THE NATIONAL Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Management Committee (ManCom) gave the newly refurbished Rizal Memorial basketball court a passing grade after conducting an inspection recently.
The ManCom, headed by Bernie Atienza of St. Benilde, is planning to stage its basketball and volleyball events at the decades old coliseum when the 82nd NCAA season unfurls in June.
Negotiations are still going on between ManCom and the Philippines Sports Commission, which is handling the operations of all facilities inside vast Rizal Memorial Complex.
"I highly recommend the use of the Rizal Memorial basketball court as the venue of the 82nd NCAA," said NCAA ManCom chairman Bernie Atienza.
Atienza was satisfied with the condition and appearance of the basketball court and was doubly pleased when learned that PSC promised to install an air-conditioning system in time for the opening of the country’s oldest collegiate league.
Saint Benilde is this year’s host.
Present during the inspection were other ManCom members, among them, Henry R. Atayde (CSB-LSGH), Alfredo A. Olano of the Philippine Christian University (PCU) and Michael L. del Mundo of the University of Perpetual Help DALTA (UPHD). They were joined by PSC Commissioners Joey Mundo and Bonifacio de Luna.
Basketball games were held at the Cuneta Astrodome last year.
