Bono, Castro atop PBL's MVP race

Big man Ken Bono of Cebuana Lhuillier and fleet-footed Jason Castro of Harbour Centre are leading the top contenders for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) race in the 2007 Philippine Basketball League Unity Cup.

The 6’5” Bono is in front with 518 statistical points, averaging at 16.33 markers, 6.75 rebounds and 2.16 assists per game, according to a report posted on the PBL Web site (www.mypbl.com).

Running second place is the 5’10” Castro with 501 statistical points, with 12.08 markers, 5.67 rebounds and 4.75 assists per game as average. His chart is also spiked with 1.25 steals per outing.

Both Bono and Castro, however, have to lead their respective teams to the finals to have a chance on locking the MVP award.

Doug Kramer, also of Cebuana Lhuillier, is at third place with 467 points for posting the highest number of rebounds in the tourney at 8.75 per game. He also notched 8.42 points and 1.5 assists per outing.

JR Quiñahan of Burger King is fourth with 448 statistical points, with 13.33 markers and 7.33 rebounds and spiced further with 2.33 blocks and 1.75 assists per game.

Toyota Balintawak’s Dennis Daa came in fifth with 425 statistical points, followed by Harbour's Chad Alonzo (416), Toyota's Patrick Cabahug (402), Cebuana's Macky Escalona and Eric dela Cuesta (400) and Harbour's Chico Lanete (387).
