I don't know about you but from what one of the coaches told me, only 10 are sure of cracking a spot in Team Animo. So which means, there are still five slots left and the roster isn't final yet.

You can take out Mike Burtscher. He's out of the den. I wish him well.

Bakit wala pa sila Taupa at Sugitan sa lineup? Hindi pa sila eligible o laglag na talaga sila sa Beda?

Suguitan is out of Team A this year.

Si Taupa baka pwede pa sa Team A (he was asked to join the team in Cebu after Burtscher left).

NCAA preview: Knights re-form the line

Colegio de San Juan de Letranís sheer talent propelled the team to the National Collegiate Athletics Association menís basketball crown last season.

With the new season of the oldest collegiate cage league in the country set to unfurl on June 24 at the Araneta Coliseum, the Knights will be without some of the key players that helped them captured their 16th title in the menís basketball tournament.

The 82nd season of the NCAA will be the baptism of fire for the new recruits of Letran, which goes up against host school College of Saint Benilde in opening game at 2 p.m.

Last year Letran won all but one of its games in the eliminations, losing only to chief nemesis Mapua Institute of Technology for an impressive 13-1 win-loss mark.

The Knights were headed for a clean sweep of the eliminations before the Cardinals halted their 11-game winning streak.

Letranís dominance continued in the Final Four round as it walloped San Sebastian College-Recoletos to gain entry in the finals.

The Knightsí title run was jeopardized when Philippine Christian University stole Game 1 of the best-of-three in the Finals with a 79-74 win, but Letran secured the last two games to give coach Louie Alas his third title with the Knights.

Letran will be losing John Paul Alcaraz, Jonathan Aldave, Billy Anabo, Mark Andaya, Frederick Rodriguez and Jonathan Pinera in the coming season.

Their departure left a huge hole in their title-retention bid and Alas will surely need a lot of talent to fill up the vacated slots.

Alas will miss Aldave and Anabo, who are both excellent finishers in fast break plays. Starting point guard Boyet Bautista is also expected to play longer minutes again after his trusty reliever Alcaraz has ran out of playing years.

The exit of Rodriguez, Andaya and Pinera created a huge hole on Letranís defense.

Rodriguez, a noted enforcer in the shaded lane, and Pinera used to provide the heft and bulk for Letran while 6-foot-9 Andaya was a trusted rebounder for the Knights.

Bautista and last yearís Most Improved Player Aaron Aban will spearhead the Knightís attack, with a supporting crew who saw action in the Knightís championship last year that includes Mark Anthony Balneg, Bryan Faundo, Rafael Joey Jazul, John Carl Melegrito, Hafer Mondragon, Andro Gil Quinday and Michael John Realista.

Suiting up for Letran for the first time include Fiel Dino Daa, Reynaldo Dangcal Jr., Kirk Del Rosario, John Julien Foronda, Rey Francis Guevarra and Regin Ranises.

Dubbed as Knights in honor of its founder and Knight of Malta, Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero, Letran boasts of an impressive basketball history. The Knights currently hold the most number of senior menís basketball titlesóa record 16 NCAA titles.

Letran also managed a double championship in basketball twice, first in 1979-80 and then during the 1983-84 season.

Its championship streaks in the menís basketball include three successive championships that started in the 1982-83 season up to the 1984-85 season cage wars and back-to-back victories, one from the 1986-87 to 1987-88 seasons and again in 1998-99 to 1999-2000.

Since this team have the Urras and Trillo, who have a connection with DLSU's past, is Johnston in any way related to William "Billy" Johnston, who was a frontline player for DLSC during Lim Eng Beng's time?

what is the relation of Dave Najorda to Leo???

If you've seen Dave, he is unmistakably the brother of Leo. I'm not 100% sure he is, but judging by the looks, brothers sila. Leo, in my view that majority will share, is a far better player though.

who is Regin Ranises? is he a former cub?
No, Regin Ranises of the Letran Knights is the older brother of current Red Cub Rodel Ranises.* Both brothers will play in NCAA 82 for their respective schools.

Yes he is. Anak siya ni Billy Johnston. He is also a teammate of Leo Canuday back in Adamson during their Baby Falcon days.

Thanks, Bib. Can't help but go back in time and recall familiar names. Haven't seem him play but is he built like his dad or playing a different position, like Ritualo? The elder Billy was a 6-2 forward-center, more on the heavy side.

Honestly, I don't have a clear idea what position Billy will partake in CSB. But in Adamson, he used to play the 3 based from the games that I've seen him play (only 2 games though so I may be wrong with this) although I think he is quite undersized (in terms of height) to play that position in collegiate competition.
