A thread to discuss Tamaraw recruits and how they are doing.

FEU Team B has a long limbed 6'8" chinito player. Any word on the guy?

Tila yata nagbalik sa Morayta si Ron Ryan Cabagnot, ang Bisayang Am-Boy na minsan naging gameface.ph player of the month. Maganda pinakita niya nung huling FMC playdate kontra Ateneo B. Pati si bagong matangkad magandang nilaro, panalo ang FEU B 75-62.

I'm just eager to know kung saan galing itong 6'8 chinito guy,is he a better version or a second coming lang ni Don Yabut?mukhang nakalusot to sa mga scouts ng taga Taft at Katipunan, can anyone share their info?THANKS

an african player ala sam ekwe has been practicing with welcoat's PBA team and is said to be serving his residency for FEU in the coming UAAP this season. well if i am to beleive welcoat's staff, FEU is about to land a gem of a player.

LION
03-15-2007, 05:15 PM
Is this the 6'5 - 6'6 lanky guy with the afro? He's been around for quite a while. Ron Ryan Cabagnot is stronger than him. Saw him play and I don't think he'll be an impact player.

Well, there are two dark-skinned players in the FEU pool right now. One is Robert Kave from Papua New Guinea. I saw him play against UP last Sunday. He's a high school graduate but will still need to serve the two-year residency. I don't think he'll be an impact player. I saw the other dark player watching from the sidelines, and I was told he's a recruit from Cameroon. He was sitting when I saw him, so I had no way to gauge his height. But he looked pretty well-built. He will also need to serve the two-year residency.

I didn't see Cabagnot play, though. What's the news on him?

Any news on the Tamarraws' line-up this coming UAAP season?Havent heard of anything signifant since the team was disbanded last year because of poor showing during last years' UAAP season.

Joescoundrel

Ron Cabagnot is still a pretty good player to have in the FEU rotation because he brings size and athleticism to the 2-guard spot. His spotty ballhandling is an issue though, as is his matador defense, and he is still overwhelmingly one-handed. Still, there is always room for a guy with his overall skill set especially in the very athletic FEU lineup.

The two darkies from Papua and Cameroon look ready to suit up for the Tamaraws over the next couple of seasons. There is nothing to get excited about with these two as of yet though, since it seems they are raw as far as basketball skills are concerned. They have length, leap and some size but there isn't any impact there yet.

As is the FEU Tamaraws have a lot going for them in Season 70. They will have a tall lineup across the board even with the newcomers, and if the Cameroon guy has completed his residency then he will add even more size and athletic ability to the team. There may be other aspirants still sweating it out at the R Papa gym, something worth looking into during the summer tournaments.

From what I heard, this guy from Cameroon is something to be excited about for the Tams. Yun nga lang 2 year residency pa yan. So medyo matagal pa.

About 6'2-6'4, plays the 2/3 spots. Supposedly with mad handles and mean hops. Allegedly a high school teammate of UCLA's Mbah a Moute. A member of the Tams staff compares his play to Tony Harris.

Some notes about the tuneup game versus Ateneo at the Moro Center over the weekend:

JR Gerilla has blossomed into one of the best post players in the UAAP and he has gotten bigger and stronger. Last year he was one of those lean and long types, around 6-foot-5 and maybe 190 pounds playing more 4 than 5. Now he looks almost 6-foot-6 and seems to be a buff 200-plus pounds, and he has become more comfortable as a 5, giving the tams an athletic center, something they last had in the championship years of Mark Isip. Gerilla's gotten footwork in and around the lane, and from box to box has improved a lot. He now changes directions more easily either east-west or north-south, his laterals have improved, and his fadeaway and drop step are practically impossible to stop one on one.

Marnel Barachael is the closest thing FEU has to a "total package" type of player, something like a Jeff Chan or RJ Rizada. Barachael does not quite have the trigger nor the aim of these departed Tamaraw gunners but he's close. What he does do much better than they is handle the ball and defend. Chan and Rizada were at best average defenders one on one who were grateful for the shotblocking of Gerard Jones, Arwind Santos and Mark Isip over the years. Barachael could be the best "tall" guard in the UAAP right now, even better than the converted perimeter guys of Santo Tomas.

Benedict Fernandez will surprise the shit out of players who underestimate his speed and court sense. A lot of people said he will never be a fulltime pointguard for a program as deep and talented as FEU's. Lo and behold he was very successful and in total control of his team's play at the 1 spot for at least 24 game minutes while he was on the floor.

Among the new guys Cawaling and Babilonia seem to be the most UAAP ready right away. These two were comfortable playing within the system of Coach Glen Capacio and were not forcing the issue or forcing plays their way. Former Baby Tam Yenz Knuttel needs a bit more seasoning and focused skill development to make it as a college guard, as he was constantly taken to school by the Ateneo backcourt men.

Some questions: Where the heck were Vinluan and Afable? Have they been dropped from the team?

Walang Babilonia sa FEU team. Si Vinluan nag-emigrate na sa America. Si Afable pwedeng makabalik sa team. Yun #20 ay si Cervantes. FEU will play DLSU tomorrow sa Filoil.

That Cervantes fellow is going to be a force to reckon with at the post if he learns to be productive with both hands. He has great strength, speed and some footwork.

There is a Babilonia on the 2004 - 05 line up i think but you already knew this. He was the niece of UE assistant coach and former player Guido Babilonia. Transferred to UE at thye beginning of the 2006 season. Never made an impact.

And i know this is not the guy you guys are speaking about. ;D

Hi guys, im very positive about the team. I can say that they have an "intact" line-up for season 70. They have the height and speed but the weakness might be the experience of the team. I hope that the team will transform to a really solid team come UAAP 70.

Starting 5 (my opinion)
Fernandez
Cabagnot
Baracael
Cervantes (very promising 4/5 player)
Gerilla

a pretty tall line-up and i find it really something to look forward too.

Off the bench:
Cawaling (6th man)
Barroca / Knuttel (from FERN)
Yaya (from FERN)
Adolfo
Tanuan
Abaring
Vinluan

FEU line-up with 7 rookies in the roster

Question:
Will RB Mangahas suit for the Tams? I hope they'll just let go of Soc because I don't think he'll make it big in the seniors Division. Mangahas (FERN) - i think he needs one more year preparation. Who's the 6'8" guy you were reffering?

Dark Knight
06-06-2007, 11:23 AM
Nice line up Lyndon. But i would like Cawaling take the starting 5. Is RB Mangahas the one in the line up last year. Roser Mangahas. I hope the team re activates him. He is a good post player with a decent 3 point shot. He has the heft and height.

Yes, let go of Soc, he might be just all hype and no substance in the seniors.

lyndon_24
06-06-2007, 12:43 PM
^ yup RB Mangahas was in the line-up last year. I hope that he'll have a spot for the final line-up for this season. If RB Mangahas will play for us in Season 70 then I think we'll have a more solid starters.

Fernandez (PG)
Cabagnot (G)
Baracael (F)
RB Mangahas (PF)
Gerilla (C)

I hope that our rookies will mature enough in the brand of play in the UAAP though I think it will take 2-5 games. But I hope they'll familiarize themselves well. I'm really looking forward to Cawaling, Cervantes and Cabagnot as our top rookies this season.

NU is our first opponent in season 70. I know that NU has an intact line-up and will be a really hard opponent for all the UAAP teams. I just hope that the Tams will start the season with a win. Green and Gold will surely parade to Araneta on the Opening Day.

GO FIGHT TAMARAWS! ;)

i mean an intact rookie-laden team. as what i've said the team only lacks experience but they have the talent and athleticism to be really competetive. As what the commentator (Boom) said in their game a while ago in the NSL. FEU is really a crown-contender this year in the UAAP.

i think he still needs a year or two of residency. maybe the time that we'll be hosting the UAAP. Season 72.

Anyway about their game earlier against MIT which they won, I saw a lot of talented rookies in our line-up. Cawaling, Barroca, Sanga, Cervantes and Ramos were really impressive. Cabagnot was given a limited time. I don't know if coach Glen is keeping him or what. Then Gerilla is really a force to reckon with in the middle plus the support of Baracael, Fernandez and Adolfo. Most improved was Gerilla. Nice job!

there seems to be a contradiction of terms here.

but back to the topic, FEU would definitely be one of the teams to watcht this year, and is definitely a dark horse to get into the Final Four. Though I wouldnt go so far as saying that FEU is a contender, because as you said, the lack of experience not only of the players but the new coach as well would probably be a hurdle for them.

paul_tamaraws
06-06-2007, 05:56 PM
@ BigBlue: like you said, they dont have the experience, but these young guns had the talent, i was impress with some of the rookies like barroca, cervantes and their "sixth man" jr cawaling, cawaling was the youngest in FEU's line-up, he was only 17 years old, and will be playing for 5 years in the UAAP, he reminds me of a young l.a. tenorio when he was a rookie for the ateneo blue eagles, cawaling has that gutsy move and also a 3-point specialist just like l.a used to do, expect these rookies to sizzle hot in the upcoming uaap wars...

Robert Kave graduated from FERN HS and have one more year to complete a 2-yr residency.

He came in as a raw talent but picked up quickly on training and dedicated to learn from his coaches. I think in the right time, he will be a force to reckon with.

well, the kid is now actually closer to 6'11"...medyo payatot nga lang - mga 210 lbs yata...he is a project so we are looking for takers in division 2...he was at a showcase last week but failed to impress the way baby japs did when he came here...medyo mabagal ang bata...needs conditioning which the trainer will give...i was aware that coach norman was not impressed by the boy when he had his chance...will try to bring the boy to an intercity this labor day weekend in d.c...

I believe this was the very tall boy spotted in and around the FEU gym a couple years ago. He saw some action with their B Team in the smaller Fil-Chi community tournaments often held at the FEU gym. He reminded me a lot of Francis Bacon, the gangly 6-foot-8 kid who saw action for one of the smaller u-belt schools. At that time this Jerik De Guzman kid was maybe 6-foot-7, skinny, easily winded, although the coaches said he didn't smoke and tested out pretty healthy. His main problem was he got so used to playing against much smaller kids in his hometown and never really got into organized ball, tipong mga ligang kalye lang. Needless to say when he got banged up by the likes of Arwind Santos and Mark Isip and Dom Yabut and Francis Barcellano in practice and scrimmages he rpetty much got the ever-living shit kicked out of him. Since the Tamaraws then had plenty of bigs in the pipeline i.e. Vinluan, Gerilla, Afable, Cervantes, they sort of just figured they had no room for De Guzman.

if he keeps growing past 18 and his facial bones starts to enlarge, have him checked right away if he has a pituitary disorder just like 7'3" Raul Dillo. if he has it, then he needs to be operated on just like 7'9" Sun MingMing , otherwise, he will always be tired , slow and he will die at a* young age due to health complications.
after sunmingming's operation, he became faster and stronger.

why dont they enroll him again in high school for 2 more years kasi high school graduates in the US are on average 18 to 19 years old(2 years more kasi ang high school sa amerika) para naman hindi mabigla si Jericho when he plays in US college ball........

Here's something I found in the Interbasket forums. Posted by someone named "Advincula":

Not sure if whom i saw was this kid, Jericho. Previously, I've read that there was a sighting of this kid in one suburb of Chicago. Seeing a kid about taller than 6'9", positively Pinoy, made me wonder if in fact, whom i saw yesterday was the same. This is kid is relatively skinny, typical of teenagers. Very light in built, not even 200lbs, with a rather unusually small head. His moves are smooth, one can describe as normal, and fluid, not a hint of being gangly and awkward. I saw him at Stratford Square Mall, here at the western suburbs in Chicago, eating at a fastfood center with a group of Pinoys, three of them women and one unusually very tall and athletic looking Pinoy male about 6' 3" or more. Regrettably, I did not get to the bottom of things, but surely will if chance is given another time.

Two tall cagers join RP youth

Sunday, March 16, 2008

Coach Franz Pumaren has added two new finds in the Nokia RP Youth training pool from where he’ll get his team for the 2008 SEABA youth championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in May.

The new additions are 6-foot-5 Ian Paul Mendoza Sangalang and 6-foot-6 John Dexter Elfante Maiquez both from Lubao, Pampanga.

Pumaren advised the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas leadership of his new recruits before leaving for the United States Friday.

If the SBP can expedite the necessary arrangements, Sangalang and Maiquez would be able to join the pool in its two-week training in Carson City, California.

Members of the pool were to follow Pumaren in the US yesterday. Sangalang and Maiquez are committed to play for Far Eastern U. They’re offered to youth team by SBP regional director Gil Cortez.

“The two players impressed coach Franz and they’re now part of the youth pool. My initial analysis is that the team needs a good shooter, too,” said SBP executive director Patrick Gregorio.

The youth team has gained some exposure in the ongoing PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup. – Nelson Beltran

I think these two boys are not with the RP Youth team. Either that or their heights are exaggerated, because the Mendoza on the team is Joseph of NU, a 6'4" power forward. The only player near enough to a legit 6'6" is Papot Paredes of Cagayan.

Perhaps these two boys are actually with the NBTC Luzon...? If so then they can play for FEU because as far as I can recall only the regular RP Youth teamers were obliged to put the Youth team ahead of their school leagues.

Will these two perhaps see action for FEU in either the Fil-Oil or Fr Martin (if they are on Team B) ... ?

Cameroonian forward Pipo Nuondoo brought them back into the fight while Ryan Roose Garcia sealed the win. FEU B edged San Beda B 65-57 to enter the Finals of the Fr Martin Cup Division II. Nuondoo started off slow and missed five straight outside jumpers in the first half as FEU fell behind by as much as 10 points at 34-24. But he came alive starting late in the third period to pull the Tamaraws into the lead at 41-40 with a one-hander in the lane against San Beda's American import Sudan Daniels.

In the last minute and a half Maui Decena was called for a technical foul and a personal foul on Garcia all in one play with the Tamaraws up 57-55. Garcia sank four straight pressure freethrows for a 61-55 count. Garcia missed a three-pointer after San Beda made a basket but Nuondoo grabbed the offensive board over Daniels and brought it back out to Garcia. Garcia sank the last couple of freethrows for the final count.

Nuondoo led FEU B with 16 points and nine boards while Garcia had 13 points.

UC Junior Basketball Standout Marty John Pearce Pursued by UE, UST and FEU

Marty John Pearce is creating a name for himself in the CeSAFI junior basketball competitions and Manila schools are starting to take notice. The University of the East Red Warriors, Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers will soon be engaged in a tug-of-war for the services of the dynamic guard prospect from the University of Cebu Webmasters juniors basketball team. Will he be the next Jan Colina?

FEU will have a towering and highly athletic and versatile frontline for Season 72, given all the good things shown by the likes of Cervantes, Nuondoo, Abaring, Eguiloz in the Fr Martin, the return of Vinluan and that 6'9" African boy waiting in the wings. They've also got a tall corps of swingmen in Cawaling, Sanga and Tanuan. They may need to look into replacing Fernandez and Adolfo at the combo-guard spots though, because Escaminiano, Barroca and Knuttel are on the small side if they will be asked to play both 1 and 2. Garcia however is a pure pointguard gem and should contend for the ROY award. They look headed to the FMC Open title.

Garcia, Nuondoo, Eguiloz should be big hits in the UAAP in Season 72.

Apparently, Escoto will have to wait for another year. The brother of Samigue is coming in. Mangahas is no longer waiting... to be a Tamaraw. Coach Potit de Vera is said to be getting in touch with Tamaraws who do not have a place in the roster.

Arellano B survived a searing end-game rallye by FEU B to take the FMC Division II championship 62 - 57, their theirs straight FMC Title this year, at the La Consolacion Gym in Manila.

With 6'7" African import Chuck Mammi working hard on both ends of the floor, the Chiefs built as much as a 48-32 lead late in the third period.

FEU however came storming back on the turned-up plays of former NCAA players Ramil Ortuoste, Tonton Bringas, Anjoe Latonio and Clarence Foronda. Bringas and Foronda manned up on Mammi and drew the ire of several Arellano frontliners for his rugged and tough play. Ortuoste fired away form outside. Bringas knotted the count at 49-all midway through the fourth period.

Mammi however had a one-man 9-0 run to give the Chiefs the 59-50 separation with time under three minutes. Ortuoste and Bringas again tried to bring FEU back into it along with Ian Macaso but fell short.

Ortuoste led all scorers with 22 points including five treys, while Mammi had 20 points to go with 13 boards and four blocks.

FEU FERN B cruised past Lasalle Greenhills 97 - 83 for their first ever Fr Martin Cup championship at the La Consolacion Gym in Manila.

FERN was in control all throughout behind the efforts of Mark Carino and Chris Gelig on the firing end, and the rebounding and inside defense of Will Pearson.

Greenhills tried to come back, putting on several small runs, the last bringing the count at 62-58 late in the third period behind Mark Vito and Richie Villaruz.

Carino and Gelig however kept Lasalle at bay with timely hits from outside and quick transition strikes to keep the count at 83-70 midway through the last period.

Several Villaruz miscues and unforced errors sealed the fate of Lasallle just when they were threatening to make one last comeback at 85-78.

Carino and Gelig had 18 points each for FERN while Villaruz had 15 for Lasalle.

Another close win for Adamson, another close loss by FEU. Adamson survived an ugly, beat-down game against FEU to escape with the 54-52 victory in ongoing FMC Open action at the Arellano Gym in Legarda.

FEU could not put its superior size and athleticism against Adamson. Alex Nuyles and Jeric Canada were simply carving up the FEU defense with their speed and athleticism. In the highly-anticipated match-up of the two African imports, Pipo Nuondoo had the better stats but Austin Manara came away with the more important W. Canada gave the Falcons their first double-digit lead at 30-19 early in the third period with a hyper-speed slash to the rack.

FEU fought back behind the strength inside of Reil Cervantes and the perimeter genius of RR Garcia. Paul Sanga however was not finding his range, and outside of Garcia, no other FEU pointguard was getting the job done. Their pick-and-roll offense however was not materializing in the high triangle offense and Garcia had to bail them out with one-on-one plays.

NCAA recruits Tonton Bringas, Anjoe Latonio and Clarence Foronda were listless all game long, although Bringas, older brother of Lasalle's Arvie, showed a lot of strength and hustle off the defensive boards, and even went up strong against Adamson's African import Austin Manara. Former Staglet Ramil Ortuoste did not see any action.

In the end-game, Canada scored on a difficult layup off a high pick-and-roll while Cervantes botched two freethrows with only three seconds left to seal the Adamson victory.

Garcia had more than half the FEU output with a game-high 27 points but got little to no help from his guys, while Nuyles had 18 for the Falcons.

I don't disregard the possibility of Arvie Bringas suiting up for the Tamaraws afterall Anthony Bringas is already there. However, I am not sure if he can suit up for the Tamaraws on Season 74.

UAAP Rules requires 2-year residency for a player who already played with one UAAP team and later on transferred to another UAAP team.

If Arvie Bringas will indeed suit up for the Tamaraws, he will only be allowed to play on Season 75. he needs to sit our Seasons 73 and 74.

Sa Soc Rivera Rule lang nagma-matter ang release papers ng school of origin. Which is not Arvie's case.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

1. Transfer Students
1. From UAAP Member University
1. An undergraduate transferee who is an athlete (regular or training team) from a UAAP member University must establish two (2) years – meaning 730 calendar days of continuous residency in such Member University.
2. The resident years of an athlete will be counted as two (2) playing years if he/she transfers to another Member University.
3. Athletes who transfer from a UAAP Member University to another UAAP Member University shall only be required to establish one-year residency instead of two (2) years if such athletes are voluntarily released with a written clearance by the concerned UAAP Member University.

Bringas could just repeat freshman year since I heard he flunked almost all his subjects at DLSU anyway. I suppose there's no need for release papers in that case. I think what Bro. Oca was referring to is that rule mentioned above (first time I heard it though) that if Arvie gets good grades at FEU this year he will need only one year, instead of the usual two, with the release from DLSU.

That is not allowed. Since everyone knows Arvie was enrolled in DLSU last year, he cannot use his HS papers to enrol. He needs the transfer from DLSU to enrol in another college/university.

MANILA---The last coach to steer Far Eastern University to the UAAP championship is back at the helm.

Bert Flores, who mentored the 2005 champion squad powered by Arwind Santos, hopes to bring his winning touch anew this season when the Tamaraws go for another shot at the men’s basketball crown.

Flores will be assisted by former pro standouts Johnny Abarrientos, Victor Pablo and Richie Ticzon. Jorge Gallent, the head coach of B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados, will act as consultant.

SANDUGO COLLEGIATE DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE SET

Manila - Is there room for one more summer varsity basketball tournament? Nino Singco, a veteran of developmental basketball and sports development, certainly thinks so. "We thought there should be a tournament exclusively for the B Teams, a real developmental tournament," he explained.

Singco, the moving force behind the highly successful Futures Basketball League for kids, teamed with the very popular outdoor footwear and apparel maker Sandugo, to put together the Sandugo Collegiate Developmental League. They open on Monday 4 April at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila at 12:30 PM; admission is free and open to the public.

Seeing action in the tournament are the B Teams of Adamson University, Far Eastern University, and the College of St Benilde; also seeing action are STI College, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Colegio De Santa Monica and Trinity University of Asia. "We hope to give as many teams as possible exposure in the CDL," Singco said.

Opening day games pit St Benilde versus TIP at 2:00 PM followed by the 4:00 PM main game between Santa Monica and Adamson.

FEU TAPS POGOY
University of Cebu standout shines in two-day tryouts of former UAAP champion team
By Jonas Panerio
Cebu Daily News
8:12 am | Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws have landed the wingman that they have coveted as they snagged University of Cebu (UC) standout Roger Pogoy after staging their tryouts recently at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym.

This was enthusiastically announced by FEU head coach Bert Flores in an interview yesterday. He said that the 6-foot-3 Pogoy will most likely land in the varsity squad after impressing him during the two-day tryouts held two weeks ago.

“Dako kaayog purohan na he will have a slot in Team A. He could very well be the future of the squad especially with six players from the squad graduating next year. We really need a wingman right now and his versatility will greatly help the team,” said Flores, who has assumed the head coaching job once again with the departure of former head coach Glenn Capacio.

The last time that the Tamaraws have hoisted the UAAP crown was in 2005, when the Arwind Santos-led squad captured the tail-end of a vaunted three-peat.

The team this season is loaded with talent led by reigning MVP RR Garcia and Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo. They also have JR Cawaling, Aldrech Ramos, Pipo Nuondou, Jens Knuttel and former La Salle ace, Arvie Bringas, among others.

The last time that a Webmaster was snatched up by FEU was several years ago when crafty guard Marty John Pearce was recruited by the Tamaraws. Pearce went on to play for FEU for one season.

Arvie Bringas will be the most help to the FEU cause by the time the summer tournaments roll around, but he needs to lose about 10-12 pounds of unwanted fat and build his body back up to the lean and muscular form it was coming out of Baste high school. Speaking of Baste high school, Gino Juamo-as needs to rediscover his driving and pull-up game to contribute to the FEU cause, because if Jumao-as is not scoring or keeping opposing defenses honest he is not going to be of help in anything else.

Kyle Primo is already eligible this July. While Valencia and B. Santos most likely will be fielded in Season 78. They just have to, maybe, bulk up a little more.

Meet Big Beau's little brother:
FEU aspirant BJ Belga insists he is not as physical during games
From: Reuben Terrado
•May 7, 2014, 03:04 pm

A BILLY Joe Belga is playing for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the Filoil preseason tournament. And yes, he's the brother of Rain or Shine enforcer Beau Belga.

An 18-year-old high school graduate out of Sorsogon, Billy Joe, or BJ to his teammates and coaches, is part of the Tamaraws roster in the preseason and hopes to crack the team's lineup in the coming UAAP campaign.

Although he wears big brother's No. 30 jersey, the younger Belga readily made it clear that he doesn’t play with the same kind of physicality that the Rain or Shine star has become known for in the PBA.

“’Yung pagka-brusko niya, hindi masyado. Pero ‘yung galaw, halos pareho lang daw po,” Billy Joe, who stands 6-foot-2, told Spin.ph after FEU's game on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Interestingly, BJ said Beau had very little influence on his basketball skills. In fact, he said he started playing basketball much earlier than his older brother, who he said was actually a volleyball player before being recruited by Philippine Christian University in the NCAA to jumpstart his basketball career.

“Mas nauna pa akong maglaro ng basketball sa kanya,” said BJ, the youngest among three siblings with Beau the eldest. “Siya kasi, fourth year high school na, ako elementary pa lang. Na-impluwensyahan lang si kuya ng mga barkada niya kasi matangkad siya.

“Maliit pa lang ako, basketball na talaga hilig ko,” he added.

Asked how he ended up playing in Manila for the Tamaraws, BJ said he was spotted by a former teammate of his older brother in an open tournament in Sorsogon.

“Naglaro ako sa open tournament sa probinsya namin. ‘Yung import namin, dating teammate ni kuya tapos kilala rin si (FEU) coach Nash (Racela). Sabi niya, 'Nandito ‘yung kapatid ni Beau.' Hindi sila nag-dalawang-isip. After graduation, pinapunta nila ako sa FEU,” said BJ.

The younger Belga, however, knows he still has to work his way up in his first season with FEU. He has played only limited minutes for the Tamaraws in preseason tournaments and has a lot of work to do in order to break the UAAP lineup.

“Focus lang daw ako sa depensa kaya ako, sinusunod ko lang,” said BJ.

BJ, who unlike Beau usually plays the 2-guard position, said his big brother had only once piece of advice to him - and it has nothing to do with basketball.

