LET me just explain briefly about the EAC suspension in the NCRAA.HAIL was supposed to start early Nov. 2005, and the NCRAA was already moved to Jan. 2006 to avoid head on with the Sea Games. For the same reason, the HAIL was also delayed and started a week after the NCRAA.

it was too late for EAC to back out from HAIL. a letter to request to allow EAC to play in HAIL was turned down. assuring the NCRAA the commitment of EAC not to abandon the league with* EAC CAvite taking over in case EAC gets accepted in the NCAA. the participation of EAC in HAIL is part of our application to the NCAA.* Pulling out will definitely create uncertainty in our intention to join the NCAA. The NCRAA right now is our major league, however, if it will deprive us from further developing our sports program, then our stand is to face the consequences. Over and above, it is the best interest of the school that matters most.

our mission is not just to stay as champions in the UCAA, NCRAA or Unigames. Our goal is to conquer bigger challenges!

thanks for your comment about our basketbal program, it is a collective effort of the coaching staff, players and management. yes we will join the nike summer league fmc!

Congratulations to the Generals.

I am happy that they are gaining ground in Philippine Basketball. The General put it nicely when he said that they are up to bigger challenges ahead. Good Luck to your team, my personal favorite in your team is the high leaping Ron Buenafe. When we had a tune up game (EAC vs. STI) he drove to basket and scored on a dunk shot! (he finished the game with two dunks) Ang galing. Discovering talents like him will surely give Philippine Basketball a boost.

Hope our teams can play again this june.

thanks for your comments. i also admire how Coach vic has transformed STI into a title contender in the naascu. we will inform coach nomar about the tune-up games between our teams. im sure, he will be happy to welcome you guys in the eac sports center.
rj is currently playing for bacchus in nbc. he was the top scorer of their team vs. spring cooking oil. despite the loss, expect a lot of exciting moves to be executed by buenafe!

Trivia: Ronjay Buenafe was once on the NU roster...2002 yata...

Ronjay was a journey man. he went to NU as try-out, UE, UP, and CSB. he was tapped as practice player for the disbanded MBA batangas blades. he played for coach nomar in sta. ana summer league earlier before his stints in the teams mentioned. coach nomar told rj to consider EAC as his last option. so the story ends, when rj decided to try his luck in EAC. he is happy and looking forward to playing a couple more years in the amateur circuit.

thanks salsa for your query. ;D

I distinctly remember a player named Chito Jaime from Bataan who played in one of last year's summer tournaments for ADMU. This young man had quite a mature game already. A bit on the lean side for the 4 position but was very effective with his exceptional skills and athleticism. Curiously, I never saw him again after that and was told that he had transferred to EAC. Is he still playing or did he even get to play for EAC?

when the CDSL griffins disbanded coach isla took in chito jaime in the summer of last year along with jaime manansala jr. however, due to non compliance with team schedule, he was dropped from the team. from what we heard, he is back at cdsl and might move to amacu to play for his coach> boni garcia now the new mentor of amacu mens basketball team.

chito is really good. but he needs to focus on his priorities and not listen to too many people in deciding on his career.

thanks for your insight!

Saan na po naglalaro si Nino Songco? Bilib ako sa lakas at gulang nito, mismatch halos lahat ng bantay, demands double teams talaga.

Nino Songco used up all of his playing eligibility for EAC under the rules of the NCRAA and UCAA.* For school year 2005-2006, he transferred to Saint Clare College-Caloocan of the NAASCU wherein the eligibility rules simply state that a player may suit up until he does not turn 25.

Ferdinand Melocoton mysteriously disappeared from the EAC roster during the recent HAIL.* *???

Anthony Severino is correct. Songco has played his 5 years in the NCRAA, for the UCAA he is already over age last year. it was also his last year for st. claire. he is now working in a financing firm in manila. Niño is still practicing with the EAC Generals and will suit up in the team as reinforcement in coming PICAA along with ex EAC varsity Ace Castillo, Ryan Tejada, Carlo De Guzman and Bobet Samius Uy.

Bong has 1 year remaining in the UCAA. however, he is no longer practicing in the team. he will be concentrating in finishing his Com. Sci. degree till Oct. 2006. he is planning to try-out for Magnolia after this conference. Bong can be the next coming of Allan caidic. [size=10pt][/size

the jersey you saw was indeed belonged to NINO SONGCO. if you check the mezzanine area, we also have the framed jersey of songco with notation regarding his contributions in the EAC Generals.

thats a good question. for the longest time he played for the EAC Generals, it took a little time for him to hussle down and up the court for defense. when we played the championship match versus dlsu dasma last year in the UCAA. one of our assistant coaches told him about the game plan of dlsu dasma, ATTACK MELOCOTON, because they knew Bong is not a strong defender.bong was really challenged and made up for this impression on him. in the game, he foiled every 3 point attempt of his match up. he ran like he never ran before.

he realized that his points will not win championships, its his defense.....

