Last winning a collegiate championship in the 1989 CAAA should be a great motivation for the new breed of CIT Wildcats. Take inspiration from Felix Duhig, Jr., Philippine official record holder of 18 trifectas made in a game en route to scoring 79 points in a game in 1989.

Will CIT top again? CIT fans, welcome aboard.

bring back memories of Felix Duhi, Jr. when CIT topped the CAAA in 1989. Did Gerry Cavan play during the early years of CESAFI? He was a really good player too

Jerry Cavan was the inaugural season MVP of CeSAFI in 2001. They were defeated by the UV Green Lancers in the finals. Final score of game 2 was 80-79 OT.

Sherwin Abobo can be considered as one of CeSAFI's scoring machines in recent times. Emilio Aniñon, I suppose is also a decent center

they have to iron it out peacefully or the management should make a move if in case they that there is a riff between players and coaches.

Oscar was my 4th year classmate at USJ-R circa 1997, so that should make him eligible to play between 97-2004

For some reason Coach Alex Dela Torre looks too formal to me, somehow, it creates a barrier between him and the players

perhaps players think he's a professor not a basketball coach.

Demape to coach CIT Wildcats
Updated April 09, 2009 12:00 AM*
The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Former pro star Gilbert Demape is headed for a reunion with his alma mater as he has been tapped to coach the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats for the 2009 basketball season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).

This was revealed to The FREEMAN by CESAFI commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. Demape will replace coach Alex de la Torre, who will now serve as team consultant for the collegiate and high school teams.

Demape, who hails from Brgy. Umapad, Mandaue City, led the Wildcats to the Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA) finals in the late ’90s, but lost to the Cebu Doctors’ College (now CDU) Stallions of then coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba.

Prior to that Demape-led CIT, the Felix Duhig batch of the Wildcats won the CAAA crown when they defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) Jaguars.

During his high school days, Demape also powered the Wildkittens to the Zonal championships by beating the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers. They then represented Cebu to the National Inter-Secondary Championships in San Pedro, Laguna.Their coach then was Romy Cal, now team consultant of CSD Builders based in Toledo City and head coach of the CSD Power Brokers.

Demape was the Wildcats’ leading scorer during his prime. Some of his teammates in CIT were Robert Ortega, Joseph Caparida, Jumie Ararao and Pedro Bacalso. His stint with the Manila Metrostars in the now defunct MBA catapulted him into playing in the PBA where he played for the Talk ‘N Txt Phone Pals.

The CIT administration led by president Gregorio Escario welcomed Demape with open arms, hoping that the Wildcats would be competitive enough under his tutelage. (GGM) (THE FREEMAN)

^^^so, alex dela torre will be replaced by demape? what's the reason behind the change?

i wasn't sure how sir alex was as a coach, but i definitely appreciate him as a mentor and instructor in college.

Coach Alex Dela Torre will still be team consultant. It was definitely difficult for him to coach that team while at the same time he has a teaching load and is also CIT's athletic director. Demape can focus solely on coaching the team, hopefully that will translate to good results for CIT, but first they have to find material.

Tallo foregoes final year in Cesafi hoop tourney
Cebu Daily News

REIGNING Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) juniors division MVP Mark Jayven Tallo will not be donning the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildkittens jersey this season.

In fact, he will not be seen anywhere on the court when the brand new Cesafi season opens on July 31.

The prodigious star chose to forego his final year of eligibility in the league by transferring to the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons.

Cesafi commissioner Felix “Boy” Tiukinhoy said that with Tallo transferring, he will be forfeiting his last year of eligibility since any player moving from one member school to another must serve two years of residency.

The development comes as a surprise for supporters and basketball fans in the city, many of whom were expecting an encore performance from Tallo, last year's MVP who led the Wildkittens to their first and only title in the Cesafi.

Tallo's father, Mark, a former player in the PBA and a consultant for CIT last season, said the reason for the transfer was because of a conflict with a school teacher.

According to him, the conflict surfaced between Mark Jayven and his Social Studies subject teacher after the latter failed the former in the subject last semester.

The elder Tallo also said the teacher allegedly uttered some ugly remarks when Mark Jayven got injured while playing for the Wildkittens in the Cesafi Partner's Cup.

This prompted the parent to transfer his son to another school./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
