:D :D :D :D Sinama ba naman ang Red Cubs among provincial teams and didn't even merit mention as possible contender. Gets ko pa bakit hindi binanggit ang NCAA champion Red Lions... kasali man o hindi... sponsored kasi ng 3-stripes brand.

At preview raw ng forthcoming UAAP and NCAA seasons? FYI guys, current UAAP and NCAA champions were cellar dwellers in the last NSL.

Hype. Hype. Hype. Hype.

Basketball na lang... post the schedules and do away with the hype.

Sino kaya ang sumulat nitong press release na ito? :D :D :D

MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine Christian University staved off a late Philippine Maritime Institute comeback to salvage a 66-63 victory in the Nike Summer League 2007 basketball tournament over the weekend at the Far Eastern University gym.

The Dolphins, runners-up in the last NCAA season, banked on a balanced offense to claim a share of top spot with opening-day winner Jose Rizal University in Group B.

Forward Lei Navarro paced the Dolphins with 12 points on top of six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Marvin Agacer pumped in 18 points as Feati outlasted Philippine College of Criminology, 76-68, to grab the solo lead in Group C.

College of St. Benilde showed the way in Group A after nipping National University, 73-68, last Friday.

Adamson also topped Group D following a 70-33 thrashing of PCU-Dasmariñas in the pre-season varsity tournament that pits 28 squads.

The top two teams in four groups will advance to the quarterfinals on May 31

De La Salle University upended University of the East, 73-70, and Far Eastern University outlasted Mapua Institute of Technology, 78-68, Wednesday to set up a winner-take-all title showdown in the 2007 Nike Summer League basketball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Veteran guard Tyrone Tang scattered 17 points to lead the Franz Pumaren-mentored Archers to win over the Warriors and clinch the second finals berth, said the league in a statement.

The championship game is set for Sunday, June 10.

Rico Maierhofer added 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Jayvee Casio, James Mangahas, and Kish Co contributed 10 points each for the Archers.

Mark Borboran carried the fight for the Warriors with 16 points, followed by James Martinez with 11 points and Pari Llagas with 10 markers.

Up by only six points entering the final two minutes mark, La Salle held its ground against UE's determined rally.

The Warriors relied on Borboran and Hans Thiele to cut the deficit to only two, 70-72, with still 26 seconds remaining.

In the first game, Benedict Fernandez scored 10 of his 19 points in the payoff period as the Tamaraws pulled away in the closely-fought contest.

Fernandez got ample scoring support from JR Gerilla and rookies Riel Cervantes and Marc Baroca in leading the Tamaraws of coach Glen Capacio to victory.

Gerilla, a 6-4 recruit from University of Mindanao, added 16 points, Baroca contributed 14 and Cervantes had 10 points for the Tamaraws.

“La Salle is a strong team. Either way, it would be a good preparation for the UAAP,” said Capacio.

“We are starting to get into game shape while FEU is now a sharper, more cohesive team.” said Pumaren.

“I think FEU has the advantage,” said La Salle coach Franz Pumaren, on their finals meeting with the Tamaraws. “They are a cohesive team.”