EAC GETS BACK AT UP IN PICAA 2ND ROUND PLAY

Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) avenged its first round loss to the University of the Philippines (UP), 89-81, in the second round of the eliminations of the Philippine Integrated Chinese Athletics Association (PICAA) at the EAC Sports Complex in Ermita, Manila.

The Fighting Maroons, playing without veterans Marvin Cruz and Nestor David as well as prized recruit Woodward Co, hounded the Generals throughout the game.* Its rookie-laden line-up failed, however, to measure up against a team without injured starter Gester Ebuen, but reinforced by homecourt hero Nino Songco.* Ronjay Buenafe, who did not suit up for EAC during the first round game against UP, teamed up with Songco, the tandem scoring 10 and 9 points respectively as the Generals took the first quarter, 28-22.

The second quarter featured the Generals’s high-leaping newcomer, Nico Hubalde, youngest son of PBA legend Freddie Hubalde.* The young Hubalde scattered 8 points in the second quarter in a display of bold slashing skills, his last basket a soft put back of his own miss after he elevated over towering defenders as the half expired with EAC on top 49-39.

After receiving a generous dose of Coach Joe Lipa’s patented motivational technique, the Fighting Maroons started the second half with a more balanced attack.* Migs De Asis made all 3 free throws after being fouled attempting a 3-point shot and a trey to complement Ira Buyco who scored his own 6 points for the quarter while operating in the shaded lane.* Veejay Serios, who was the most consistent of the Fighting Maroons, scored a crucial basket for UP to threaten, 63-59, 3:45 left in the quarter.* The Generals, however, came back with a 9-6 spurt highlighted by a Buenafe converted steal and his fifth rainbow shot of the game to cap off a 14-point output for the quarter.

EAC seemed to be cruising to victory for most in the pay-off period, especially when Serios fouled out at the 4:18 mark.* UP, nonetheless, went on a 0-7 tear in the last 2 minutes to challenge anew, 86-81, as Martin Reyes drained a shot from beyond the arc and converted a Buyco steal.* Coach Nomar Isla calmly settled his wards and they scored the last 3 points of the game while UP went scoreless and Buyco fouled out in the final minute of the match.

EAC – 89:* Buenafe – 28, Songco – 18, Valderama – 13, Musni – 8, Hubalde – 8, Baybay – 8, De Guzmzn – 4, Castillo – 2, Manansala – 0, Tejada – 0,* Evangelista – 0

UP – 81:* Serios – 16, Buyco – 15, Sison – 10, Reyes – 10, Sorongon – 10, De Asis – 9, Braganza – 6, Epres – 3, Maniego – 2, Cacha – 0

the team line-up will be announced soon.... we are now regrouping after the tough battle in the father martin cup. the eac generals made it in the final 4 but fell short of a game to make it in the finals. for sure , the team will go for the defense of the UCAA crown. with the mvp ron jason buenafe to lead the generals again in its 3 straight UCAA championship, expect the return of bong melocoton, and several new comers..... watch out for our announcements... thanks for your query!

You are definely right about it... when the EAC Sports Center was completed in February 2004, the new basketball court has produced 3 straight championships >UCAA, Unigames and the NCRAA in a span of 6 months from August 2004 to January 2005. with an amazing 17 wins 0 loss in the UCAA. the following season, the EAC Generals only defended its UCAA crown. its not only the court that gave us the boost but also the combined efforts of the athletes and coaches, the support of the management and the eac community.

Right now we are playing in the Asian universities basketball championships here in daet , camarines norte. today , the Generals will play RTU for the right to make it in the final 4. EAC lost to Huaquiao in the game opener and won their second game vs. Aspac Indonesia 92-78.

The EAC Generals will only play in the NSL 2007. There is no invitation from Fil-Oil for such participation.
Our line-up will be something to look forward to. We will be fielding an almost new team. Expect a lot of surprises when we play our first game.....

* * *Actually, there was a very strong buzz last year that Ryan Arana would transfer to San Sebastian.* This was fueled by the fact that he would be spotted watching Stags' NCAA 82 games and then joining the team for their post-game activities like a team meal.* However, he denied it saying he was just friends with the Stags' coaching staff.

although ateneo dismantled EAC yesterday, i would like to give much praise to 2 of your players, nikko hubalde and #10 musni, it was my first time to catch EAC in action for a whole game and these 2 players easily scored against the more fancied ateneo team. although EAC lost big, these 2 players clearly showed they are a notch above and are at least at par if not even better than some of the UAAP players. hubalde had little trouble slashing while musni scored easily against the outstreched arms of rabah al hussaini and arao despite his height disadvantage. :)

i also thought that the referees totally overreacted when they threw out EAC head coach nomar isla for arguing a suspect traveling call on EAC general marvin graebel. there was no need for those technicals since coach isla wasn't hurling invectives at all but rather was just loudly making his point. the NABRO officials should just learn to live with differences of opinion.

