Daniel Craig, IMHO, has the potential to be the best Bond ever. I really liked Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace wasn't that far off either, in terms of being true to the Ian Fleming novels and portraying a vengeful and serious Bond.

Daniel Craig is truly a MAN's James Bond. I got to see Quantum of Solace with two lady friends who were not too impressed with his portrayal of 007, according to them Daniel Craig's Bond lacks the smooth moves and good looks when compared to Brosnan. IMO, no way could Brosnan pull off the stunts and over-all tough guy attitude that Craig brings to the role. During certain scenes of Quantum, when Bond would knock some guy out, I could not help but ask my friends, "kaya ba ni Pierce Brosnan yan?" :D

Looking at the big picture, both actors actually do justice to the role, but they represent two different stages in Bond's career, Craig covers the Bond who was only beginning to make a name for himself, using brute force to get what he wants, while Brosnan, is the more refined, suave agent, and not to mention, sophisticated ladies' man.

Let me put it in a Socionomic perspective mga pare ko. The bond during the Brosnan era was reflective of the social mood of the time.

People in the West was more optimistic of the future, the Bull Market took charge, people have money to spend and have fun. Popular culture is reflective of the greater trend of business cycle of the West.

Now the West is all Doom and Gloom. Have you noticed the string of Super-heroes. Dark and impersonal. Today's Bond is reflective of the current social mood.

For more information about the theory of Socionomics...don't ask me. ahihihhihi. Just grab a book or read it online. :D ;D

The irrational exuberance of the Brosnan era is dead. ;)

Here's a 2005 article if you guys are interested.

UK Economy Big Picture - Part 2
by Jonathan Rosser

What the indicators are saying?

What entertains you?

Remember films like Legally Blonde, all those teen movies even Star Wars episode 1? Remember the Spice girls, boy bands, girl bands, pop music with nothing to say?

Remember fashion's trend to expose more and more flesh.

What do all these things have in common? They saw there zenith in the late 90's and early millennium, they represented the entertainment world's interpretation of "irrational exuberance" and they have been declining in importance in recent months.

Horror movies are making a comeback (not seen in volume or anger since late 70's and early 80's - What was social mood like then?). In recent movie charts 2 horror films have made it to no1. More are scheduled for release in 2005 than any other year. - WHY? Horror is selling again. WHY? Social mood?

Rock albums have been out selling light weight pop for a couple of years in the UK. Look at the singles charts, a subtle change is taking place (Note how angry rap has become over the last 5 years plus) - WHY? Harder edged music is selling. WHY? Social mood?

(Remember the light weight pop of the "swinging Sixties" giving way to the harder and harder rock of the seventies culminating in the destruction of punk).

(Pop trash of the "Go-go Nineties gives way to harder and harder rock of the new millennium?)

Look at the fashions in the high street windows. Bohemian? Certainly not the "bare all" of recent years. Less and less skin is visible, and if your high street has looked anything like mine in recent years aren't we glad. (Why do ladies with a more healthy covering of flesh insist on showing us as much as a catwalk model?) WHY? Longer skirts / dresses / tops are selling. WHY? Social mood?

I somewhat agree about everything except the part I highlighted. Craig's Bond was purposely cast as an unrefined and brutal character because that's exactly how he was described in the Casino Royale book of Ian Fleming. You have to remember, Casino Royale was the very first Bond novel, and here Bond had just been given 00 status and was just getting his feet wet in the spy game. So Casino Royale the movie is in reality a prequel. Quantum of Solace the movie was a continuation of Casino Royale, so Bond here is still out for revenge and killing everyone in his path.

As an action flick, QoS gets good marks from me. It was a nice ride. And it remidned me a lot of the Bourne series. From a Bond persepective, though, it's about as un-Bond as a film can get, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the producers were looking at Craig's Bond as a reboot of the franchise.

What was the setting of the book? How was the market acceptance during that time? Is the general socio-economic condition any similar to the current one, low social mood?
That might give us a hint on why the prequel was released at this point in time.

Anyways check out their theory:
