet Melegrito and Rey Guevarra hunkered down in the pivotal fourth period to tow Letran to the win and into the Fr Martin Finals against earlier finalist Arellano. JRU had a 37-50 lead late in the third period and held a 58-48 lead as late as the middle of the last period. John Wilson and Reycon Kabigting were getting good perimeter shots while Marvin Hayes was muscling his way inside.

Jazul, Melegrito and Guevarra however clamped down on defense with Melegrito holding down the prolific Wilson in the critical stretches of the end-game. Alvyn Cabonce and John Foronda then went to work getting good position down low for easy lay-ins. Letran finally wrested the lead 69-67 on a fastbreak layup by Melegrito and never looked back from there.

The Seniors Division finals is tentatively set for Sunday 8 June 2008 at 11:30 AM in San Beda.

It'll be size and strength versus speed and shooting in the Fr Martin junior division finals: San Sebastian's Golden Staglets will take on the Letran Squires. San Sebastian beat Lasalle Zobel 63-50 while Letran edged Ateneo De Manila 103-101 in overtime in their semifinal matches.

Zobel stayed toe to toe for the first two and a half quarters until Baste went on a mini-run midway through the third period to take a 42-34 cushion and held on the rest of the way. Nico Elorde and Aiki Herrera conspired with Gwyne Capacio to try and bring Zobel back into the game but just could not get over the hump.

6'4" Man-child Arvie Bringas and tough guy pointguard Raffy Gusi led the Staglets over Capacio and the Bengals. Bringas had 14 points and 11 rebounds while Capacio had 11 points and nine boards.

In the second junior game Letran came from 22 points down on the unconscious shooting of guard Kevin Alas to down the Blue Eaglets for the second day running. The day previous the Squires won the Filipino-Chinese Friendship League championship against the Eaglets also with the sniping of Alas and the fearless play of mature looking pointguard Joseph Sumang.

Alas had six treys in a telling 24-2 run that knotted the count at 52-all midway through the third period after the Eaglets went up by as much as 48-26. When Alas was shut down by the tight guarding of Ice Reyes Sumang took up the cudgels to keep the Eaglets at bay. Alas had a tournament high 40 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.

Juami Tiongson, Keifer Ravena and Ael Banal kept Ateneo in the fight but just could not sustain the effort in the end-game. Tiongson had 21 points and eight boards while Ravena had 17 points and four steals.

Letran College almost made it a double celebration in the Fr Martin Cup Finals at the San Beda gym in Manila.

In the junior division finals the Letran Squires leaned on the crunch-time heroics of star guards Kevin Alas and Joseph Sumang to eke out an 88-86 victory over the towering San Sebastian Golden Staglets.

San Sebastian raced to an early 23-8 lead to start the game behind the power plays of 6'4" forward-center Arvie Bringas and guards Jonjon Vosotros and Raffy Gusi. But Letran quickly recovered as Alas and Sumang waxed hot from the perimeter as the Squires completely overturned the score to 41-27 early in the second period. 6'3" Squires center Jeff Ongteco and forward Nix Tampus got in on the act from transition and the backdoor to bloat the lead to 49-27 early in the third period.

The Staglets however went to their strength inside as 6'5" Len Mamaril and 6'6" Mike Andrada ruled the inside even as Gusi and Vosotros waxed hot themselves to bring San Sebastian to a 71-all tie late in the fourth period. Vosotros and Sumang then exchanged baskets in a personal duel that saw an 86-all tie with only 31 ticks left on the clock.

Alas then drove the baseline and scored on a short one-hander to put the Squires up 88-86 with 1.3 seconds left. Gusi clanged the ball off the rim as time expired. Alas finished with 30 points including seven treys while Vosotros had 34 points for San Sebastian.

In the seniors finals Arellano's mighty Chieftains went to work early on and were never seriously threatened on their way to a 93-84 win over the Letran Knights. Orlando Daroya went on a tear right from the get-go with nine straight points - two three-pointers and an and-1 play - to put the Chiefs on top 9-0. Arellano went up as high as 78-48 midway through the third period.

PBL veterans RJ Jazul, Rey Guevarra, Dino Daa and Boyet Melegrito tried to keep the Knights in the fight but Daroya got plenty of help from Jun Anquilo, Ron Del Rosario and Dondon Rivera to keep Letran at bay. Jazul hit back to back three-pointers to make it 56-44 late in the second period but simply could not get sustained help from the rest of his team.

Letran was uncharacteristically unhinged by the 2-1-2 and 1-2-2 press of the Chiefs that generated turnover after turnover easily converted by the Arellano perimeter. By the time the KNights recovered their bearings the game was virtually out of reach.

Daroya had 34 points including eight treys to go with 14 rebounds. Noy Belencion had 22 points for the Knights.

Congratulations to the to the Chiefs and Squires for copping their respective titles in this year's Fr. Martin's Cup, summer edition.

The president of Arellano University, Francisico P. Cayco, is an alumnus of the Ateneo de Manila.

Kudos also to Team Glory Be and the Eaglets for putting up a good fight even though they fell short of the finals! I am sure they have learned and have further honed their skills. The same goes for the other participating schools.

Congratulation also to the organizers for the success of the tournament.

Out of curiosity, just how old is Darroya already? Does anyone know?

^ Salsa he can't be older than 25 years, at least if we are just to take things at face value. I believe the Fr Martin age limit for the seniors division is 25 years old, meaning you cannot be older than 25 on opening day.
