for anyone who would like to see Manila's best off season basketball, try catching Metro Baketball's on going divison A tournamnet held at the Metro gym in pioneer st. mandaluyong city......here you will find current pba, pbl and nbc players, also a number of ex pros. stakes are high here with team owners couching out big bucks for the grand prize...some of the players in this tournament are the likes og joey mente, danny capobres, al magpayo, cesar catli. ibet demape, and the likes. competition is high and games are intense. games are evry mon and fri 8-1030evening and sat and sun 1pm-330.

yeah its a pretty interesting league. saw some games one time after playing badminton. a lot of unknown homegrown talent out there. the philippines is truly a basketball country. too bad we lack the growth vitamins! haha

TEAM SIARGAO, ADAMSON-HQR WINS METRO WOMENS OPEN



Siargao and Adamson-HQR came away with contrasting victories last Sunday to rule their respective divisions in the MBT Metro Women's Division of the SUNBOLT CHALLENGE CUP. The league is sponsored by Sunbolt, Inkrite, Apo Floors, Molten, Solar Sports and The Basketball Show. Games were held every Sunday at Metro Gym in Mandaluyong City.

In Division A, Adamson-HQR under Coach and veteran RP player Emelia Vega trounced the Red Bull - UP Alumni Team of Che Lubiano and Reggie as much as 28 points in the 3rd quarter due to their excellent team work and perfect play execution. Red Bull-UP gained finals seat after beating 1st Conference Champion DEMIKK of Coach Haydee Ong in the semis while Adamson-HQR edged UST team A of Coach Elizabeth "Peque" Tan, the only collegiate team to enter the semi-final round in Division A.

Team Siargao of Lucille Sering on the other hand bested PUP Alumni 53-51 to capture the Division B title in a tightly contested match. Mostly, UST Alumni, Siargao relied on crucial points delivered by Icy Marinas, Joan Te and Grase Uson. They led all the way from the start of the game and held of the last quarter rally effort by PUP. Siargao defeated UP Alumni-B while PUP downed the lone collegiate team CEU of Mike Fermin during the semis.

INKRITE led by team owner Henry Luna maintained a balanced offensive to outclass John Cardell of team Epoch Audio 67-55 taking the Division E championship trophy

With 16 corporate and alumni teams, the MBT Women's Open is now being recognized as the biggest women's basketball league in the country. MBT Commissioner Nilo C. Fernandez has vowed full support to the revival of women's basketball by having the women's league on a regular 3 conference a year basis. "I firmly believe that women's basketball has lots of potential. We have plenty of very talented players, they just don't have a place to play. We just need to restart the league and renew public interest and support for women's basketball." said Fernandez.

The 3rd conference, the MBT - Women's Open will start October of 2006. Interested parties can call 6367638 or 09179948408.

5 TEAMS TRIUMPH AT MBT CHALLENGE CUP



The 2nd Conference of the 2006 Metro Basktetball Tournaments or MBT dubbed as the SUNBOLT CHALLENGE CUP entered its final stage of the league with 5 Division Championship games last weekend. Bayantel, INKRITE, Homer's Cagers, Trace Red and Karrglas clinched championship titles in five separate divisions. A total of 72 corporate teams and ballclubs entered the league which started April 19, 2006. Games are held at Metro Gym and Reyes Gym in Mandaluyong City.

The Veteran Homer's Cagers of businessman Homer Go captured the Division C Crown against team R.H. Bimbo 77-74 in a tight see-saw battle ending in buzzer beater three-point conversion by Neil Reina that gave Homer the win.

Bayantel of Dicky Liwanag grabbed the Division D title over Q-Team of Rio Saludares 72-63. While Trace Red escaped with a 72-69 victory over ELPS team of Larry Dagohoy for the Division F Crown.

INKRITE led by team owner Henry Luna maintained a balanced offensive to outclass John Cardell of team Epoch Audio 67-55 taking the Division E championship trophy

By now defending Division G champions Don Bosco Alumni of brothers Paul and Peter Gonzalez have become accustomed to playing in overtimeeverytime they play championship games at Metro. This time however, they lost 92-95 in triple overtime to new entry team Karrglas.

MBT Commissioner Nilo C. Fernandez was present during the games and awarding ceremonies. MBT is the fastest growing amateur basketball league in Metro Manila today. The league was sponsored by Sunbolt Sports Drink, Inkrite, Apo Floors, Molten, Solar Sports and The Basketball Show.

The 3rd conference, the METRO OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - HOOP WARS is scheduled to start August 26, 2006. Registration is now open.
