I wonder what Edgerrin James and Mike Vanderjagt must be thinking right now?* ??? The year they leave the Colts for free agency, that's when they win the Super Bowl, heh. Tough luck guys.

Grossman should still be the starter next season for the Bears, but should be kept on a short leash. They should find someone who can push him for the starting job, so that he'll be more consistent knowing he could lose his spot as the starter. Griese and Orton aren't the answers to the back-up slots.

edge took the money... as for vanderjagt, that's another story...

Rest in peace, Anna Nicole Smith.

(People made fun of her or developed serious self-esteem issues because of her looks, but I always got the impression that despite her flaws, she was a pretty decent parent; and honestly, it's just never nice when someone dies.)

not just for pinoy boxing, but pinoy history. here's a guy who might posssibly become not just the best pinoy boxer of all time, but THE best boxer of all time. how often can we say that about a true red-blooded pinoy. how often do we have a pinoy who's the best in the world at something, sports or otherwise.

i truly believe that manny genuinely and sincerely loves his country. but he should realize that he can unite the country in a far more powerful fashion doing what he does best rather than by entering the dirty world of politics.

think it over, manny, please. after you beat barrera, chavez, casamayor and mayweather (in a catch-weight fight), then you can retire and ride off into the sunset.

The problem with this Manny Pacquiao is that he keeps on listening and following the advices of people who hover around tapos ang yayabang ng mga ito eh kung wala si Manny wala rin sila! Pacquiao should learn to say no sometimes.

In this light, I hope Pacquiao loses both his bid in the coming May elections and his next fight against a certain Solis this April so he and the vultures around him will get a reality check!

Regarding The People's Champ, maling decision talaga yang pagsabak niya sa pulitika.

however, bigblue also expressed an interesting angle to manny's electoral bid--that he's become battle-weary after all those big-time fights carrying not only the defense of his boxing titles but more significantly the nation's hopes and expectations. we can just imagine the pressure he's feeling each time he steps into the ring against mexican legends like marco antonio barrera and erik morales.

Whooaaa! DWXB, the station that dares to be different!

Funny, during that time, Fra Lippo Lippi was considered a "New Wave Band." Until they came to Manila that is..

What the heck.. XB was not meant to be popular. It was meant to be a cult-station. NU picked up where XB left, but the cult status could never be replaced. Never. With Major Tom on NU, lots of goupies jumped in. Well at least after that, punk and new wave gatherings were full of pretty faces. :D

My uncle was telling me stories the other day. Noong panahon niya, New Wave pa ang Introvoys at AfterImage. And there was this little thing in vogue then called "slam-dancing".

Pareng bfb, XB was on frequency 102.7. Gaya ng sabi ni danny, it was the station that dared to be different. During New Wave's heyday in the 80s, it was the only station that would play truly New Wave acts that other stations would never dare touch: The Care, The Smiths, Violent Femmes, The Clash, New Order (at least their less commercial hits like A Perfect Kiss and Leave Me Alone), Echo and the Bunnymen, The Sound to name a few.

Its very weak signal added to its cult-like status because you had to be very patient when you wanted to track down the signal. XB was definitely the station of the "in" crowd back then. It was also the first station to play such artists as Fra Lippo Lippi and Seona Dancing before other stations made them mainstream.

If you're a true child of the 80s, you would have surely listened to XB at one point in your life. The station folded up after EDSA 1 because it was sequestered by the PCGG. It was alleged that one of the silent owner was a Marcos crony.

to get a clear signal from 102.7 WXB, the best time is after a torrential downpour. that way, all the impurities in the atmosphere are washed off, and what you get is pure, static-free reception--the better to listen to hitherto unknown acts like the care, lords of the new church, cabaret voltaire, orange juice, and general public. tapos nun, magpa-tape ka ng mga recordings ng mga narinig mo sa XB dun sa A-Z records along anonas st., project 2. malamang suki si pio valenz dyan sa A-Z ;D

uy damni kong memories ng phoeix record store sa kamuning he he! yup, si attorney (tawag namin) sa may ari, he used to have his stuff in his home then rented an office across the street, un na ang naging phoenix record store..

although hindi ako bumibili ng plaka dun, ang dami kong naman nabenta kay attorney...i sold a collection of the stranglers, XTC, and a variety of frank zappa albums to name a few...pati coffee table books and *couple of oil paintings by danilo dalena...pang casino nung college days he he!

Kid,

They had a vast collection of LP records na pwede mong pa-tape.

believe it or not, buhay pa rin ang phoenix records sa kamuning! mukhang nag-branch out na si attorney to include old but still usable furniture items, antiques and assorted memorabilia. kasama pa rin ata dun yung mga ni-nenok ni brian sa bahay nila, mwahahaha!