With Gester Ebuen, Bong Melocoton, John Valderrama and Alain Musni still around the Generals will be championship contenders. It won't be as easy as the previous years but they're still tough and balanced. The addition of former SFACS star Jeff Lapitan will make life a little easier for Musni up front, as does the arrival of the German-born Marvin Graebel, a strong and tough power forward. Jeff Galang should finally emerge as a legit and fulltime star with the departure of Ronjay Buenafe. Ebuen, Valderrama and Melocoton are still the hottest three pairs of hands in the college game, as each of these gifted swingmen can score at will from practically anywhere on the court.

experince talaga kinukuha namin thats why we are playing at fmc div 2 at fmc summer league.

good luck s atin...

I heard that Ruel Jaybaybay 6'4" center from ACSAT has transfered to EAC. Is there any truth to this?

based on reliable source... jabaybay has expressed his interest to join eac generals. however, top officials of the general still have not responded or arranged a negotiation with jabaybay who is now in iloilo.

there are rumors spreading that acsat will disband due to financial reasons. if this will push thru, this will pave the way for the adoption of players of acsat to ucaa or any ncraa teams without any residency requirement as provided by the by laws of both leagues.

based on my sources also... the rumors you are talking about is about 90% true.

lets just pray that acsat lightnings will stay in the league.. they already established themselves as worthy contenders and this will also defuse their rivalries between the sfac doves and eac generals..

Is there any word yet if jabaybay really transferred to EAC? Ive also got a friend in team B, he's lastname is Arnaiz. I wonder if anyone can tell me how he's doing.

Which Ruel Jabaybay the best at EAC, he's a servicable big guy and will help bolster the Generals frontline.

On the other hand, feels sad for the rumor about ACSAT.

So... can jabaybay play right away? Is it true that theres a rule that states that if a team is dissolved then the players can transfer to other schools and play right away without any residensy?

yes, the ucaa and ncraa rules allows regular teams to adopt players from dissolved, terminated, teams declared leave of absence to play without the residency rule.

so jabaybay can play for EAC this season.

watch out NIKO PUPOS.....he is also moving next semester in EAC.

St Clare College of Caloocan bowed to UCAA powerhouse Emilio Aguinaldo College in the second day of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League zonals at the Makati Coliseum 65-62.

The Saints went up by as much as 10 points in the first half behind the scoring of 5-foot-10 swingman Mark Mustre and the play-making of 5-foot-7 pointguard Chester Opalia. But the Saints failed to continue on their march when 6-foot-4 NAASCU rookie of the year center Aries Parinas had to sit down early in the second period due to three personal fouls. 6-foot-3 power forward Jun Manio and 6-foot-5 center Ryan Borja tried to hold strong in the post when Parinas sat down.

EAC however leaned on veteran 6-foot-5 center Alain Musni's strength inside and the scoring of 5-foot-9 guard Argel Mendoza and 6-foot-2 forward Ace Quiambao. Musni used his veteran wiles to hold his position inside and get the tough rebounds and the post-up opportunities against the relatively leaner St Clare frontline. Mendoza and Quiambao went toe to toe against the St Clare perimeter.

In the third period 5-foot-8 guard Red Nacianceno, Opalia and 5-foot-10 guard Roy Coronel broke out on transition to bring St Clare back from a 32-36 deficit and go up 39-36. Parinas also came back and controlled the defensive boards apart from getting some inside scoring against the EAC interior; more importantly Parinas stayed away from foul trouble without sacrificing his defense.

The payoff fourth period however was touch and go with EAC busting out to knot the count at 62-all coming back strong from a 55-46 deficit. "Tiyagaan lang sa depensa," said one EAC assistant coach. With only 49 seconds left Musni split his charities to give EAC a 63-62 lead. St Clare bungled a chance to knot the count or grab back the lead when 6-foot-3 forward Richmond Sibal muffed two freethrows in the return play.

Musni sank two more freethrows for the final count, even as St Clare couldn't bungled at least two attempts to turn the outcome around.

Quiambao had 19 points to lead all scorers while Musni had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Parinas had 18 markers, 12 boards and two blocks for the Saints.

Erstwhile longtime head coach Nomar Isla resigned and was no longer on the bench. Isla resigned after EAC's African import - 17-year old 6-foot-6 forward-center Emanuel Mbe - decided to transfer to Coach Pido Jarencio's Santo Tomas University. Mbe was no longer with the team when they competed in the Uni Games in Dumaguete last week, although the talented African was still with the Generals during the wild card phase.
