Just thought I'd start a thread about the outlook on women's basketball this coming season and the prospects of the various teams. :)

Who are emerging as the stars this year? How do you think the teams will match up against each other? Please share here!

...and also please don't forget to share each school's women hardcourt hotties. We'd love to see them all. ;D

I believe she'll be playing for the Lady Archers next year. She stands around 6'.

How the heck do you spell that Wilson girl's first name?

Anyway, I hope you gentlemen don't mind if I intrude on your drooling, but who will be seeing action alongside Kay/Kady/Kadi for the Lady Archers? I'd like to familiarize myself with the competition in the women's division before the start of the season. :)

UST and FEU are the preseason favorites, being the FInalists last season; either Lasalle or Adamson will crash the Final 4 party. Ateneo is by no means assured of a Final 4 slot this year, although with the assured return of the veteran trio of Cassandra Tioseco, Cheryl Ngo and Katrina Quimpo we remain a top contender. Ateneo actually did better than expected last season given the new faces. If anything this year's team will likely be one heck of a banger next year with a full year's experience under their collective belts.

Right now fourth-year guard Treena Limgenco,third-year forward Hila Indigne and sophomore guard Mariana Lopa are under greater attention in the skills building training camp. Incoming rookies Sarah Mercado, Krystel Co and Crystal Ballentyne are still trying to get into the same game shape as the rest of the Lasy Eagles. A good development is the emergence of fourth-year guard Kariz "Mamang" Javier as a valuable veteran presence who can open things up with her perimeter shooting (ask UP).

FEU has at least four superior multiskilled players who gained yet another year's experience playing together: Au Adriano, Ayi Rivera, Diana Jose, Jeng Nido, have both perimeter and post skills as well as size, strength, speed and springs. Throw in another talented forward in Chovy Borja and you have one well-balanced team. They have also gotten bigger if you can believe that with the arrival of heralded recruit Cristine Reyes, formerly of Holy Angels University. The 5-foot-11 Reyes brings a lot of size and strength to the FEU frontline, giving the Lady Tams a true full-sized center for the first time in about three seasons.

UST returns the dynamic duo of Jeng Buenacosa and do-it-all guard Menchu Bacaro. Mai Gregorio returns to anchor the inside for UST. About three or four tall newcomers at the forward spot will give Coach Peng tan more options and relieve Bacaro of the burden of trying to do things on her own. UST actually did pretty well in the last Home and Away League and seems ready to prove that their championship last year was no fluke.

Lasalle seems to have gotten the center of their future with the Kady Wilson coup. Wilson is tall (6-foot-1), talented and yes gorgeous, but is still a rookie and is expected to make typical rookie errors. She may find the going in the college level a little tougher especially when she faces women her size but stronger and a tad nastier. Going up against regining MVP Cassy Tioseco of Ateneo should prove to be one heck of a treat in more than the basketball aspects for all of the menfolk, heh-heh!

Merenciana Arayi continues to be a one-woman team for Adamson and will likely contend for the Season MVP, although hulking center Mai Rabago is giving her a lot of help down low. Also helping out in the frontcourt are the rolly-polly Codinera Sisters. Adamson is feeling the loss of another true superstar to play alongside Arayi though, as the perimeter game of the Lady Falcons is now exclusively in Arayi's hands. Perhaps the emergence of guard Maky Cendal can help alleviate those problems. Coach Vega may have to diversify the offense, trust the newcomers more and make the ball movement more egalitarian or defenses will be barricades all around Arayi.

Ngek! Hindi pa pala umaalis sina Adriano & Co. I was under the impression that some of them were leaving after last season, for some reason. (Hey, that rhymes!) I guess it was just wishful thinking :P

Man, this season is going to be exciting! (In more ways than one, I suppose, at least as far as the guys and my Sapphist (http://www.allwords.com/word-sapphist.html) sisters are concerned... ;D)

If the men hereabouts think Kady Wilson is the only player to feast eyes upon you probably have not yet seen Sarah Mercado.

- arayi isn't coming back this year. raVago has already graduated or finished her 5 playing years. Watch out for Sandel to have another good year ahead.
- adriano, jose and nido have graduated already or have used up all 5 playing years, rivera i hear is not on the lineup this year, reyes too, she has 1 year residency cause she came from Holy Angels. Only Borja and Mercado are the bright spots on this team this UAAP season.

Perhaps there was some confusion stemming from the fact that FEU's Four Queens still played in the offseason tournaments. Speaking of which, Aurora Adriano has been on the Lyceum Lady Pirates bench a lot of late, perhaps as a new assistant coach.

Ateneo obviously underestimated the Amazons and paid dearly for it, so much for that much-awaited first round sweep.

There must be a jinx on the Lasalle Lady Archers this season: first top recruit Kady Wilson goes down with an ACL injury, now veteran Tin Alon-alon also has a big cast on her leg.

It was a closer fight than anybody expected, but in the end the Ateneo Lady Eagles asserted their depth and championship experience to take out the UP Lady Maroons in a two-game sweep, annexing the Season 70 Women's basketball championship. Cassandra Tioseco displayed gamelong brilliance striking at will on the high-low while ruling the glass, while Treena Limgenco and Katrina Quimpo clamped down hard on defense in the end-game to secure the second Ateneo women's crown in three seasons.