Mahirap 'yan. This is a boon to those who cannot afford the subscription fees to, say, MIT's Tech Review.

But then again, pagdating sa religion, hindi masyadong laganap ang pagdi-digitize ng mga publications/journals nila. Ang magandang gawin siguro, kapag nagsa-cite ka ng entry from a web-based publication, make sure that that passage is properly cited as well. 'Yung tipong galing din sa isang refereed print publication.

May exegesis, may hermeneutics. Meron pa nung mga textual criticism, form criticism, Sitz-im-Leben and stuff. Labo nga eh. Hindi ko pa sinisimulan. Tapos kailangan isama yung original Greek translation ng NT Gospel text. Tapos aalamin mo pa kung chiastic or concentric yung pagkakasulat ng text saka yung grammar and syntax.

You guys forgot one classic local band, the identity crisis. My sanctuary, whispering castles were one of their few hits, rumorhazit that their second album sold only 60 plus copies which led to their disbandment (nabasa ko ata sa isang issue ng jingle :P nung 80's), the first album was a hard act to follow. I, luckily still have their first album in LP. :)

Favorite Beatles album, White, Abbey, Revolver,Help, Beatles for sale
Favorite Beatles song, Octopus' Garden, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, everything from the white album and all the songs sung by my favorite beatle, ringo(classic), every album has 1 george and ringo song, it was part of their clause.

That should give him at least an idea that di din siya gusto ng tao to run for public office.

Don't thank your angels yet..

He said in an interview in last night's news that he will be in the US training for his next match during the period for filing of candidacy, but it is not yet final that he will not run.

Let's all hope Roach keeps him in his gym until after the deadline for the filing of candidacy ends. ;D

RE: Gorres-Montiel fight.. I agree with bigfreeze.. kahit maganda condition ni Gorres nung laban, nagmukhang groggy sya nung last 3 rounds.. nadeduct pa nga siya ng 1 pt nung 11th? round for excessive holding. Montiel went all out because he knew it was gonna be a close fight, si Gorres hindi na nakasabay.

Just came across this in Wikipedia:

"A new Eagles album - their first new studio album since 1979 - expected to be titled The Long Road to Eden, has been reportedly in production for several years. In an August 2006 interview, Joe Walsh predicted a 2007 release. In a private concert held at the end of January 2007, Don Henley reported that the album would be released "in 60 to 90 days, if we don't kill each other first." "

Congratulations goes to Ms. Theresa Licaros for winning the Bb. Pilipinas- Universe Crown last night at Araneta. Theresa was a summa cum laude grad from UP Diliman batch 2005, delivered the graduation speech for her whole batch, and is currently a 2nd year law student in Diliman.

Looks like the UP Maroons might have an excellent choice for their opening ceremonies muse for season 70* ;D

I had wanted to invest in equities since early last year, when the outlook for a bull run was good. Unfortunately I was pretty cash-strapped then. I had also been monitoring the price of a stock for over a year. When I first noticed it and got a feeling about, share price was P0.023. Right then and there, if only I had the money, I wanted to buy 5 million shares. The share price eventually peaked at P0.0575. I could have more than doubled my investment in just a year. :(

By the time I came into some money early this year, the bull run was at its peak. But I thought it still had a good two to three months in it before the market would consolidate. I was wrong.

You could have....but not. Short term market timing is hard. But if you have a proven system or better yet an insider information, why not. ;D

If you have an option to invest in the foreign market , get into resource-energy stocks. (20% return for us last year. 17% in real terms. ;D).

Gold and silver are also compelling options. Baka sumipa uli hanggang US$800/oz ang gold tulad last year. I could have earned close to US$300 if I bought a single Gold Coin a year earlier. Market timing. Another upward movement is a great possibility.

China is a bubble. The worst is yet to come.

People are waiting for the Second Great Depression ushered by a crash in either China or in the US (collapse of the asset bubble especially Real Estate). Lot's of oppostunities to be made during any great crash, that is, if we still have the financial resources after the wipeout.

Wala pa ring repeat winner ang Champion's League since 1989-1990 of AC Milan. Barca was beaten by Liverpool 2-2 aggregate via the away goals that they scored back in the first leg. Chelsea made a good recovery in London after falling 1-0 against Porto and winning it 2-1 thanks to Michael Ballack's 79th minute strike. Valencia is also through to the last eight by winning 2-2 aggregate via away goals din against Inter Milan while Roma blasted Lyon, 2-0 to join in the quarterfinal round.