“Sabi nga niya, mag-aral ako. Mag-focus daw ako sa pag-aaral tapos second na ‘yung basketball,” said BJ.

If he plays like Big Beau, then he's an asset to the team, just hoping he's faster than his brother,

Axel Inigo skips Adamson Falcons' stint in University Games, could be moving to FEU to join brother Achie
From: Reuben Terrado
•November 14, 2014, 03:45 pm

After a tough stint with the Falcons, former San Beda Red Cub Axel Inigo may be eyeing a move to a contender.

AXEL Iņigo might not suit up for the Adamson Falcons in the UAAP and could move to Far Eastern University where his older brother Achie is playing, sources told Spin.ph.

Adamson team manager Gilbert Cruz confirmed the younger Iņigo has told management he is leaving after two seasons with the Falcons, who already have a lean backcourt.

Cruz said Iņigo was not with the team in the University Games and in a recent exhibition game with the PBA Legends in Mindanao.

“Delikadong wala na siya sa team kasi biglang nagpaalam na ayaw na niya,” said Cruz.

Iņigo averaged 4.4 points, which is already third-best for the struggling Falcons who finished with only one win in Season 77.

Cruz said he doesn’t know where Iņigo is heading but sources told Spin.ph the former San Beda Red Cub could be headed to the Tamaraws.

FEU athletic director Mark Molina said Axel has yet to join the team, and he has advised Inigo’s parents to secure a release from Adamson if he intends to move to the Tamaraws.

“We advised his father to get release from Adamson if he wants to transfer,” said Molina.

Cruz said head coach Kenneth Duremdes and Iņigo's father will meet to discuss matters.

“Ang alam ko, mag-uusap pa si coach Kenneth at ’yung ama niya kung ano talaga,” said Cruz.

Philippines Scholarship Awarded

Featured

IARFA_building

At our latest High Performance Camp at the ASB Sports Centre in Wellington New Zeaand we were honoured to be able to host Coach Josh Reyes and Coach Nash Racela from the popular Gilas Philippine National team. Gilas Philippine became famous for their ability at the recent World Cup in Spain putting in strong performances against the best teams in the world despite being severely undersized.

These coaches were also on the lookout for potential players to recruit to university scholarship programmes in the Philippines and had heard about the talent and ability of our academy players, and their application in the classroom as well as between the lines of the basketball court.

As a result of their attendance at the camp we are proud to announce that camp attendee and Rangitoto College 5 ft 11 point guard Joseph Nunag has been offered a “full ride” scholarship to study and play basketball at Far Eastern University In Manila. Joseph was the starting point guard for Rangitoto last year who made it to the semifinals of the national secondary schools championship. Joseph’s teammate at Rangitoto College and another NZBA athlete Tai Wynyard has just signed a letter of intent with the Kentucky Wildcats of the NCAA.

Far Eastern University is the premier programme in the Phillipines with the record for the most national university championships and the most alumni of any school playing in the PBA (national professional league), so this is an excellent opportunity!

FEU Baby Tams top scorer, three other recent high school graduates vying for spots in UST Tigers’ UAAP squad
From: Reuben Terrado
•April 23, 2015, 06:45 pm

FOUR recent high-school graduates are now in the University of Santo Tomas pool, vying for spots in the Tigers’ UAAP team for Season 78.

Marvin Lee of Far Eastern University-Diliman, Jasper Magno of San Sebastian, and San Beda’s Evan Foraque and Norrish Decapia of San Beda have joined the Tigers, according to coach Bong de la Cruz.

“Nasa pool na sila para sa Team A,” said De la Cruz, who has tapped the four young players for the Filoil preseason tournament.

“Kailangan din ng mga bata ’yung exposure sa Filoil,” the second-year UST coach added.

Lee led the Baby Tamaraws last season in scoring and three-point conversions with 11.5 points per game and 22 made triples respectively, while Magno was the second leading scorer for the Staglets last year, averaging 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 1.4 assists per contest.

Furaque (11.9 points, six rebounds) and Decapia (6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists) were part of the Red Cubs squad that won six straight titles in the NCAA.

The four will join highly-touted Zachary Huang of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, who helped the Magis Eagles win the recent National Basketball Training Center finals against the Red Cubs.

Dito nalang muna, since wala pang related thread: There's an offer to a 6'2" high-flying wingman Fil-Am based in Cebu. The kid can play for 2 seasons. He's still weighing his options since the offer is not even close to how much he is currently receiving in Cebu.
