Meanwhile, La Salle’s Brian Ilad will be asked to issue a public apology to Warriors forward Mark Pamfulme and the league on top of a two-game suspension.

Ilad punched Pamfulme at the back of the head on Thursday in La Salle’s side of the bench in a game which the Red Warriors won to sweep the eliminations.

The league’s technical committee upheld commissioner Ed Cordero’s recommendation of the apology -- an unprecedented punishment -- but wants a longer ban on the La Salle cager.

^ I think this is a good idea. Pag nanakit ka ng kapwa mo player intentionally, dapat mag apologize ka personally to that player, the league and the public. This should be institutionalized.

Let's bring back the spirit of sportsmanship in college basketball.

But tomorrow, La Salle will be one man short as 6-foot-5 Brian Ilad will serve his suspension for punching UE’s Mark Fampulme from behind in their game last Thursday.

Commissioner Ed Cordero called for a two-game suspension on Ilad “provided” that he issues a “sincere, written and public apology (to be made on television)” to Fampulme and the UAAP as well.

As of last night, members of the technical committee couldn’t agree on the length of the suspension although Ilad could be banned the rest of the season if he “opts not to apologize.”

Cordero said the issue will be elevated to the board, which meets tomorrow.

Ilad’s punch was magnified by the facts that he was not in the game at the time, that there was no direct provocation from Fampulme, and that it was thrown from behind, rendering the UE player totally defenseless.

“We also encourage La Salle officials to address the demeanor of their fans,” said technical committee head Kiko Diaz of UP. “They were even clapping for Ilad when he was ejected.”

Brian will be technically out for the remainder of the UAAP season because of the 5 game suspension slapped on him. He already did his apology to Fampulme, UE, La Salle, and to the UAAP last Monday. The suspension is on top of the automatic one game suspension due to his ejection from the game last Thursday.