I recall a passage from "The Day the Bubble Burst,"* a Reader's Digest Book Section feature in 1979 about the 1920s stock market crash. IIRC, it narrated how Joseph Kennedy, patriarch of the Kennedy Clan stayed away from the superheating stock market then because everybody was getting into it. And the one significant point when he decided to stay away was when his shoeshine boy gave him market tips and told him that the market is going skyhigh. He walked away from the market because, and I quote: "A market that could be predicted by a bootblack was no market for Joseph Kennedy."* :(

In my case, it was a matter of making the wrong choice or was not in it at the right time. I took a hit on the Cebu Holdings IPO, unable to get Benpres at its IPO and did not get into it enough when Ayala Corp gave out 50% and 40% stock dividends in consecutive years, and kept growing. Ang sama pa doon, ang kasama kong strat plan analyst sa office knew then of the impending stock div plan and I knew about it too late, after the declaration of stock divs, to have planned for and make a significant purchase.* :P

All I know is you lose when you unload your investments at this point. The rule of thumb is "buy low, sell high" - which means you shouldn't sell while prices are dropping. I don't know how long the current situation will last, but maybe it's best to hold steady first (as long as you're playing the market with money you can afford to do without for the time being).

An equally, if not more risky proposition is when you unload your investments when stock prices are falling and buy back when stock prices go lower still. You still win.

Kaya lang, another rule of thumb comes to the fore: risk only your free/surplus funds. Huwag mo ipusta yung ipang-hahapag-kainan mo. 8)

Correct ka diyan, gfy. Huwag magpapadala sa Market Mania. Sayang. That time people were applauding the New Economy that defied any good financial sense. P/E ratios of those kind were considered normal...tsk tsk....

Now another asset bubble just popped, Real Estate. End of the Real Estate ATM machine in America. A lot of subprime lenders have closed shop.

MonL,

I tried to short the US Dollar 2 years ago when I thought the downward trend will continue. . Damn, it strengthened when I opened my position.. hehe... When I closed my position to limit he loss, bumagsak naman ang US Dollar.... hehehe... that ended by attempt to dip my fingers in the forex market. I have no system nor investing rules to start with. That was foolish of me to say the least. Actually it was an idiotic attempt caused by boredom. ;D

Pacquiao: Ď70% preparedí for April bout with Mexican

By Aquiles Zonio
Mindanao Bureau
Last updated 05:32pm (Mla time) 03/11/2007

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Manny Pacquiao, the World Boxing Council Super Featherweight champion said he was 70 percent prepared for his April 14 bout with undefeated Mexican slugger Jorge Solis.

Pacquiao said he has been training hard for about three weeks now at the Rey Golingan's ABAP Gym here.

Pacquiao decided to spend the first half of his training here before leaving for Los Angeles on March 17 to train at coach Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym.

The Filipino ring icon described Solis as a tough fighter and said he was preparing hard for his upcoming fight.

"Hindi ko minamaliit ang kakayahan ni Solis kaya nga todo ang ensayo ko kasi mahirap nang matsambahan. Wala rin itong talo kaya sa tingin matibay at malakas," he said in a phone interview. [Iím not underestimating Solisí capabilities. That is why Iím training to the hilt because it would be difficult to leave things to chance. He does not have losses yet so I think heís tough and strong.]

Pacquiao refused to give a prediction on what would happen during his fight with Solis. "Hindi ko pa masabi kung maknock-out ko siya. Pero pagsisikapan ko alang-alang sa bayan at mga kapwa ko Pilipino," he said. [I canít say if I could knock him out. But Iím working hard to do that for my country and for my fellow Filipinos.]

Rey Golingan, Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (Aabap) chair here, described Pacquiao as sharp and focused on his training.

Golingan said Pacquiao had already scaled down to 137 pounds, just seven pounds over the 130 pounds Super Featherweight limit.

"I don't think Manny still needs the guidance of coach Freddie Roach. He's doing well even on his own with the help of his Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez," Golingan said.

Golingan was confident Pacquiao would be able to hurdle the hump posed by another Mexican boxer.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao expressed confidence his rigid training would not hamper his plan to join the congressional race here.

Instead, he said, it would give him extra energy and stamina to withstand the rigors of a political campaign.

He said as of now he was spending his free time going around the city and the entire first district meeting people.

Last month, Pacman launched the "People's Champ Movement" which would give free accident insurance to all its members.

According to him, PCM has about 200,000 members.

He said there was no membership fee being collected and everybody was welcome to join.

He disclosed PCM would continue with or without elections.

"Ito'y isang paraan ng aking pagtulong sa aking mga kababayan. Hindi lang ito pang-eleksyon. May election o wala magpapatuloy itong movement para tulungan ang mga mahihirap nating kababayan," he said. [This is one way to help fellow Filipinos. This is not for the election period only. With or without the elections, this movement would continue to help the poor.]

Immediately after his encounter with Solis, Pacman said, he would return to General Santos to campaign.

He said his lawyer Franklin Gacal Jr. would be the one to file his certificate of candidacy come March 29.

"Mag-execute lang ako ng special power of attorney na magbibigay pahintulot sa aking abugado na si Atty. Jeng Gacal upang i-file ang aking certificate of candidacy sa city Comelec office," Pacquiao said. [I will execute a special power of attorney to authorize my lawyer, Atty. Jeng Gacal, to file my certificate of candidacy here at the city Comelec office.]

Can I just pray na matalo siya sa parehong laban niya. I believe this is a way to humble him. The rampage has gotten into his head. The honor being given by the administration biggies has gotten into him as well. Look at Ronnie Alcano, He won both 8-ball and 9-ball World championships in a "year" and nary an parade or what-not for him.

He might go the way of Iron Mike. Nakakasawa man pakinggan but this damn line, para makatulong sa mga kababayan natin, is not the answer to the question, Why are you running? Look at Gawad Kalinga, is Tony Meloto or Frank Padilla running for any position? NO. Are they helping people nationwide? YES

I have to agree with chocoks kasi nakakasawa man din pakinggan, yan ang laging sagot ni Pacquiao na ang pagtakbo niya sa election na "ito ang tanging paraan para mas makatulong ako sa taong bayan". It's a damn, pathetic line.

Syracuse being left out of the NCAA main tournament was definitely big news, as ever since Hakim Warrick left the team a few years ago, they haven't been able to find their identity. For the #1 seeds, each team has question marks, and we'll see who'll be eliminated early. I can see Kansas and Ohio State being upset by somebody due to their young and inexperienced players, and North Carolina and Florida reaching the Elite Eight, at the very least.

Ako naman Kansas lang ako may duda since I haven't seen this team so I don't know what they're capable of doing in the tournament. Plus, they were the known seeded chokers in the tournament. They have been eliminated I think in the past 2-3 years that they joined the tournament and they are seeded 3 or 4 though.

Wala pa namang nalalaman na "banned for life" ang NHL. The article cites other famous examples of players gone wild, including Marty McSorley (for his assault on Donald Brashear) and Todd Bertuzzi (who basically ended Steve Moore's career), who also got long suspensions but no bans, although McSorley never played in the NHL again after he was suspended.

a few weeks back, i saw who appeared to be joyce of the amazing race's uchenna and joyce at the sofitel philippine plaza. this was before the amazing all-stars telecast but i knew that they would be part of TAR all-stars lineup. i looked around hoping to catch a glimpse of other teams (i was looking for the blondes, in particular) but there were none. so maybe it wasn't really joyce, and maybe TAR all-stars didn't really drop by pinas. but she sure looked like joyce.

i hated them during the last amazing race, but somehow i find myself rooting for the blondes this time.

My dad said the real Ateneo-La Salle-type rivalry in the NHL was between the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers, but honestly the animosity between all the old-school teams is all the same to me. Iba talaga yung attitude ng players dati - pati off the ice magkaaway pa rin.

Ewan ko if I make sense but I am appalled at how politicos have been showing how stupid Filipinos are.

Manny Pacquiao will be running as a party list representative and he is not be going against Rep. Darlene as he *previously planned.

Also, the guy who got the smackdown was a cretin and he deserved what he got. I must admit that I said "buti nga sa iyo!" or something like that when the queen got him. Kahit sa sine, heckler pa rin ;D

Sufjan Stevens is God.

John Wayne Gacy, Jr.
from the album Illinoise

His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's t-shirts
When the swingset hit his head
The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there
Find the few living things, rotting fast, in their sleep
Oh, the dead

Twenty-seven people
Even more, they were boys
With their cars, summer jobs
Oh my God

Are you one of them?

He dressed up like a clown for them
With his face paint white and red
And on his best behavior
In a dark room on the bed
He kissed them all
He'd kill ten thousand people
With a slight of his hand
Running far, running fast to the dead
He took off all their clothes for them
He put a cloth on their lips
Quiet hands, quiet kiss on the mouth

And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floor boards
For the secrets I have hid

From NHL.com:

Maple Leafs' forward Darcy Tucker's all-around ability helped land him a new four-year contract with the team.
When teammate Tomas Kaberle was being carried off on a stretcher after being hit from behind by New Jersey Devils forward Cam Janssen, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Darcy Tucker raced out of the dressing room to challenge and berate Janssen for what he deemed was a cheap shot.

