DLS-STI, Don Bosco outplay rivals *

DE LOS Santos-STI College* *continued its remarkable showing, beating St. Joseph College-Quezon City, 89-63, in* *the Metro Manila Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association (MMICAA) basketball* *tournament* at the Don Bosco gym* in Kalentong, Mandaluyong City.
* *
Jay Leyga, John Morente, Kim Mejica and Archie Olmedo combined for 65 points for the Luke Dacula-mentored Olympians,* who extended their winning streak to* four games.
* *
Leyga topscored with 20 points, while Morente had 19, Mejica contributed 14 .
* * *
Lloyd Ugarde paced St. Joseph with 12 points, followed by Emil Agulto and Jan Bernabe with 10 points each.
* *
Overshadowed by DLS-STIís* victory was Don* Bosco Technical Institute,* which crushed Pamantasan ng* *Pasig, 90-78, for* its third straight win.

James Cajulis scattered 16 points for Don Bosco, who led at halftime Luis Garcia, Norman Vijar, Luke Monton and Jamil Virayo also played well for Don Bosco, combining for 35 points.

In the other games, St Dominic de Savio* College defeated Dominican* College-San Juan, 71-56, and* Manila* Doctors College downed* *Informatics* *International College-Quezon City, 77-55.

Angelo Dela Cruz* finished with* 14 points and two other* players* scored in double-digits for St . Dominic, who improved its record* to 3-1 card.

Eric Tingzon contributed 11 points* *and Bryan Contreras added 10 points for the Novaliches-based school.

Klemson Clemente and Alvin Lomangcolob* had 15 and 12 points for Dominican College.

Manila Doctors* drew double-digits* scores from Ivy Jayme, Fernando Billedo and Dax Balisalisa.*

Don Bosco, La Con outplay rivals *

HOST* Don Bosco Technical College survived a* gallant stand by Delos Santos-STI College-Quezon City to fashion out a thrilling 79-75 win, even as La Consolacion* College crushed St. Dominic Savio* College, 110-100, in overtime in the 2007 Metro Manila Inter-Collegiate Athletic* Association (MMICAA) basketball* tournament at the Don Bosco* gym in Kalentong, Mandaluyong City.

Led by Charles Corpuz and handled by coach* M ario Bernal, the Bosconian* unleashed a* decisive scoring run* in* the* final* minute to clinch the* win* over the Olympians* and* the solo lead in this nine-team tounament.
* *
Corpuz scattered 22 points for the Mandaluyong based-team, which remained as one of two unbeaten teams in the* tournament.
* *
Backing up Corpuz* were Robbie Cruz with 15 and Luke Monton with 14.
* * * *
John* Morente carried the fight for the* Olympians with 20 points, followed by Jay Leyga with 19 and* *Kim Mejia with 11.
* *
Overshadowed* by* Don Boscoís* impressive* win* was La Consolacion , which needed a strong finish* to* repulse* St. Dominic.* * * *
* *
Bing De Vera joined hands with Marlon Manas and Mel Madigat to lead* La Consolacion to a* hard-earned victory over St. Dominic.
* *
De Vera fired 22 points,* while Manas and Madigat had 18* and 17 points for the Mendiola-based school of* former RP* youth* player- turned-coach Bong Dela Cruz.
* *
Jerome Billiones and Eric Tinzon led St. Dominic with 32 points each.

In the other game,* Pamantasan ng* *Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) defeated Manila Doctors College, 73-61, for* its first win in three outings.

Five players, led by Alison Altea and Rhoderick* Indico, scored in double figures for the Pasig-based team.
* *
Altea scored 16* points, Indico had 15, Marlon Gomez contributed* 14 and* *Michael Omadto with 13.

MMICAA cagefest set

A four game-bill will kick off the 11th season of the Metro Manila Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association (MMICAA) at the Don Bosco Technical College gymnasium tomorrow.

After the opening rites at 9 a.m., a pair of junior encounters opens the hostilities with Saint Dominic Savio College going up against Don Bosco at 11 a.m., followed by Antipolo Lady of Lourdes School taking on Saint Joseph School Tondo at 12:30 p.m.

In the senior division, Dominic Savio faces Manila Doctors College 2 p.m., followed by Informatics College-Diliman versus Dominican College at 3:30 p.m.

Other member schools participating in the tournament are College of the Holy Spirit, Rizal Technology University, and Saint Joseph College.

Besides basketball, the league also offers badminton and volleyball.

DBTC Rector Fr. Martin Macasaet, SDB, will give the inspirational message to the athletes and Mario Bernal, MMICAA president will conduct the ceremonial toss.

This seasonís theme is "Enhancing the Athletesí Performance for Unity and Progress in Building the Nation."

can the SBP just organize them systematically or geographically para at least wala ng redundancy? ???