Tucker wasnít playing in that game at New Jersey, March 2. Instead he was riding a bike in the dressing room, still recovering from a broken foot. But there he was, coming to the aid of a teammate after watching the hit on the dressing room television.

I have this thing for (or against) French hip-hop. The way French rolls from one's tongue (OK, no pun intended) doesn't exactly suit the "hard-and-fast, grim-and-determined" voice that I usually associate with rap. Takot lumaban yung bata. Maaari sigurong dala na rin ng consecutive losses niya before entering this fight. Sayang naman. Mukhang one hit wonder itong batang ito.

mahina si solis. masyado syang overhyped. 250 punches per round daw ibibigay nya ke pacquioa, eh total punches na tinama nya kay pacquiao 70+ lang over 8 rounds.* ??? he was even knocked down by normal punches. pacquiao didnt even give him those signature power punches.

viloria no longer have his agreesiveness and mental toughness in the game. he came into the fight na parang wala lang. unlike before, pagkatuntung parang sa ring nakakatakot na yong mata nya.

yungha
04-15-2007, 09:24 PM
viloria was quoted as saying, "i did enough to win the fight." yan ang problema ni viloria, he aims only to do just enough to win the fight. when you try to do "just enough to win the fight," chances are you'll lose. additional cases in point - z gorres and gerry penalosa. they should take lessons in courage from great champions like erik morales and manny who, when they fight, wear their heart on their sleeve and go all out every single second.

sayang talaga - with his power and skill, viloria could easily dominate the 108-pound division. pero kung wala kang puso, wala rin.

speaking of walang puso - ulises solis was in his brother jorge's corner and he kept telling his brother things like you have no heart! you fight like a coward! think of your family - fight with honor. stuff like that. jorge replied with something like i can't see the punches. he hits me too hard. uhmmm, ok.

at the post-fight presscon, though, jorge tried to salvage some of his manhood by declaring that my wife hits me harder than manny pacquiao. judging by what jorge solis showed tonight, maybe we would have all been better off watching manny fight solis' wife instead.

Kid Cubao
04-16-2007, 05:45 AM
boxing teaches you to confront your worst fears, one of which is the fear of pain. the other is the fear of being exposed.

right from the opening bell, one can tell that solis was overly wary in confronting the pacman mystique from the way his feet were nervously bouncing off the mat. also, his right hand kept bobbing up lke it was anticipating the feared pacquaio left straight. in contrast, manny probed his opponent by intentionally leaving himself open from time to time so he can gauge his punching power and read his reaction to his counter-punches. after the first round i realized that manny is fighting a scared opponent. there's no hiding it: manny can take his hardest licks, jorge cannot. that he was exposed for his shortcomings made his situation even worse.*

ang nakakainis lang ay tinuturuan pa ng pandaraya si jorge solis ng kanyang mga cornermen. after the 3rd round, he was instructed to go after manny's right hip. hay, kung alam nyo lang kung gano kasakit tamaan ng direct hit sa hip socket... bush league talaga. that's why one of the first things you learn in muay thai is how to roll instinctively in order to absorb the impact of such blows to the hip area.

Two things:

1) For most of the fight, Channel 7 was even ahead of Solar Sports (not the pay-per-view, though, as we only got cable installed the day before).

2) I had mixed emotions every time Michael Buffer would announce "Congressional candidate, Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao!". It was all so surreal. I'm sure he was also tempted to add, "Only in the Philippines, bud, only in the Philippines."

It's also sad that just after the suspect was revealed to be "Asian-looking", people over the internet were hinting at an Al-Qaeda job. The neo-cons, really.

I read the gunman's plays on AOL this afternoon, and it seemed as if he was just another guy begging for help -- and he wasn't given the help he needed.

What I'm afraid of, now, is a possible backlash against people of Asian descent. A close friend's cousin got her MA from Virginia Tech; former Ateneo DISCS chair Dr. Vergara also went there for his doctorate. While we're fortunate not to have lost any kababayans in the shooting, this has to serve as a wake-up call for everyone. It's creepy enough that this happened almost 8 years to the day after Columbine; it's even creepier to know that after all those years, it's too easy to get hold of guns in the U.S.

madali lang solution diyan. its not 100% fool-proof, but it should lessen the incidence of loony gun wielders. since the US constitution has the right to bear arms and since the NRA alwayssays that its the person and not the gun that kills then the common-sense solution is for the gun buyer to present a certified proof or receipt from a licensed psychiatrist that they are not mentally ill or unstable and a police report.
anyone who has commonsense would not want someone holding a gun who is unstable. Would you?* ;D
